I got invited by a subscriber of the channel here in Koggala, Sri Lanka. We had super delicious Sri Lankan food and I was able to get to know their lovely family. Experiences like this are really memorable for me here in Sri Lanka, so I am super thankful for that.

You continue to inspire me Ken!!!! Sri Lanka was not even on my list to visit but now it IS!! Kob Khun Krub! I will definitely visit this homestay also. I continue to LOVE your raw footage showing your authentic emotions and thoughts. This particular episode has ignighted my desire to have a FARMSTAY in ISAAN. I am currently in the USA but returning to Phuket next week as I was discouraged on our farm in Buriram. I think after staying in Phuket for a year, I may return to our Farm in Buriram and pursue the dream of an authentic Isaan Farmstay. You will always have a standing invitation to it as YOU have entertained and broadened my horizons ! TY!!!!

Home cooked food is the best, well said, Ken!! What a great experience staying in this type of homestay with a family where you can see how food is prepared and you even give a helping hand. 👍👏 Guess you have gained a lot of knowledge, right? From watching how a coconut plucker climbed up the tree, how he plucked the fruits and lastly how to remove the coconut husk. Good of you to enquire how to obtain coconut milk. It would be better if she were to demonstrate it. Wooooow...that set of claypots and plates are super beautiful...am loving them.

You will only find this kind of hospitality in places like Sri Lanka/India, etc....most Asian countries.

All the "safety"that he need ....was bowing to the tree, three times ! ( According to Sri Lankan labour safety department )😇😇😇
@@gerardfernon3339 it's a formal way of showing respect ...A cultural thing . It can be religious... like praying God to protect himself whatever the religion he believing in or just showing respect to the nature :)
@@gerardfernon3339 That actually isnt a religious practice. They used to bow as a respect to the tree. He gonna take something out from the tree, so paying the tribute.

@@gerardfernon3339 bringing the hands together like that is a commonly used gesture in south and southeast Asia. It is used in 3 situations.
1) As a greeting - Sri Lankans do it when they say Ayubowan (or Wanakkam in Tamil), Indians do it when they say Namaste, Thais do it when they say Sawadee.
2) As a means of showing respect and gratitude - When you show respect to an elder you bow down and do that gesture. People in rural Sri Lanka do it to pay gratitude to the tools they use for their livelihood. A farmer would pay gratitude to his tools and cattle using that gesture before he starts plowing his field, and in this video the coconut plucker is being grateful to the tree.
3) when praying - Buddhists use it when praying to the Buddha, Hindus use it when praying to their Gods, and I think Christians use it too sometimes.

The young Coconuts and king coconuts are.for the water. The mature Coconuts used for the coconut.milk.,.and the dry coconuts are for the coconut Oil... Presently Srilanka is going through a crisis,but don't let that worry you..
They seem to have cooked for the whole village 😄 a lot of food 👍

you are a niec guy Ken. lots of love from sri lanka. by the way u shd notice once these ccocnuts are opened, we use coconut scrapers to scrape the coconut. then some people extract the coconut milk by squeezing em manually by mixing the scraped coconut with little amnt of water. or else you can use electric juicer to extract the coconut milk ..!

Most travelers like to learn something from research. Why did the coconut water throw away? If he had been allowed to taste the coconut water without throwing it away he would have known something else about the mature coconut. Already he knows the king and young coconut water taste. Great to receive invitation from your subscriber for such a delicious feast. The tree climbing to pluck coconut looks interesting, in Southeast Asia monkeys are also used to pluck coconuts.
Yeah I saw that in Malaysia, monkeys were trained to climb the trees 😲😄

Ken I was just smiling at this video. You have learnt a lot about coconuts now🤣🤣
When you eat with hand, mix one curry with small portion of rice and eat. So you can taste each one. Different flavours. Then you can mix and match and see which combination of curries taste great.
I have often found Sri Lankan Sinhalese cuisine of rice and curry is bit dry. Sri Lankan Tamil cuisine rice and curry more watery/gravy heavy.
It's not taboo to eat with left hand if you are left hand dominant person. Some old people might not like it. But generally Sri Lankans are too cool not to offend guests.
Yeah. I haven't actually heard anyone say "Eat only with the right hand." here.
why is it more or less important to eat with right hand if possible ??
