Eagerly awaiting those stainless bolsters. I've had a ton of trouble shaping stainless bolsters and keeping the softer scale material level with the steel.
@@gean.knives I rough profile the bolsters finish and polish the front end. Then hammer peen in place. Then add oversize scales and then grind and polish the bolsters and scales at the same time. Not sure how everyone else does it but this process works for me
@@DIYeasycrafts Thanks for sharing your process. I had issues with keeping the softer scales from developing low spots at the junction, and the bolsters kept developing facets instead of rounding off nicely. I discovered this morning that 1x72 scalloped belts will actually work great for blending the facets in steel bolsters and don't seem to grind away the wood too fast.
great vid!! question I've made my own bevel plate, im using a 2x42 grinder. its ok but I've made a lot of adjustments. on my bevels one side I different from the other. is the bevel plate not square to the platten? or could the knife be bent some. with a straight edge across the plate and platten it looks ok. maybe a little off but not bad? any ideas? thanks doc
Where does one get hold of a line scriber? I know how to use drill bit for job, I must say your one looks pretty handy, really enjoy your videos, you are a natural teacher, Cheers from Mike, South Waikato New Zealand
It depends on thickness of blade and how wide you want the bevel to be. I usually bevel a scrap pc of wood first then adjust to get width Im looking for before beveling the blade
I think you should delete this channel and make a new one and change thumbnail style in order to make bigger channel, its just boring yellow letters that keep us from clicking on the video. Just try to picture the most important thing in the video and make filters or something, and put emojis in thumbnail they are trend today
I like that it's a really neat way to grind and it's a new take on things!
thank you

Already started working on them. Rough shaped, dove tails done and they are hammer peened in place. Next up will be the scales
@@DIYeasycrafts So you do rough shaping before attaching scales? Does that make it easier to keep things level?

Where can I find the magnet you are using to hold the knife blade thanks for posting
You can buy them at any welding supply store, they are called magnetic welding squares
I got mine from amazon. Search for handled magnet
Thanks I have the welding one just liked the handle on the one shown
How thick of steel to you use? 1/4?
Usually 3/16 for blades and 1/4 for bolsters
