  • Fabricating a custom stainless steel intake for a buddy’s Yamaha VStar 650 to replace the stock dual down draft carbs with a single side draft Harley style carb. Should make it easier for tuning, and hopefully get a few more HP. Will also allow his new Harley Sportster peanut tank to fit on better without needing to modify that to accommodate the air filters.
Stay tuned for an update as we test fit it onto the bike and get the end flanges welded on in place, then mounted onto the bike to get it running again.
    Thanks for watching!

You just made a video making the flanges, where's the rest of the intake build???

Yeah, I guess I did. Was planning to put together a follow up shortly after that one, once I mocked it up on to the bike, to show the finished product and how the bike runs, however still not there yet. My buddy ended up picking up a VStar 1100 this spring and has been riding it since, and still has his 650 just sitting on the back burner. Hopefully we still get there someday, but I am doubtful it will be this year. 👎

Finally got around to finishing off this intake for my buddy about a month ago, and he just recently reassembled the bike (had it completely stripped down) and got it running. Fired right up, and seems to run good, although still need to test ride and likely do some re-jetting. I have his gas tank now (a peanut style tank) which I'll be painting this week and doing a video on. Stay tuned for that, and a video of the bike once it's finished.

I couldn’t tell you the specs… it’s my buddy’s bike and he bought the material… I just did the fab work. It was all stainless steel, likely 304.

Hi. What inside diameter tube you were going to use?

Hey, 99% sure that it was 1.5” OD tubing (thin wall stainless). It’s for my buddy’s bike, and he bought the tubing… just had me fabricate what he needed.
Nearly a year later and he finally just brought the bike back and we finished up the intake. He needs to put the motor back into the frame now, but should definitely have it running this spring.

Time to finish this build now bud, now that you’ve sold the 1100… Gotta get that single carb and sportster tank on and tuned up.
