Best 7 things you can do with this car are 1: fit a larger inter cooler for the supercharger, 2: Split the cooling system, 3: Upgrade the intercooler pump, 4: Fit a 77mm clutched pulley, 5: Fit 550cc injectors, 6: Get a tune (Eurocharged, VRP, German Muscle etc etc), 7: 1 step colder plugs. That will give you the best price to performance ratio - assuming you do the work yourself you'd be into it for about $2,000 to $2,500. I went a little further with short headers and a 92mm throttle body but really the cost of those and having them fitted was not worth the gain. Oh and get the supercharger serviced as well. Great fucking car.
I do understand your point on the SBC. However, when working properly the SBC is still one of the best and most powerful brakes out there. It can produce pressures that no foot or booster could ever produce. I think the only reason they decided to switch back to conventional brakes was the bad long term reliability of the system.
i often feel that the the E55's handling is mis judged, it was never intended to compete to the m5 motorsport inspired and playfull set up, the E55 is a high speed long distance brute, and it sure does handle well, not only on the straight line, but also on roads, it secure and can travel effortlessly on high speed
I daily a c63 amg and it makes me love my commute. I'm simply in love! The AMG brand is all about a huge engine, great exhaust and comfort and luxury with newest tech hand in hand. They are not track monsters but hammers. Thats what amg is all about. If you would prefer less body roll I would suggest kw coilovers V3 or Clubsport. You can adjust them in so many ways there are honestly limitless options. Tune it to your preference. The air suspension consistently has issues and most of the guys here in our Dallas amg group change them out for aftermarket air suspension or coilovers from kw to avoid any hassle. Both have pros and cons but there is a fix. Cooling issue I would go ahead and check out weistec and eurocharged. They really have a great fix for pretty much everything having to so with amgs . I am running a lot of weistec supporting mods including SLS BS Valve Buckets and things like head studs , etc etc. EC tune, ported/polished heads from Dallas Performance, MBH headers, custom exhaust(I desined it and I'm very proud! Even added butterfly baffles on either muffler with remote basically Valvetronic like IPE or AP) and some other small goodies. Havent had any issues in 50k miles has over 70k total on it. Love it love everything about it! If you ever have any questions about these AMGS you let me know. Ive been there and done it. My buddy has a fully built e55 in your same color Renntech , weistec, EC all together in one build. So he can also help if you ever need anything his e55 has 100k miles on it lol. Has over 800rwhp usues as a daily
Back in da day when amg's were the machine and we kinda had respect for it. Its a shame what it's bcome. Your eclass is the most beautiful gen, wont ever gets old
I'm so sick of seeing modded E55 AMGs, this is one of the most significant AMGs ever built yet people buy them and destroy them. Keep them stock and take care of them!
agreed. people do the smaller eurocharged pulley and remap the shit out of them when they actually deserve some better brake pads/fluid, maybe a rust check and 100% cooling mods. it needs heat exchangers and a fat fucking intercooler. gotta work on what its lacking before you pile shit on top of it imo
What is the best way to control or eliminate belt slip/ chirp. I have seen belt wrap kits but don’t see many people use them. Maybe a different belt other than stock?
I have an E55 and what cheeses me off is that MB didn't mirror the console around the gear lever for RHD vehicles making controls hard to see and access.
F&@K that SBC system! Got in a wreck due to that failing on me while coming to a stop! Had a blast with the car but once that happened, had to switch to an Acura. Will I ever get another Mercedes? Hell yea!!
Literally just bought a 2004 e55 done 175kms In nz for 16k nzd. What a car. Want to keep it forever, and put coilovers in soon. Any advice on keeping it reliable other than regular oil filters?
You forgot about the lean out on cylinder 8 requiring some ppl to do a return feed fuel system since Benz has a flawed dead head system and it reads the stock psi and modded guys would be pushing more then instead of giving gas to the fuel rail it would just return it to the fuel pumps thinking that it didn't need any more gas since it can't read that much psi in boost. Car also has a small fuel rail in width. Bad fuel system, really need to data log and have a afr wideband gauge and def get 550cc injectors with anything lower then a 83mm pulley
The only thing I dislike about mine is the steering wheel, luckily there is a beautiful replacement for them! Unfortunately quite pricey but it’ll with it.
Hey, I enjoy your video's as well as your film work. The 4K is great too. I've got a few older cars myself and create content around them. I'm preparing to sell two in order to purchase an E55 later this year. Would you have any recommendations on which model year is best? I'm assuming the 2006 but what's your thoughts. Also, I live near Philadelphia in the USA and prices for a good car are in the $10K range. How does that compare to E55's in your area? -Chris
Why don't you update your air suspension so it handles better and get bigger tires? I'm sure it wouldn't make this car more uncomfortable, it's a very luxurious car already.
I owned an E90 M3 before I bought my E55. For daily use, the E55 blows the M3 away. The power band of the torquey supercharged engine is more usable, and the air ride works much better for daily use on real world roads than the magnetic suspension on the M3 and the like. If my air ride goes out, I'm fixing it, definitely NOT converting it.
I have a w211 E500, I’ve always wanted an M113k E55, but I’m also considering a 2006 CL65. I don’t care for the abc suspension that’s a nightmare waiting to happen. I also like the CLS55 as well. I’m not selling my W211, so it’s basically a toss up between the cls and the CL65. What would u choose?
The E55 was a closer rival to the e60 m5. I definitely prefer the E55 to the e60 m5 for the huge torque difference and the better reliability, especially compared to the SMG gearboxes. The e39 M5 is one of my all time favourite cars but in the used market here the worst e39 beaters are selling for more than pristine low mile e55s. Not worth paying almost twice as much just to get a manual in an older/slower car. A 1 owner 2004 E55 with 30k miles will go for 20k USD but a pristine 2003 e39 M5 with 30k miles will go for almost 40k.
@AMGmeister Great video! Can you install or upgrade sway bars to make it more stable on the corners during normal driving? Also something tells me that Mercedes decided to use automatic transmission to avoid drivers to damage manual ones. Because I think it's hard to control all that torque manually. Plus I guess average buyer is not a racer. Yes, this car was definitely made to a different audience. BTW I'm curious do you plan to replace SBC unit as a preventive measure or just wait? I tried to search if there is a way to say that SBC is going to die soon, but still can't find any good threads about it.
I have one it has: poor gas mileage 15 MPG combined; turbo charger replacement is $4K; transmission fluid change $1K; oil pan isn't accessible. You have to drop the sub frame to get to the oil pan; the shock absorbers are electronic and need replacement about $2K/ each. oil change = $ 400; fuel pump is $ 2K; map sensor is $ 1K; repair of oil leaks on the valve covers and breather cover manifold
Rare amg for chassie dont never sell this keep it. Is for collectors in few decades Now They dont do e55 just e43 and e63 and no chassie of those e55 2003/06
The other thing I hate is that the E55 doesn't come with LSD. A car with that kind of performance should come with LSD from factory. My friend with the E60 M5 can lay down 11's all day doing burnouts. I can only lay down a 1. I must admit I'm jealous about that. I can't follow him around corners either, but boy is it fun running him down on the straight away.
NADA says 3768 for up to 2003 and 4087 for 2004-5-6. Road&Track says 4200 for 2003, Cars-Direct says 3815 for 2003, Car-and-Driver says 3900 for 2003. Autoweek says 3990. I think next time I pass by the gravel store I'll weigh my car on their scale, you can't trust anyone but yourself.

