After playing for over 30 years I usually find the guys doing the demos to be what brings a product down, but this guy is the opposite... I could listen to that guy play all day. Great demo and great amp.
Thank you. Best review of this amp I’ve seen yet (and I have seen many). You really highlighted the range that it has and also thank you for giving us the DI out too. That and the clean tones are important to me in making a decision as well as all the gainy crunchy goodness. Not many have shown the full versatility on offer. Thank you.
Out of all the iterations of boutique low wattage, small footprint amps (most are great), the JJ Junior is the best value IMO. Packs that energy in power chords and still has good cleans. The emulated out is also very cool. Maybe not the slickest 'IR' theme but definitely in the ball park of realism.
That was a great demo I will get myself this amp eventually. I knew the high gain and clean were great from other demos but I had not heard the important lower gain settings but it sounds great there too.
Fantastic review. I think this is a must for me. I love the versatility. I think this is the one and only time I have ever seen an all-tube amplifier with only a single power switch. This leaves a significant question regarding the warm-up time and powering the thing down(With no damage or undue stress to the unit).
Nice review. I have probably watched it 20xs. As far as the jjr is concerned do you think it could keep up with a bar band diverse rock, pop etc... coverband environment i.e., not be drowned out by drums. Thats been my concern for months. Thanks for the response
@@GuitarsAndSynths I enquired about one in Australia today. I was told "hopefully in january, but 4 of the 6 that are coming in are spoken for already"
@@GuitarsAndSynths I have been on "the list" for 5 months and just passed another supposed "expected delivery date" yesterday..so this will be about the 6th or 7th one of those..and oh wow,the next Expected delivery date is October 17th..I bet its going to be the same thing..another new date in November sometime..I guess I can just watch TH-cam everyday and hear how the amp sounds.
Hi Jim , please buddy tell me what effects you are using with this JJ , I just bought one and its on its way to the house , your a hell of a guitarist sir , please could you tell me what you have in the loop and whats in front of the amp please
could you please measure how many db before bass flubbs out ? I need around 110db continuos for my band, I don’t need a bigger brother if this bad boy can do this.. thanks in advance :)
Is it versatile? Can you get good Satch/Vai leads out of it without a boost? Might sell my AxeFx for this, but if it is not very versatile I might have to pass.
Hey there, can you reduce, step down wattage on this amp for live playing. I know its 20 watts, but its loud and would prefer to drop wattage and crank wattage
No Standby? Is it a Class A amp (I mean cathode biased)? On the other hand, there's a little buzz noise when you stop playing. Is it because your guitar pickups are too close to the amp or something else?
If I recall correctly (don't hold me 100%), but Friedman said standby switch really not necessary. I believe he made that comment during the Tone-Talk show with Michael Nielsen.
Why don't any of you demo guys ever turn down the guitar's volume knob when using the hi gain channels? I'd like to hear if the amp cleans up or if it's always a dirt pile! This amp sounds like something I might like to buy but I'll never buy it without knowing if the thing can clean up!
@@GrowMasterGeneral I'm not sure.. I mean, ya you're right.. But I was just saying clean up as in, for example, my one amp gets a bit muddy/dirty sounding and loses it's low end at higher volumes(lets say 7-8 out of 10). It cleans up a bit when you turn it down to lower living room playing volumes(1-3). That's what I thought of when I seen this.
To whom it may concern... using the volume knob on your guitar to turn down reduces the input signal to the amp therefore reducing the gain. Why are humbuckers generally both louder AND gainier than single coils? Just use your dang ears! The big boys often use their volume knob to go from clean to scream or anywhere in between with a good tube amp.and their volume knob or even...gulp... with their picking dynamics. This method can be less effective with monster gain settings though. Ham fisted players and newbs might not understand this. Go plug in. Try it. Then come back and apologize.
JJ jr really is something special. One note though, like any amp you can tweak, tweak any speaker to sound good. I tweaked with 2-3 different celestions until I bought a G12M creamback. This is the speaker that comes in the JJ jr combo amp, and I believe Dave Friedman did all his fine tuning to. What a difference. Even more incredible. Not that this creamback is the best speaker in the world. It is just the best speaker for this amp because it is what was used to do all the fine tuning. Fine job Dave, with no pedals at all you get all these thick harmonics and bite. I am still working with this amp but one note. I have always used a Boss TU-3 tuner, and found it to tone suck a little bit, but noticeable, I bought a tc electronics polytune and it has a much better buffer in it and does not tone suck. much more open. Guitar into polytune into JJ jr best so far without losing anything.
It's actually called the double J, like a ranch. It's not called jj. There's a video with Jerry and Dave Friedman where they discuss how it's called the double J and how everyone gets it wrong.
@@GearZenChannel The Runt is a little rounder sounding in my opinion. The double J is much more sharp, articulate. Quite distinct if you ask me. Both are amazing. I've been waffling between those two amp heads for awhile and it's a tough call because they both have,I think, something unique that each one of these heads possess.
Great songs :... Them bones, man in the box, rooster... This amp sounds better with the overdrive, wah pedal, reverb and some delay than anything else... Even sharper with Jerry cantrel modified stratocaster which sounds like a wild cat

absolutely love the focus on the clean channel. way overlooked on other demos.
I just bought this amp. The clean channel is absolutely incredible. I can believe none of these other reviews speak on this.
Love the clean sounds. Such a versatile amp
Finally I can hear the clean channel on this baby, thanks man. I aint buying no two channel amp that does'nt have a damn good clean channel.
me neither

best demo yet, by far
2:46 I don't want to seam crude, but is this assembled in LA from shipped in parts made in China?
No. Made here in the US.
Made at Boutique Amps in California. Same factory that makes Soldano and Dave supposedly signs every chassis before they ship out.

nice sounding amp and it has my initials on it.
Sounds fantastic for EL84s but I'm thinking about the DS 40 w KT88s His amps sound great at low volumes so might as well Great demo

Does anyone could help me by giving some feedback about how friendly could this amp be in a bedroom or small studio?

No you cannot. But it does have a master knob.
What Reverb are you using there? Sounds amazing.
Why is there so much hiss and noise from the amp?
Probably stemming from Ox. Ground loop.
Must be his guitar.. I seriously doubt there's any way in hell it's the amp.
Not the amp. I have it. Quiet as can be.
I highly doubt that.
Great demo , you need to do a demo with a hat and sun glasses .😀

@@brianmckenzie1318 Dave and John Suhr both said it..in the part 1 episode with John Suhr and Pete Thorn

Standby switches are a vestigial organ from early Fender designs because Leo misinterpreted the receiving tube handbook.
