  • Emi Sakura started wrestling in Japan at the young age of 17 and has won numerous championships in her home country. Not only that, but she has trained over 50 joshi wrestlers including former AEW Women’s Champions,Hikaru Shida and Rhio.
Sakura is a true legend of Japanese wrestling and in 2006 Emi even founded her own promotion, Ice Ribbon, that is still active today.
In 2012 Emi parted ways with the Ice Ribbon promotion. Shortly after she would travel to Thailand where she would meet "Pumi", a long-time wrestling fan and Sakura learned that there were many fans of professional wrestling in Thailand, which led to the two create Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling that year.
All Elite Wrestlings Riho would join Emi in this new promotion and would become the inaugural Super Asia Champion there in 2017 and would hold that title until she left for AEW in 2019.
Riho would have her final match in Gatoh Move with Emi Sakura, but this would not be the last time the two would meet inside the ring since Emi would also start wrestling for AEW that same year.

Nice video! I've always enjoyed her character and work in the ring. She just had a great match against Mercedes that reminded me just how great she is.

Emi is honestly amazing, and its a damn shame aew doesnt utilize her enough. she constantly had great matches on dark, almost every week, but barely ever got tv time and when she did it was to job out. i just dont understand it, she has a ton of talent and charisma, she should be a top woman in the company. not necessarily the champ, but at least in the mix.
