    My god, those double stroke phrasings over triplets or sixteennotes are so useful. Thank you very much for sharing, Steve! :)

    Great great video Steve. I think it's worth pointing out to your listeners that some of those phrases at the end, at the end, are becoming 16th note triplets (like inverted paradiddlediddles or six stroke rolls) ... and others are coming out as 32nd notes, often where there are 3 consecutive doubles.

    Love your lessons Bud. You have helped me start down this road of using triplet accents to become better. Now if I could only speed up my doubles past 100bpm!!!!

    Steve, you consistently teach the hippest stuff on the web! Thank you! What helps me with this exercise is to think of the doubled sixteenths plus the accented sixteenth as a seven stroke roll. Then each accent is simply displacing that seven stroke roll.

    I'm interested in how you use video or audio feedback as a teaching tool? When you listen to the "feedback" and notice a roll isn't clean or..., you do what? Do you isolate that particular sticking at a lower speed? Do you maintain the same speed and "work it" until it cleans out? If so, that usually takes you how much time...that kinda thing.
    I want more of what u did @9:44(take the phrase between snare and hats) then back to just snare. This gets me out of the usual sound source (snare) to hear it musically within a hat groove.

    Hey Steve, thank you for this video. I really appreciate it.
    When I was practicing today I was still asking myself if there are certain tempo areas which lead to a most effective subdivision in terms of thickness of a roll and simply being able to play the roll in this specific chosen subdivision then.
    For example 16th note triplet double stroke rolls work best for me from 90 to 135 Bpm. After that when I wanna play rolls at faster tempos I have to switch to 16th note rolls and they sound not as thick as the triplets before in the first faster tempos after a 135BPM. Tempos from 60 to 115 sound/work best for me by playing 32nd notes...
    I hope you'll get what I mean.
    So, do you have any recommendations where to play what? Or to what Level each subdivision should be pushed to to cover a huge area of tempos with thick rolls?

      @mikepostdrums 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ma Creu You'll have to figure this out yourself. I worked with my teacher on my buzz roll and we found different subdivisions for all sorts of tempos, styles and tastes. Sometimes you're playing 16th triplets, sometimes 16th quintuplets, sometimes 16ths.. depends on alot of things, especially taste and desired density or thickness as you called it.
