I think it's basically like a pancake roll that was fried both from the outside and inside, because the butter would (I assume) reach a very high temperature as well, and cook the batter. The butter does drip out after you bite from it once, so what you are left with it kind of like a very buttery and greasy donut/pancake thingy.
Definitely not something you wanna eat more than once a year, but it doesn't look bad at all.

I'm not actually interested in making this, but watched it out of fascination. I had to wonder, while you were making the pancake batter: was the oil IN the batter actually necessary? I'm a cook, not a baker, so I'm not sure what purpose the oil IN the batter actually serves, but it seems like if there is a stick of butter inside, and you're deep fat frying it in oil on the outside, the oil is covered.

Hell, fried ice cream which mexican restaurants like to server is basically this, but frozen and sweeter. EDIT: OH YEAH and let's not forget the king of fair food: funnel cake which is just powdered sugar and deep fried pancake tubes.
