My grand father was in love with this music and he showed it to me when I was a little child. He was borned in 1915 and he always told me stories about this era. He died in 2015 at 100 years old. I miss you, my dear Tata! I'll see you again, later or sooner.

Reading the comments, the common theme is "why do I like this music so much". I think it's due to the simplicity of it. It was also written during a time when the concerns of the day weren't as grave as they are today.

    • @Toe_Merchant

The Great Depression and looming World War weren't grave concerns? It's idealized nostalgia by people who never actually lived in the period, or have much knowledge of it.

    WHY DO WE ALL LOVE
    *THIS* KIND OF MUSIC???
    a) Reincarnation
    b) Time-Travellers
    c) distinguished gusto
    as a Musician and Singer
    I would say:
    *passion to learn your instrument
    *strive for perfection
    *social engagement to harmonize
    THESE ARE ALL
    very old
    nearly forgotten virtues
    in an ellbow-world...
and we know about history, too...
    it is
the pulse of every artist's heart-beat
    who puts his personal devotion
    into every song
    we can hear until today
and as monstrous this world may be
there will always be some creatives
who can sooth & safe our souls
    THANK YOU, BOB
    FOR SHARING YOUR TREASURES 💞
    TO ME THIS IS THERAPY
    IN A MAD & CRAZY WORLD 🌍

I think the reason old guys like me, 77, like this material is that is has form, words one can understand and some pop. Younger kids can like this too as seen below because music with wit, pop, and meaning or just jive can out do the angst of today's sludge..

Yeah it all pretty much is. It's too machine processed. Auto-tune, digital drum beats, annoying sound effects and sampled loops. People trying to cash in on the latest catch phrases or whatever current event happens to be "in" at the time. This music has soul and it took talent to play and you got it all in one take.

There's just something nice 'bout this era of music to me. It reminds of simpler, less PC times. It wasn't perfect by any means, but we weren't all so conserned with insulting someone that we were afraid to say anything....But this is just the remanises(?) of a(soon to be) 45 year-old with too much time on his hands....

This is the music of probably the greatest generation that ever lived. Hard up-bringing, hard working, hard living conditions. But these same people had the best morals, and most generous of spirit. No complaining how bad things are. They just got on with it. Most would never had a record player, nor time to listen to it, nor could afford the music nor player. Sadly almost all have gone. Now it is the "Me" generation who have never truly suffered. Unfortunately I'm included in the latter group.

    • @bobbywimsy6741
      @bobbywimsy6741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

flyingscrapyard Agreed. Sacrifice, self less work and life. Morals. Standards. Virtues. Focus on self is a disaster in any age. We have been and perhaps are still looking living thru a national nervous breakdown and moral-spiritual holocaust. We must begin anew at a basic level, vocabulary. That is why I am, at 67, returning to college to become a teacher.

I'll tell you what it is: you and I are two peas in a pod in that you have an appreciation for good musicianship, good arranging, with a healthy dose of nostalgia thrown in. That's not something everyone can say. So celebrate your/our taste in music, Sister! :)

I have a project in school that I chose to do on the progression of music styles, and what was once popular, and what is now popular. If anyone could sum up the styles/genres that were popular in the 30's I would appreciate it!

Johnny Morris, leading the vocals for Paul Specht, sounds unusually uncomfortable and tentative in Hitting The Ceiling.

I have the Ballew and his vocal seems to have the same lack of urgency that the Morris vocal has. Maybe it's just the song. By the way it's the same exact arrangement as the Specht

This is drinking music, it is the music which people drank and danced to in the 1920s and 1930s in the speakeasies. Do you also find it easier to really get your mind and spirit into this music and into this era when you drink? Drinking does get people more relaxed and in the mood to dance in general. While this music is playing, it gets you into the mood for dancing to it and pretending it's the 1920s and 1930s, if you have a passion for this music and era. But, it's easier to do that when you're home and not out where you'll have modern distractions all around you, unless you are at some specially themed 1920s and 1930s bar or party.

Beautiful music. Today's music is rubbish as it only speaks about sexual harassment and being better than others. This music speaks a story. Not a regular story but a story no man can speak but only sing. This music brings power. Power of love, friendship, careness, and fine loyalty no other music generation can bring, We feel the music. We experience it. We live it. I had a choice. "To live as a average or speak impossibility. I chose the impossible."
