Ccma, certified clinical medical assistant focuses more on clinical work. They work directly with patients taking vitals, drawing blood, assisting the doctor, etc. Those programs are shorter and you can take them at a private school. Cma, certified medical assistant focuses on clinical and administrative/office work, making appointments as well as clinical work, those programs are longer and have to be taken at a community college for two years. Because the two year program is longer and more detailed all healthcare facilities recognizes the cma, but you can still get a job as a ccma, it all depends on what the job description says it is looking for.

...soo it's basically the same barring prior experience. What a way to confuse people because my coworker was like "she's going for her CCMA" and I'm like it doesn't matter; its interchangeable.

No, some places strictly require the cma because the program is longer and more detailed. Everybody accepts the cma, but not all places accept the ccma. The description will tell you what the employer will accept.

The CMA and RMA are used interchangeably.. I am currently in an Associate degree program and am registered with the NHA to work on my CCMA but almost forgot my school also offers a chance to get the RMA. my school also offer CMAC and the NCMA... I am guessing the CMA you mentioned may now be the NCMA.. I will do research

I have worked as a medical assistant for 11 years in 4 different specialties. How do I go about taking the exam based on experience?

Thank you so much for explaining this in detail. My background is Human Resource Management, but I want to have the CCMA under my belt. 😊
