To your 2nd question asking why would they want this…government (on the Left & Right) want complete control & power over the population. And it has become a real thorn in their side when The People can rise up against their own tyrannical government & say, “Umm, NO! That ain’t happening!” They want least resistance as possible. That’s why the 1st two Amendments from our Constitution go hand in hand.
W/o freedom of speech we can no longer verbally protest to keep & carry firearms…& w/o the right to firearms the government can just take away legal citizens rights w/ no due process & no threat of backlash towards them. Most American’s do not want violence, obviously…but we citizens need a way to checkmate the government when they over reach. If only the Jewish citizens in Germany & Poland had the means to fight back against a tyrannical & insane dictator then 6 million souls might have been saved during the Holocaust. Hitler’s first move was seizing German citizens guns. There’s a fantastic quote by Mohandas Gandhi where he states,

That should have been a big enough red flag but she was also really cute.. Eventually the brain in my head took over when we started talking about future plans. She wanted to live in one of those stuck up gated neighborhoods where the association is on you about everything. The opposite of my ideal house. I want to be able to work on my car in my driveway without permission. I could give two shits if my neighbor lets his grass go for a while. Anyway, she was all about standing up for the less fortunate as long as that only involved flapping her gums or holding a sign. She couldn’t even fathom the concept that banning guns could hurt those same people that don’t have the means to live in a safe neighborhood. She’d just get mad and refuse to have any rational discussion. So infuriating..

There are A LOT of people who have guns that you wouldn't expect, I'm speaking here of left-leaning liberal types, many who were highly paid professionals. Doctors, lawyers, middle school teachers and staff (of all the various professions I taught to, this was the most heavily represented). They may talk the good talk about guns being bad, but at the end of the day, THEY HAVE THEIRS. And every time a new gun control scheme comes out, they rush to gun shops to buy more. This is why gun-grabbing won't work: so many people have them and are not about to give them up, no matter what. Back in 1982 California had Proposition 15 on the ballot, which would have banned all handguns. It lost in a landslide.
I told him once that here in Oklahoma even lil ol grannies, if they're still well enough to live on their own, they prolly have a gun.

This blows my mind. I'm a Florida native, been here 50+ years, and every single person I know who is not a white liberal woman transplant owns a gun or seven. It's just expected. "Of course he's got a gun. He's a man." Hell, even most of the older Dixie Dog Democrat women still have a .38 in their purse and nighstand.
I just bought two leg holsters so the thieves in my rural neighborhood know that I'm ready for them. 64 yo woman here living by myself no close neighbors,just me and my dogs. Some thieves just broke into my neighbors place and walked away with 10,000$ worth of items. There are two groups of sketchy guys nearby who the cops are supposedly keeping an eye on. Personally I doubt it because I never see them patrolling out here. I'm glad my bully girl is such a good watchdog she is teaching my Golden and my Greyhound how to be good watchdogs too. And not only guns and dogs, we all need to know self defense. Practice it,look around your home,think about what can be used as a weapon and learn to feel comfortable with using force if necessary. Target practice is very important along with gun safety if you choose to have a gun in your home. Have seen too many that have no idea about gun safety
