For anyone that didn’t catch it: The prosecutor purposely said the wrong amount of charges so Darryl Brooks would insist on correcting her while refreshing the minds of the Jurors how many charges are against him and that he, himself recognizes them. It was a brilliant move on the prosecution team. I’ve seen this move before and it always works well.
She used his ego against him.
This was soo brilliant that Judge Dorrow could not hold back her glow with glee after sustaining his objection. LMAO

When the DA said the "honking of the horn works both ways" that was the MOST IMPORTANT STATEMENT of her closing because it's true.....if he honked his horn, then he KNEW PEOPLE WERE THERE IN HIS PATH! Great point Sue!!! EXCELLENT

@@lucyleary4356 Apparently there was - Darrel I think suggested he honked his horn which proved he wasn't trying to run people down. I must look more into this 'honkage' issue now to satisfy my curiosity.
@@MIck-M He honked his horn early on, possibly before he hit anyone in the parade. It's irrelevant though, he had every chance to stop after he hit the first person.
@@johnbull1568 Yes too true. The way I wrote my comment sounds Like I was saying the 'pre-honking' would have actually been somehow proof of innocence where it clearly is not.
He also talked about vehicle problems such as the brakes BUT witnesses said he sped up rather than slowing down even as people tried to get him to stop. He also didn't try to dodge people but would dodge bigger objects like other vehicles. He was also able park his car in a hiding spot and then still not check on anyone once on foot but rather ditched the clothes he was wearing. Then he made no mention of it during interrogation but was upset when investigators brought it up because he KNEW he was in deep trouble because he KNEW what he did PLUS he was shown video of what he did and he was still worried only about his own fate.
i like how he went "whoa, i have 76 counts, not 77!!" as if that one last count will save him from life in prison

@@RW-to2fy death penalty is kind of a polarizing topic... i agree that society is better off with brooks dead, but if i were part of that jury, do i really want to be one of the people to condemn a man, disgusting as he is, to his death? i don't think my conscience would allow me to do so and i don't think that death as punishment to criminals has a place in a civilized society...

He coldly watches the video of the death injury destruction and carnage.
The most powerful part for me was watching Judge Darrow’s face as they watched the video. She was trying hard to keep her composure but couldn’t help swallowing and shutting her eyes at the graphic parts.
Then at the very end when Brooks said “Am I muted?” She said no but she held her finger over the mute button because she KNEW he would be desperate enough to say some bull.
“You’re muted NOW.” Was my favorite line of the whole trial.

He's a sovereign citizen yet he holds on to the US constitution like a 3 year old holds his teddy bear.

He doesn't even consider himself a citizen, just a sovereign which is the domain of kings. No one ever crowned Darrell, however, if his asinine assertions were true, that would make his actions an act of war and a war crime for which he should be put to death, but I truly doubt he thought of that.

When the attorney said he was acting like it's everyone else's fault but his, she described him completely in one sentence without realizing it. That's all Darrell Brooks is - a person who blames everyone except himself.

To think that he would be so arrogant as to believe that a jury would just nullify and declare him innocent when they have so many facts from the State proving his guilt. Sue was BRILLIANT. She said the counts wrong to get on the record that Darrell COULD IN FACT HEAR what was going on in the courtroom. Sue even pauses to wait for his "objection" after she says the counts incorrectly. Then Judge D smiles because she realizes how smart/cool the whole thing was.

Yes. All three of these prosecutors showed remarkable restraint and skills. As a senior woman who normally abhors violence, I admit a desire to punch him right in his deplorable lying face. The horrific violence that he inflicted on so many innocent adults and children deserves the most extreme punishment the law will allow.

I’m in tears. I’m so upset and angry for everyone who was injured, who lost family to this oxygen thief, and that they had to witness his narcissism in this trial.
I was doing good holding back my tears until I heard the people screaming in the video clip. Now I can't stop crying like a baby

He is trying to do everything in his power to get a mistrial. I have the utmost respect for this judge for enduring all the BS that he threw at her. She kept it together and when, not if, he appeals this case he will lose and spend the rest of his life behind bars! The fact that he acted like he was defending himself against a speeding ticket, instead of brutal homicide. It was disgusting and so very disrespectful. I'd like to think he's figured out that he is not the smartest person in the room, but his ego is so big that he will stay in that teenage state of mind.
This guy loved every bit of control and attention this case bought him. What an absolute waste he is. After watching this case I thoroughly enjoy the thought that this guy will soon be sitting in cell without any control, long forgotten by many, wasting away the remaining years he has of life. I completely agree that why he spoke for 2hrs + at sentencing. He knew his time in the sun was ending and he was holding on for dear life. Pathetic!!

I looked it up and he straight up lied about the recall on the 2010 Ford Escape. The recall was for a STEERING tourque sensor. He kept saying only "tourque sensor" to deceive people. Failure of the STEERING tourque sensor can result in some loss to the power steering of the vehicle which would be most noticable a lower speeds. It has nothing to do with a car accelerating OR breaking!

