  • Let me show you how to weather a model locomotive. I weathered and Atlas N scale GE Dash 8-40b for my layout. These locomotives often had turbo tires that burned the long hood, so I used that weathering effect. I think it turned out very nicely. Let me show you how I did it.

    All that work and it still looks new. I grew up playing in the rail yard in Council Bluffs, Creston and Corning Iowa and most of the locamotives looked like grime pits! Climbing on them my cloths were covered in grime. Never ever seen any of them cleaned.

    Ron, another fine and informative video. I do have a couple of suggestions that might not work as they might be production headaches. 1. I would be nice to see the effect of the fade coat in relation to the out of the box look. Painting the fade coat on one side, then flipping the model over to see what the original looks might help, but nothing is better than seeing both at the same time. 2. Really just an extension of #1, to see a side by side shot with before and after toasting. I suppose a large still shot would work, but again, production headache maybe. Or you could do a short term lease of a duplicate model from MidwestModler, but inventory issues for this older engine I am sure would be there. Of course, we do have the option of sliding our video bar back and forth to see that effect, or I could use my phone screen for one side and the pc screen for the other.....I may have answered my own question. Keep em coming, Ron, we learn a lot from them.

    Nice job Ron, looks awesome. Thanks for taking the time to explain and show how you did that. I learned a lot about this. I asked a question on another video regarding glue, will “MEK substitute” work the same as MEK? I am having a hard time finding MEK. Thanks again fro sharing. Ken

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Ken. I have just been learning how hard MEK is to get in many places. I have heard other say the substitute will work, but I have not tried it. I intend to get some and compare, but haven't gotten to it yet.

    Hi ya Ron, well, that came out looking great. I wasn’t familiar with the terminology of “a toaster.” Very appropriate. I don’t know whether you have any steam in your roster of locos. But it would be great to see your methods used on a steam engine. Okay, see ya next time.

      When I first started the channel I knew a lot of channels included a list of "gear" in the description. I made this list then, added the sun as I used a lot of natural light then and thought it was funny, and I've just never changed it.

      @@RonsTrainsNThings hehe, it's an interesting addition to a US themed layout. Another thing: how do you guys do planning? I want to make an H0e layout (HO scale trains running on N scale track) loosely based on the Yugoslavian coast, but I don't know where to start.
