Always Trust in the Difficult: Making Obstacles into the Path
In his Letters to a Young Poet, Rainer Maria Rilke advised that turning towards what’s difficult is a path to growth and freedom. The Buddha’s teachings likewise point to the freedom that comes from making difficulties, obstacles, and hindrances into the focus of our practice. What appears to be a barrier to letting go becomes a doorway to awakening when we turn towards our experience open-heartedly. We explore how to work with these practices in meditation and daily life.
