Funny, I just de-gunked this stuff from my chain last weekend. The high amount of wax definitely attracts and holds dirt if you aren’t riding in soaking wet conditions all of the time.

Thanks for watching the video, and for your comment.
I'd love to know exactly what Muc-Off put in their lube products.

I am just a general commuter but I have noticed that my chain, whilst not wearing using muc off, always ended up covered in that black sticky tarry gunk.
It was regularly on sale in the middle aisle in Lidl so that's why I kept buying it.
It was a well known big brand at a very reasonable price.
Soaking and scrubbing in a tub of tractor diesel works quite well but I never got it as clean as that. Although I'm not fussy about having it looking like new. As long as it appears to be doing the job I don't give a flute.
So, no more Muc Off lube for me.
    What brands would you recommend?

Hello. Thanks for watching my video, and for your comment.
In the workshop I've been using the "Weldtite" range of lubes for the last few years. Biodegradable and not too expensive. I get a lot of repeat customers for bike service, and I haven't seen any problems like this on their chains.
I recently tested out some plant-based cleaning products by the Dutch company "Cyclon", and looking forward to trying their plant-based lubes soon.

@@TallPaulsCycles Many thanks for your response. I'll look out for Weldtite and hopefully a less gunky chain. Good luck with your TH-cam adventures. This was a really well done video. I hope to see more like this. 👍

Is this a problem only with Muc Off wet lube? Or do all wet lubes have the same problem? I have been using their dry lube for years and it seems to work just fine.

@@ejacosta174 In 12 years of trade, I’ve only experienced this with MucOff wet lube, and only in the last two or three years.
Makes me wonder if the manufacturer changed the recipe sometime these last few years.

@@TallPaulsCycles thank you for the explanation. I live in SoCal, the land of near total sunshine, so wet lube is not something that I’d normally use.

@@ejacosta174 Yeah, it probably as a connection with the damp atmosphere in the UK. This summer has been unusual, with far more rain than a typical summer.

@@TallPaulsCycles my best friend and cycling mate lives in Leicestershire , this year he had 2 maybe 3 weeks of summer…wasn’t happy. In SoCal we have three, maybe four seasons: earthquake season, fire season, flood season and every few years we have riot season. But when the sun is shining, it is truly nice. 👍