Even if there was a loss of steering, the car has brakes. even if the throttle sticks the car has brakes and an ignition switch. that he kept going indicates this is BS and I'm sure the vehicle was checked for those sort of problems after the fact.
That’s not true. The 2010 Ford Escape had multiple issue with the throttle and specifically had issues with the accelerator getting stuck. A simple Google search will show you thousands of cases.

Not to mention, most normal people would rather crash into a tree or building before they would even think of using a living human to stop a " runaway" car!!!!
When she mentioned their shoes, I was hit by a drunk driver at the age of seven. I flew over 4 lanes of traffic, they never found my shoes. This closing argument is haunting. I hope that these poor families will be able to heal . I’m so very sorry for these people and their pain.

Darrell Brooks used his past to honestly believe he could talk his way out of anything he did from pimping out his girlfriend, running over her, beating her, shooting at relatives, jumping bail and the other long list of crimes he committed. But the murder of 6 innocent people and the injuries to others, you sir CAN NOT talk your way out of a GUILTY verdict! Prayers for the family of the victims.

How can he claim to be a sovereign citizen but claim the rights of the Constitution.
The sovereign citizen movement is totally incoherent and self-contradictory, it's based entirely on a profound misunderstanding of the law. They believe they can say a magic incantation that will somehow free them from the burden of following the law, while still receiving all of the protections it provides.
The Sovereign citizen BS is a smoke screen to try and get a mistrial or buy time. We're all Sovereign citizens after we won the Revolutionary War.
SovCits think the Bill of Rights are the only laws that apply to them.
I was confused by that at well.
There is no logic to Sovereign Citizen ideology. You can literally replace every legal sounding word with “teletubby” and it holds the same legal weight.
The last 3 minutes are utterly haunting. The Stoic expression on the prosecution and judge's faces betrayed by tiny glimpses of emotion demonstrate the horror of the crime more than the video itself could have.

It's very gratifying to watch skilled people utilize our justice system to its true purpose. We saw it in the Amber Heard trial and now again we see these professionals exhibiting both their skill and their respect.🕊️☘️
You don't really need a "powerful" closing when the obvious is obvious but she was brilliant. Kudos to the Judge for putting up with his craziness. Career criminals often go one step further and he did.

He was Not sovereign citizen when he was in jail and when the detectives asked what his name was he said D Brooks and always responded to that name when the detectives would speak to him . Only when the trail was about to begin he became sovereign c. ( but still wants his rights )
Not only was it hard to hear the gasps & painful cries during the closing video…but seeing Judge Dorrow clench her face & fight back the tears was even harder. It made the intensity of what that video likely depicted even more senseless & abhorrent.
It must be incredibly difficult to stay composed in that moment. She was amazing.

But to truly humanize the victims lives against the actual loss endured from the atrocities committed by that scumbag, it would have made her closing arguments that more powerful and effective. Once the verdict is read, I sure hope we do hear from the families and learn more about them. It might even attempt to bring brooks to some remorse... but I'm not banking on it. Cheers!

He has no remorse, and if his car was faulty he'd be so upset and have remorse, especially rewatching the videos, hearing and seeing people get hit and killed.

YO! The prosecution is a genius!! She got him to admit he was guilty by giving him the wrong number of charges! She used his own wit and ego against him… you can tell she knew it was working when she turned so fast to hear his objection. The judge saw the plan too when she confirmed the amount of charges. She could not hold back a smile at the cleverness and prosecution having tricked him… I am so proud of her. Bless those victims and their families…

You could see the judge trying to hold back her emotions whilst the video of the incident was played at the end of states closing. i would be bawling in my chambers after watching that. That prosecutor deserves a medal for her suggestion to just let him speak. Petulant babies often don't know what to do when you call their bluffs. He really only says the word nullification. The point he makes about their power is they can find him not guilty. Which is correct. The judge deserves a 2 week vacation

Opper's Closing was amazing. All 3 of the State Attorneys were incredible.
One of the first officers to testify , I remember how distressed he was when asked what did you hear ? It took him almost a minute to get out the words , The worst sounds I’ve ever heard . Just imagine in his years as an officer what he has seen . That tells you how horrific just the sounds must have been . It gave me chills .

His “I don’t understand” claim didn’t hold up. He knows what is going on, knows the consequences, just not how to express himself without being physical.
Narcissistic personality disorder is a very popular topic nowadays which is probably the reason this trial has been streamed and has attracted so many viewers. If that is what it takes to bring attention to this behavioral anomaly, so be it. I'm loving every minute of it....

God bless everyone who was affected by the actions of a single coward who caused so much pain and heartache. Those who lost loved ones. Those who had injured family members and friends. The jury who had to live through the wreckage and horror this unemotional and uncaring monster created. The town where this took place who are healing and trying to get their community back together. The doctors and nurses who cared for everyone. Every single individual who tried to give aid. Those who were witnesses and had to look in the face of evil. Everyone who prayed for and still are praying for all of the affected families and friends. I know I'm missing people but God knows who they are and he will hear our prayers and blessings.
