Concerning the inner pinch ring of the top and bottom. I am guessing that a little household bleach mixed with water, sloshed around the inside of the canteen. Will take care of any bacteria.
About the rings in the canteen, I usually just boil water in it to clean it

I know the criticism just sounded completely made up lol.
In case you didn't know, All the modern Canteen bottles are that way. I hate the single handle cup. The clip disengage itself by the weight of the food and all the content falls into the fire. I replaced it by a 800ml butterfly handles cup. If your turn the stove upside down, the Trangia and its numerous clones, they become more efficient.
You can bend the clips a little so the lock is more snug. But still...
While serving the military, the canteen cup went from the single handle (like the Pathfinder cup) to the batwing dual wire bale handle. Initially they were riveted, later spot welded. Watch a bunch of wire handles fall off when the welds gave way. The military is the toughest field testers!
Best camping gear I own, I’ve had this set since it first came out. Never had issues with cleaning any of it, the stove and cup work great with a fancy feast stove or trangia. Best part is that I have used it all right in the campfire with no issues.
Ive used the gen1, for years never had any issues with it just as long as you're using water only inside the canteen it'll be fine also you can buy bottle brushes that work well
I bought a blem canteen kit years ago, only thing wrong was where the seam is welded, about an inch of weld didn't get buffed off. I don't really use the canteen but I love the cup.
While the d-rings help. The slot high and under the horizontal handle of the cup was designed to accommodate the original US Military mess kit butter knife. Thus, increasing burn safety.
I really like the set. I bought one 6 months ago and havnt had a problem.

Btw, you were probably having trouble with the cooking because the stove wasnt getting enough oxygen. Try that again with an alcohol stove that is shorter and narrower and you will probably have a lot better results.
Almost any other heat source would have been better. You chose to use Chaffing gel which is designed for warming not cooking.
Trangia burner works best for the stove! I have the older model of the canteen cup system and the round cup version. He makes good stuff that is very durable and practical as well.😊
The Pathfinder school also sells an alcohol stove that goes with that it'll it'll heat the water up faster than that can fuel will, keep up the videos I have that same set and I love it.

That they’ve made the caps compatible solves one of my peeves. The older bottle caps are not compatible with the canteens. The original caps for the bottles did not have the logo embossed on the cap, the canteens did. I bought the canteen and 32 oz bottle sets together and found the caps were not compatible. Then bought one the first 64 oz bottle sets which had same size cap (without the logo) as the smaller bottle. Solved that by ordering replacement caps , I thought that losing/misplacing the caps may be a possibility and I live by ‘better to have and not need than to need and not have’… So I bought 3 each as extras!😂😂

Fyi, old school rule to keep your canteen clean, don't ever put anything in it besides water, couple drops of soap and rinse well, use the cup for mixing
I've got the smaller Pathfinder cookset (that you showed) and have used a Trangia stove under it, as well as using as a twig stove. Pretty useless set up, and I have switched to a butane stove and windshield.
Ethonal gel can is meant to keep food warm. A small stick fire would've been cool to manage. I like your dog. Do you watch outdoor boys on YT? That's kinda how I found your channel. Get well CB.
I wanted to see if it’s easy to pour boiling water with the canteen. It comes with the handle, right? Many military rations and back packing foods need water only to eat. The canteen needs to be easy to handle with hot water in it.
SL's observation about mould put me off getting the canteen set. Instead I got a Pathfinder bottle set. Either way, Pathfinder do make some awesome gear.
I use the Gearland canteen and cook system. Its $30 on Amazon.
The easiest way to clean the inside of a canteen is to dump a handful of pea-gravel with some water into it and slosh it around. Then rinse it out with clean water then dry it in the fire to kill off any bacteria. At home, I soak it overnight in bleach water and then rinse it with tap water.
Just got mine this morning buT I have found my transgia is a better option than a fire it JUSt smoked and did not breath
There are multiple different ways to clean your canteen out I've had my Pathfinder canteen for years never had a problem with anything getting in that little same.
If you actually think you've put something in there that you need to clean out you can boil it in a larger pot? You can put water in it and boil it over a fire in the canteen itself? Or you can use water purification tablets? I personally put quart of water and two purifying tablets and shake it around for a few minutes and let it purify the inside i don't generally drink it because of the taste but?
My canteen stove I altered it between the four knobs on top it has an odd diamond-shaped hole in the center but it boils water with solid fuel tablets gel fuel or alcohol stove.
And I also carry a zebra long-handled spoon 🥄 because it's impossible to lose in the canteen cup.
WWII Canteens had that pinch too. Boil it!
I think it is possible to Burn bacteria and mold with camp fire when you boil water over coals.
I rather have a bottle that fits a water filter that light weight. Smart water bottle. The canteen cook set is a good system.
Wonder if it boils faster with a normal fire?
Boil watter add egg bring to simmer 3 mins , for soft boild egg . Hard boild 5 mins.put egg in egg cup take knive cut top of egg dont brake shell by tapping!😁

