I like this 5x8 conversion a lot, it's pure utilitarian, no funny business. 100% dig, lots of room for future upgrades too. Must have been your wife who chose the interior colors LOL.
I’ve watched several videos and researched in the web regarding these small trailer builds and yours is one of the simplest, most practical ones I’ve seen. I’m saving your video for later use when I build mine! Thanks and great content.
Having the entrance door in the V-Nose makes for a very good use of space with the galley at the rear. The living area is light, bright and airy and looks like a really lovely place to spend time in. Gorgeous looking exterior, too! I wish you well with your sale of this unique little camper.
That was my favorite part! I have a plan drawn out for a 7x14 design doing the same thing with sleeping sideways. It would be an amazing trailer for a family of four. For now though, we are using a roof top tent on our 4runner and we are really liking that! I'll have a video of it up soon. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely! Glad you liked it and thanks for watching. Make sure you subscribe to the channel, I will be making a overland trailer from scratch this winter!
I thought "Nice build and beautiful light positive colors"... but when you dropped your wing table extensions at the end of the bed you became a hero! haha I now know how to fix my short bed issue in my 6x10! THANKS. And I hope you sell it and start on your bigger camper, as I am sure it will be just as nice but more spacious.
Thank you very much, and I'm glad it gave you an idea for your own build. That was one of my favorite features of the camper, too! I was able to sell it within 24hrs and wound up building an overland trailer with a roof top tent. It is actually smaller in footprint, but it is suiting us and the adventures we are doing right now very well! Here is a link to the build series: th-cam.com/video/11UMg-ujxJ8/w-d-xo.html
Pretty incredible what you did with a tiny trailer. Those extension footings are genius! The kitchen is so nice too! I would have put a window in there to pass the food inside. Great job, thanks for the tour!
This is one of the best off grid kitchens I have seen! Gravity feed fresh water means no pump, and I love the slide out storage for the cooler. A quality cooler is better for short trips than a fridge which requires electricity. And the folding shelf storage for your duffel bags inside solves the issue of how the heck do you get to your stuff from the bed when it's folded down as a bed! I see so many of these little builds that only have under-bed storage which is not convenient in the middle of the night! Thank you so much for sharing this thoughtful build that would be easy for a DIY!
This camper is the best arrangement I have yet seen, just elegant. Great plan in kitchen area, the dinette and then partial bed, then complete bed, well, just beautifully designed. Extensions for bed, that double for shelves and the door mounted drop down heater shelf are great, as is the drop down stove support. Such good design.
Thank you! We actually thought about the pass thru, but we only ate in there 2-3 times. Normally the weather was good enough we would be eating outside.
Small yes but VERY nice....I like how you made the back kitchen...besides, when we go camping we plan on staying outside and exploring ...... can't wait to see your next homemade camper.
Gosty Ty, that was my thought exactly. If you make the camper big and luxurious enough to stay in it all day and night, then why even go anywhere? Lol Glad you liked the video!
It really was! I may build a bigger one some day! Right now we are using a roof top tent on our 4runner and we are really liking what we can do with it, but our needs and desires may change again. Thanks for watching!
After watching your video, I just ordered one with nearly the same config. I have been debating the idea and this sold it. Thanks! Also, fellow Virginia guy near Blacksburg.
Great choice! The entry door in the V-nose really is an inspired idea that hugely improves the use of space. Even without the rear kitchen the V-nose entry door is still particularly useful, and I can't think why more owners don't select that configuration.
I've been looking for a place that would do custom cargo trailers that wasn't $$$$$$ Thanks for the info (found in a comment reply below). I'll be ordering one from them soon to make myself a camper for behind my Jeep.
At first I was thinking why would you need a faucet for your sink if you're using a gravity fed tube but noticed it gives it structure so you can use the tube like a faucet. Very smart lol
Really nice job. I,m in the process of converting a 5x10x4.5 cargo trailer and am several months into it I hope to get some footage up soon. Thanks for sharing.
This is a super nice build - nice job. It feels like a teardrop you can stand up inside. One thing that might be cool is an opening so you can pass food through from the kitchen without shuttling back and forth.
Really like this video very nice build some great ideas we done a 6x12 v-nose I like your kitchen idea on the back an awning is awesome we did put 9000 btu mini-split that heats an cools it’s very efficient runs on 110 an keeps it comfortable year round Thanks for sharing
That is awesome! We purchased the paint from lowes. I cant remember the name off the top of my head. We just left today on a trip to the Ozarks, but I will see if we have any left when we get back and let you know. Hope you enjoy it!

@@loganpartyof4runner Yeah. As a rule CT's are much stronger built than RV's. But then within the CT's you get into Better or Best. I would not again buy the standard CT that people pay $5k for. I can tell by your build you like quality.
Hi, this the perfect cargo conversion for me...I work from home with a desktop but it’s requiring travel & rent is expensive....would you please pride plans for this?
Unfortunately I did not draw any plans. I kind of figured it out as I went along. I came up with the rough idea to where I could order the trailer, then I came up with the final dimensions of everything after I measured the inside of the actual trailer. If you want to send me your email address, I can send you an email I sent someone else with some rough dimensions of the bed/booth area. Hopefully that will help.
For its size & its simplicity its amazing. You should patent your lounge/ bed system. Impressive. Have you gotten or made your larger conversion yet ? Is that snow in S.C ? Miss that here in Florida.
Thanks for watching the video! We have not done another camper yet. We are camping in a roof top tent right now and it is working well for us! That is snow you see, but we live in the mountains of southwest VA.

Unfortunately, I never weighed it, but the manufacturer stated it was just under 1,000lbs. With modifications, I figured it was under 1,500lbs, and loaded with supplies, under 2,000
A window AC unit was placed on the ground and slid underneath the camper and the air was captured and piped in the window using flexible ductwork. I would put the AC inside the door during transprt and the ductwork under the bench seat.
There are two vents on either side of the trailer that can't be closed. I would also usually leave at least one window cracked a little bit for fresh air, and we would have a fan circulating everything. We never died. Lol
They were built by the company that made the trailer. (Makemytrailer.com) I actually shortened the height of them from what they did. I didn't like how tall the cross bars were originally.
Hi my name is Jessica, I have questions but I hope it’s not to personal. 1. How do you use the bathroom when needed if you don’t have a toilet? 2. How do you shower when needed if you don’t have a shower? Because my husband and I don’t have family to go to for that type of help and we are going to convert our cargo trailer into a camper home due to the pandemic. We are trying to figure out how to make everything work in our favor. To have a bathroom, kitchen and bedroom/dinning area and have enough storage space but without anything looking crazy? We have a 6 by 9 cargo trailer
Hey Jessica, I'm happy to answer your questions. A lot of times with a trailer as small as that one, there just isn't room for a bathroom or shower. We were relying on using showers and toilets and the campgrounds we were staying in. If you subscribe to our channel and click on the notification button, I hope to do videos very soon explaining the toilet bucket we are currently using with our Overland setup, as well as the solar shower and shower awning we are running on our 4runner to make us self sufficient on the trail. All those items could be easily adapted to a cargo trailer conversion setup. Stay tuned and I hope the upcoming videos will help you out!
