Learn How To grease the gear box in your Ariens Deluxe snowblower. This should be the same on the Ariens Deluxe 24, 28, 30.
Ariens builds an impressive line of snowblowers. It is a brand that has been around for years, and had become known for their quality and craftsmanship.

I have a 2002 Ariens mod. 824. My manual shows several more items to grease or oil on my unit,
so thought I'd pass them along to your viewers.
In addition to greasing
the drive shaft as your video shows, I also lightly oil the chain,
shift linkage, and any other linkage that has a pivot point.
***Be careful*** not to
over-oil or grease items in the drive area. Grease or oil on the
rubber drive wheel will cause it to slip.
I wondered if it would be
reasonable to roll the unit onto the front assembly to simplify the
maintenance process. Your video has answered my doubts on that
subject.

Going to do this sometime this week. I would remove the tires first. If you turn off the gas shutoff and screw the gas cap over a plastic bag, you don’t need to remove the gas.

I was surprised you didn’t pull the wheels and get rid of rust on drive shaft and apply anti-seize and check bushings and bearings for excessive play. I will check your other videos.
Constructive suggestion, edit out repetitive loosening and replacement of bolts on pan cover and concentrate on the important items. Still an excellent video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Would highly recommend removing wheels and hand grease the axle spindle with Oilzum wheel bearing grease, my blower is delux 30 and few years old spindle was dry as bone and no method to grease from factory so your on your own with knowledge how to grease spindle just don't loose the keyway insert or you wont have drive wheels that grab.

5 minutes to take off the transmission plate and 1- 1/2 hours to get it back on.the spring steel clips are all bent at an angle once you take the bolt off the first time. I was able to hammer and bend 3 of the clips in a vice which helped only a little . the forth one I gave up and used a wood screw. this is on a 4 year old deluxe 30 model.

Great video thank you for those parts that I do not want to get solvent on I use simple Green or Dawn works great I just make sure I dry them real well before I put them back on

Pull that cover every year. I would also use brake cleaner on your friction wheel and clean up any extra grease that is going to possibly land on your friction wheel. Your wheel is probably going to need replacement next fall. Check your tire pressure as well. Low tire pressure on one wheel will cause your blower to want to go in the direction of the low tire. You should have covered checking drive and auger belts too. Other wize, good video.

I have a 2017 24" Deluxe model. I greased the auger with pink Synthetic grease. Can I also use that in here too? Should this be done every year?
Yeah, I don’t think it would hurt anything. You should be fine
What kind of grease do you use? Lowes & Home Depot has a ton of different kinds
The owner's manual should state the correct grease to us on your particular year, make and model snowblower.
I have the 921 Series, Deluxe 24. Looks very similar but my book has about 9 different places it wants me to either oil or use grease on. Was hoping you would pinpoint those areas. Not sure what kind of oil to use in the lubrication areas. I have the same grease fitting as you but appears there are other areas that need lubrication.

When I was doing my yearly maintenance yesterday I noticed a small maybe 1/16-1/8" gap on my axle between the wheel bushing and the washer. I see in your video the same gap, I am guessing this is normal? I never noticed it before and it's really bothering me now. I downloaded the parts manual and all the parts are in place, everything seems to be running just fine but now that I've noticed it, it's bothering me.
Mine is fairly new and it’s the same way. You should be fine

Any specific kind of grease?
You can use a quality bearing grease which I purchased at my local parts store.
When you're greasing the inside and cleaning the inside isn't it a good idea to make sure that the friction wheel doesn't have any dirt on it
Yes you should take a look at the friction wheel to see how it looks. These should be serviced every few years depending on how often the snowblower gets used. Have a great day!

opinion on changing the auger gear oil? I guess I should read my manual lol but what do you think? I have an ariens 28 deluxe. also what type of gear oil?
This machine is fairly new. I haven't had to service the auger gear oil yet. I'll have to look into it.

Leave it alone. It’s good for the life of the machine
Don't touch it. It's a sealed unit and it is good for the life of the machine.
will the gas leak out when you turn it over
It may. You can use a fuel transfer pump to empty it.
I'd love to know if you ever had to get your differential working again. only one of my wheels is driven it's like wrestling a bear.

I haven't had an issue with mine
On my snowblower when I put the wheels back on there are two notches where the pin can go through. If you don't have the pin on the inner-most notch then that wheel won't spin at all when you engage. not sure if that's your issue or not but worth a look.

What type of oil should I use?
Denver Drennen Any quality household oil or ideally motorcycle chain oil.
You had the cover off and did do all the maintenance required.

You left out a few steps and forgot to grease the drive gears and slide shaft...Lot more to greasing these than pumping grease in with the gun at the fittings.

you should of used a small socket instead of a deep socket
Couldn't find a small socket at the time, soooo the deep one was the next best thing
well you gotta do with what you have i was wondering why you were using a deep socket in suck a tight space lol
In all honesty my tool box is a black hole of crap..lol Working on putting everything on my garage wall where I can find it.
$150.00 for a retrofit kit when that differential goes and that's with your labor..