Those steno heat containers take way too long. They are for warming food, not cooking. I mistakenly bought a case of them and was very disappointed in them. Live and learn!😮😊
Mold and bacteria can be found floating in the air, and certainly in water. Even if you boil water, colonies of mold and bacteria will grow in it after it cools.
So how to kill the bacteria

Spin the egg. Hard-boiled egg will spin easily, raw egg will not spin.
So if you only had to choose between one of them, and whichever one you choose, you cannot go back to the other one for ever so for the rest of your life if you can’t go back to the other one, so if you were gonna use one of these in your daily cooking For the rest of your life, which one would you use and a series about this cause this is how I boil my water. It’s a Coleman 18 ounce boiling pot, kind of a thing, tall and narrow and it’s all I use for the last almost 10 years I haven’t used anything else I’m looking to replace it so if you only had to choose one, which one would you choose between the two that you using now which one would you choose for the rest of your life, in all aspects of camping or cooking on your stove at home which one would you use?
All good gear except for the stoves which are crap !!
Any type of commercial sanitizing tablet sold for restaurant use in the sanitizing compartment of a commercial 3-compartment sink will kill 100% of any bacterial that might linger in the shallow groove inside the canteen that is formed when manufacturing the external lip that rings the canteen. Unscented household bleach will accomplish the same end goal. A simple adult toothbrush carried while backpacking would allow anyone to scrub out that recessed groove with simple baking powder used as an abrasive.
I have this and every now and then (just for this reason) I just set the canteen itself in my fire and let it get hot as shit and kill the bacteria.
Seams like it would come with the canteen cover.
Even if bacteria grows in the crevice, it will be sterilized if you boil water in it above said crevice.

Bacteria can't get gunked up in the seam when you're using it to boil anyway.
I have no experience with this, but since the bottle is made of metal, wouldn't it be enough to pour some liquid alcohol into it and light it?
I think the bacteria would burn out.
Alternatively, you could boil plain water in the bottle or heat the empty to above 100°C.

The sets are pretty decent, but the stoves not so. Pretty inefficient. Blocks lots of heat. Do not char in waterbottles, only as a really last option. You will not be the first one that can throw away the bottle, bad taste can stay after cleaning.
If the measurements aren’t stamped in, they don’t last.

I’m gonna go this way this seem on the inside that everybody talks about like you’re gonna get some sort of rare bacterial disease from it. Listen we’re camping if that’s a concern boil it you know just empty out the container so there’s no water in it. heat the container up until it’s like 125° or something, leave it at that status for 10 or 15 minutes and you’re probably gonna be good for six months do that twice a year we eat grubs and worms camp on the ground with ticks and fleas and other types of rodents and insects. People are just trying to blow something out of proportion take something greatand turn it into a negative why do you feed into that? The only downside your video is you’re talking nonsense about this topic
