Make a Serving Board with a Router and Template - Craft Market Series - Episode 2

  • These serving boards are a huge hit with friends and family, so I think they will do very well at the farmer's markets this summer. Once the router template is made, they are quick to batch out and don't use much material, so this is another good craft market project with a lot of profit margin built in. This project is also very easy to adjust for whatever your personal taste or needs may be. The techniques are sound and easily reproduced and have a lot of different wide ranging applications.

    How did you make the template? I'm looking to make something similar but instead of it holding dip on the side, it would be a small round opening with a slit allowing you to slide a wine glass in the round opening to rest.

    Great idea. Would be better if the music wasn't so loud. I'd rather what you are saying.

    Good work process with a template. I did it via CNC machine to make a circle for tea stand coasters. Next time, will definitely try this process.

    Just the demo I was looking for. Made my template yesterday. First time I used a coping saw to cut out, fun....I see a scroll saw in my future. Anyway, thanks

    First time I've seen your channel. Really love the way you comment on what your doing during the build. Just enough instruction. Lots of other sites just speed through the build which can be confusing. Thanks for sharing.

    Lovely video, Nate. Enough instruction, and in a 5 minute capsule - best of both worlds. (Unnecessarily) long videos are so tedious.

    Love it. Can you give the inside measurements of the cut outs?

    • @natecrilly742
      @natecrilly742  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Frank Thornal Sure thing! The circle is 3-3/4" diameter, the rectangle is 4"x13", and the overall pattern is 6"x20". I used a bearing guided bit so the routed recess is the same final size as the cutouts. You could also use a guide bushing and straight bit but would need to increase the size of the cutouts to account for the offset between the bushing and bit. Thanks for watching! I'd love to see it if you decide to make one.

    Hi 2 questions, I have a fixed base router , will that work ? How did you make the template with a perfect circle?

    • @natecrilly742
      @natecrilly742  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matt Baker I would not recommend using a fixed based router for safety reasons, but if you took very shallow passes it could probably be done by slowing plunging the bit into the wood at an angle. Again, I don't think I would do it this way though. The circle was cut with a circle jig on my router, the small jig from Jasper, very useful.

    • @mattbaker3654
      @mattbaker3654 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nate crilly , thank you ! Maybe I could cut a thin board with my jigsaw and glue it to a thick board to give that recess?