+1.
Had to pay $400 to replace the SBC (taken off a low mileage model). It may last 5-6 years, but man, does it stop the car or what.

The E55 with a manual would have been bad ass!

Most people agree that the 05-06 is the better E55, but some also say that the early E55s had more options & somehow made more power on dynos.
Get an s55 if you want better handling, Ik it sounds crazy but that hydraulic system does insane things to prevent bodyroll
Why don't you update your air suspension so it handles better and get bigger tires? I'm sure it wouldn't make this car more uncomfortable, it's a very luxurious car already.
I already have wider tires. If one of the air struts goes out maybe I'll switch to coils? I still like the adjustable height of the air though.
Can you put on on magnetic ride control? That has adjustable ride height, coils and is adapts more than 100 times a second
No.

im so late but a cl65 amg
Cl65 amg is fantastic. Just grabbed an 06 model, doing coil packs, and intercooler pumps off the gate
Is this cars competition the E39 M5? Yeah not having a manual would make me lean more towards my M5. Mines really heavy as well 4k+ lbs

Do you get Pano roof creak?
Thanks. Yes, I sometimes get the creaking sound but it's not too bad. I can't hear it if I slide the cover over it.

2005 and above
Noo e55 has always the sbc system even a 06 model
Just subbed my amg brother!!
What year is this??
is it raining or snowing in your videos cuz i see white specks

Yeah, but does it haul ass?
These cars are long distance road hogs that can do 100 mph and better on a long stretch of hwy and you hardly notice it.
I hate the skinny, dated steering wheel. I wish it felt a bit more special.

Ralph Alexis not fair to mercedes owners of E55 I guess
Always spins both tires for me. I though this car had some sort of e-diff.
