Muc-Off Wet Lube Fail
มุมมอง 6522 หลายเดือนก่อน
My opinion on some chain lube from one of the biggest brands in the bicycle care industry. The bottom line: Don't use Muc-Off Wet Lube. See the video for why.
The Most Worn Chain?
มุมมอง 175 หลายเดือนก่อน
Someone dropped a bike off with me recently. The gear teeth are sharp, very sharp, and the chain has worn so much, the chain checker is half a link out.
A quick look at: Shimano Modulator V-Brake
มุมมอง 1585 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here's a quick look at some 'vintage' Shimano V-brakes with built-in modulator mechanism. The theory behind these is that the rider can adjust how much force is needed to apply the brakes, with any excess force being used to activate the modulator. A kind of anti-lock brake?
DaisyDog on a quick ride to Liverpool Castle
มุมมอง 32ปีที่แล้ว
Daisy Dog and I went on a short ride out to test her carrier mounted on my Viking hybrid bike. If you're in the area, then Liverpool Castle, the reservoirs and the rest of the Rivington estate are well worth a visit.
I wish your video gets millions of views because you have great content. Try running ads for your channel using some kind of system.
hello, i had the same problems as you with the Muc-off wet and dry products they are sticky i switched to PEATY'S LinkLube All Seasons Starter Pack i am very happy with the PEATY'S products no sticky banana or raspberry syrup inside
Hi. Thanks for your comment. In the next few weeks I’ll be posting a follow-up video about wet weather/all-season chain lubes.
Is this a problem only with Muc Off wet lube? Or do all wet lubes have the same problem? I have been using their dry lube for years and it seems to work just fine.
@@ejacosta174 In 12 years of trade, I’ve only experienced this with MucOff wet lube, and only in the last two or three years. Makes me wonder if the manufacturer changed the recipe sometime these last few years.
@@TallPaulsCycles thank you for the explanation. I live in SoCal, the land of near total sunshine, so wet lube is not something that I’d normally use.
@@ejacosta174 Yeah, it probably as a connection with the damp atmosphere in the UK. This summer has been unusual, with far more rain than a typical summer.
@@TallPaulsCycles my best friend and cycling mate lives in Leicestershire , this year he had 2 maybe 3 weeks of summer…wasn’t happy. In SoCal we have three, maybe four seasons: earthquake season, fire season, flood season and every few years we have riot season. But when the sun is shining, it is truly nice. 👍
Yeah, I use their ceramic dry lube and like it a lot.
Muck off stay well clear it's crap end of. Turps or parking to clean bike chains removes gunk rinse after with soap water rises and lube each link wipe and jobs a gooden. These fancy market cleaners don't catch the muck but catch people's eye and think its the dogs danggly bits when it's not over priced and none efficient tat.😊
this stuff wrecked my chain , never again
I don't know why people continue being dumb enough for all this chainclean/chainlube nonsense products. They are ALL a rip-off. To clean: Kerosene (German: "Petroleum"). To lube: Gear box oil ($5/liter). No drama, no expenses. It comes off with a soft tooth brush, if you have to use a metal brush, you already did something wrong.
Still nothing wrong with a good working set of V's if you aren't needing something for extreme performance conditions.
Yeah, V-type brakes are still very effective, very easy to set up, and very economical to buy service and repair.
That's one very chilled out little dog.
Being the dog of a bike mechanic, she loves a trip out exploring.
I am just a general commuter but I have noticed that my chain, whilst not wearing using muc off, always ended up covered in that black sticky tarry gunk. It was regularly on sale in the middle aisle in Lidl so that's why I kept buying it. It was a well known big brand at a very reasonable price. Soaking and scrubbing in a tub of tractor diesel works quite well but I never got it as clean as that. Although I'm not fussy about having it looking like new. As long as it appears to be doing the job I don't give a flute. So, no more Muc Off lube for me. What brands would you recommend?
Hello. Thanks for watching my video, and for your comment. In the workshop I've been using the "Weldtite" range of lubes for the last few years. Biodegradable and not too expensive. I get a lot of repeat customers for bike service, and I haven't seen any problems like this on their chains. I recently tested out some plant-based cleaning products by the Dutch company "Cyclon", and looking forward to trying their plant-based lubes soon.
@@TallPaulsCycles Many thanks for your response. I'll look out for Weldtite and hopefully a less gunky chain. Good luck with your TH-cam adventures. This was a really well done video. I hope to see more like this. 👍
Funny, I just de-gunked this stuff from my chain last weekend. The high amount of wax definitely attracts and holds dirt if you aren’t riding in soaking wet conditions all of the time.
Thanks for watching the video, and for your comment. I'd love to know exactly what Muc-Off put in their lube products.
