    Born in 1931. All my brothers and sisters passed away. Its like living my life all over again. We had our own Sunday afternoon orchestra in the front room. So much talent trying to reach this standard, Thanks for the Memories.

    I was conceived in May of 1934 and, for reasons unknown, seem to still eerily exist only in that era.
    Thanks so much pax41 for sharing sounds of that bygone age.

    Pax41, thanks for the great selection of photos as well! Be sure and buy Vocal Refrain by Annette Hanshaw. It is just out. I love Japanese Sandman! Have you heard it? One of Annette's best. Wonderful notes by Chris Ellis. BTW it is back ordered in the USA and European suppliers(UK) are your best source for this rare new CD. Please keep making these videos.. Friday is Annette's birthday, on October 18th 1901. I will always keep your videos in my heart...Love, Annette, "That's All."

    I enjoyed the entire set and got a particular chuckle out of the recording date of the Lombardo piece. I've always been fond of the Lombardo brothers' work but I was a bit too young to appreciate that piece since on the day it was recorded I was seven days old. As always, thanks for all, pax41 and keep 'em coming.

    This was so beautiful to listen to. I have plenty of music from the forties, but wondered why I didn't have anything from this era or before; it is so hauntingly moody and dreamlike. Thank you for sharing; I will be adding this music to my collection.

    Sweet maybe, but a lot of the numbers are quite hot too. I particularly like 'There's a Time and Place' and 'Paper Moon'. Carroll Gibbons also waxed the former with Al Bowlly using almost exactly the same arrangement. The hottest Gibby I know and one of my favourite records by him. Funny how a lot of singers try to sound like Rudy Vallee though. Hanshaw goes without saying of course, wonderful as always. Sweet, but superb jazzy timing.

    Herb Gordon is known mostly for his brass-less "Whispering Orchestra" of the late 20s, but here he has a fully instrumented hotel-style band (on its only record date). Rose Blane later sang with Joe Haymes, then with Abe Lyman, whom she married.

  • @RatPfink66
    @RatPfink66 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think that's Dick Robertson on cut 3. That said, I don't know who Tom Brown was (and I don't recognize the voice - does anybody?).
    Billy Artz was MD of the Henry George cigar program over CBS but IIRC, this was listed as a Lou Gold date somewhere.

    Annette Hanshaw at 22:03. Sorry, I don't have time to do the others now. However, I have to say that she sounds very different on this recording. I wonder how that could be.

    • @pax41
      @pax41  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Quabledistocficklepo Sounds very much like her to me

    • @QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO
      @QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +pax41 ,
      I never doubted that the singer was Miss Henshaw, but she just doesn't sound the same here as on my recordings. Why that should be, I can't say, but maybe someone has tinkered around with sound editing equipment in order to make the sound more "perfect." What's the difference? Well, to me, the best Henshaw was in her earlier days, but this woman sounds older. She just doesn't sound as sweet and charming

    • @pax41
      @pax41  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO This is exactly how it transferred from the original 78 record. You do have to adjust the settings if this is being played back on a modern turntable. It is adding in the RIAA curve which would not be done for recordings of this period. The end result will be the bass too heavy and the highs greatly reduced.

    • @pax41
      @pax41  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO This is also a later recording by her as you pointed out.

    A bit irritating when the music is in mono, but the record scratch is in stereo! You should make a mono-mix of both the channels from the pickup. Otherwise good!
