We have the R7 and like it, but even within Uniden's product lineup, the R8 would be our top pick. It's clear around Detroit and on our extended drives to the Twin Cities that the R8 is clearly an upgrade to the R7. Between the Redline 360c and the R7, there will be many who will probably disagree as this is a hot topic, but the Redline 360c is a better radar detector overall. False K band alerts are less with the Redline 360c, the app integration is much better, and Escort has a better build quality that is RDD immune. The R7 has excellent range but so does the Redline 360c. We are of the mindset that the Redline 360c has outlasted R7 over the course of time, but if you like Uniden's and want to stay in that product lineup, go with the R8. It's a fantastic upgrade to the R7 and one of our favorite radar detectors.

Yeah we only mention it briefly in this video . . . it's a naming thing and probably more of a technicality. The Redline 360c isn't technically part of the MAX family because "MAX" isn't in the name, but a lot of the technology inside of it (Blackfin DSP, for example) has filtered down and through the other members of the MAX family. Yes, it sure can. The GB70 will handle gasoline engines up to eight liters and diesel powertrains up to six liters in displacement, including late-model HD trucks from the Big Three. That said, you will be fine to use it on a smaller vehicle. There is also an internal battery management system (i.e., software) that tells the NOCO GB70 to only deliver the juice required by the battery needing a jump. Essentially, it can tell the difference between a lawnmower battery and a truck battery and adjust its power delivery accordingly.

It could be a couple of things ... one, your battery might really be completely dead and in need of replacement. Or second, it could be that the engine in your Hilux SR5 (if you have the 2.8-liter diesel) is right at the capacity of what the GB40 can handle. Currently, the GB40 is rated for small diesels up to three liters in displacement. That combined with a very low and nearly fully discharged battery could be the issue. Thank you for the feedback and for watching our video .... using rubbing alcohol with your fingers is the best way we have found to get the mount clean (and then let it air dry). We also use rubbing alcohol on that section of the windshield as well. That has really helped ours stay put and keep detachments to a minimum.

Did they get you with a laser (i.e., lidar) gun? If that was the case, the detector may not have gone off if you were the first and only vehicle targeted. Officers are trained to fire their laser guns at a flat surface, like the headlight or license plate. It's such a concentrated beam that radar detectors often can't pick it up (it's different if you are the third or fourth car in the line as the laser beam does eventually spread out, like ripples in a pond).

I've had trouble in the past . . . sometimes, I have to close the app and switch off my Bluetooth and that usually does it if I am having issues (like if it just shows the Bluetooth logo on the detector for a long time and doesn't connect). I've gone so far in the past to restart my phone, but most of the time, I'm able to resolve the issue by just closing the app and switching off my Bluetooth on my phone, then trying again. You are okay to just use Drive Smarter as it's the replacement for Escort Live going forward. If that doesn't work, you can message Escort's customer service via the app. I did that last fall when I was having some connection issues with my Redline 360c (some of it was because I had a Motorolla phone and they were working on getting the app to sync with that brand of phone).
