Do you need directional arrows? Yes. Why? Because when you pass a cop and that cop partner is some way in front of you also running radar you are going to get a ticket if you don't have those arrows.. the arrows have saved me from this tactic plenty of times

More importantly if a cop on the other side of the highway traveling in the opposite direction is setting off my detector I dont wanna slow down profusely and THIS is why the arrows are useful
@@Tony-uo4ml How would you know this and not slow down? Wouldn't the radar detector still alert you that the signal is ahead? How would you know hes on the other side of the highway?

R7 150 international custom firmware update is available which closes the gap to the R8 and adds many features the R8 just doesn't have. The Auto-City and Adv-Hway modes on the R7 are superior to the Uniden R8 AutoCity implementation. The Auto GPS lockouts have also now been fixed on the R7 150 international. The R7 also now has an RDD stealth mode, which the R8 also doesn't have. Vortex radar has done some reviews on the the updated R7 firmware and there is also a wealth of information on the RDForum about this new R7 150 international update.

Can you change from MPH to KPH on the head unit? I have a Escort that is in MPH and I have to pay for a subscription to allow me access to change this setting.
The difference is the R7 is the better bargain of the two, my R4 does better on Ka than my R8 and R8 does a little better on K band, the volume also seems louder on the R4. For $699 the built quality of the R8 could be much better. What future updates will the R8 have that the R7 won't that will make it even better, hopefully there will be?

@@jmilko917 no, not a significant difference in distance . . . but an improvement, I can say that. Right now, the R7 is at a really good price point, versus what it was when it first came out. The new R8 release has since lowered the price of the R7, which makes the R7 a really good value. So if range is your top priority, you might consider saving the money and going with the R7, because even though it is an older radar detector, it still has great range!

On I-94 here in Michigan, heading past Ann Arbor heading west, we have seen up to a mile to 1.5 miles advance notice on a Ka band.
Can you clip the R7 to your visor? I know you cant mount to windshield in california.
I'm sure there is a way to do it, but we have not tried it. Maybe with a hook and loop type fastener you could?

I bought an R7 about 4 or 5 months ago. It detects about 10-20% of cops. It's my first radar detector and I always stay away from cheaper products but this thing feels pretty useless for $550 after tax(when I bought it). I can only imagine how badly anything cheaper is.

Spoiler alert: That's because the cops it "isn't detecting" aren't running radar. It's not a cop detector, it's a radar detector
I mean your expectations for the device were overhyped. It’s a radar detector not a cop detector. If a cop turns their signal off your radar won’t get any hits. If you’re thinking well what’s the point? The point is that most cops hiding in bushes or at the ends of roads are running their radar because that’s how they can justify a speed on the speeding ticket. It’s easier to get out of a “estimated speed ticket” than a “radar detected ticket”. In one the cop could be exaggerating, in the other it’s incontestable. Radars are more likely to get you out of tickets that CAN be avoided rather than tickets that can’t.
Not every police officer has their radar turned on. Its a RADAR detector, not a police car detector.
Don’t buy a radar detector without doing research on how they operate.
