Great review. I started off looking at the Cayenne S (coming from a Mercedes ML550) and was underwhelmed by the performance. I took the diesel for a test drive at my dad's suggestion and was blown away at how much better it was to drive for ~$20K less, picked one up a few days later and for the first time in my life I really can't figure out what car to be lusting over that would be better than what I already have.
Nice video, I got my first Cayenne diesel, such a nice suv , after diesel scandal and recall price was wright and extended warranty you can not bit , very happy
Hi there, was the turbo lag obvious to you? When I floor the Cayenne Diesel, it takes about a second for it to go from 800 rpm to 1800 rpm then it shoots out.
It’s normal on turbo engine, specially on diesel , I drive Sprinters for past 10 years ( I believe it’s a same engine 3.0 L. ) I can live with it, gas mileage is unbeatable
You don't need a extended warranty on a Lexus rx because they never break down and you don't have to remortgage your house to keep it on the road a real price of overrated crap very unreliable very very expensive to keep on the road ,,and roughly about 3 to 4 break downs a year ,Porsche should be taken to court for misleading the public in how great their vehicle s are I don't think you could buy a worse vehicle if you tryed so go right ahead if youve just won the lottery that's the only way you would be able to keep one on the road s
Owned this car and loved it. Many road trips which is where it shines. Like driving in a vault. Torque was definitely strong and necessary for a car of this weight. Used to get 750 miles per tank of fuel at 31 mpg on trips from FL to PA. Would only have to stop once in NC to refuel. Sold it when they had to make the modifications to exhaust system due to diesel gate. This caused the engine to be loud and clacky (new word) like a truck. What is your opinion of the sound of this engine?
2015 CD, the only negative since the diesel-gate retune is turbo lag… on hwy i still get 32 MPG and towing a 3k trailer I get 16-17 MPG. The turbo lag can be overcome a little when in “sport” mode. The diesel doesnt come with air-suspension (maybe a special order option, not sure). The handling/cornering of the coil suspension is excellent however the ride is definitely too firm… despite that I love my Cayenne… one of the best cars ive ever had …
Thx for the review. My family car is Audi A6 8 speed Avant diesel which is the first diesel I've owned & like you, blown away with the torque. It's new but will definely look at the Cayenne in due course. Any chance of you grabbing a 991 Turbo to review ? Best Don
Nice review. I believe, however, that the platinum edition includes other options (such as the Bose system, wheels, upgraded seat functions) at a lower cost. Also, you can no longer get a base Cayenne V6 or diesel for the 2014 model, but only the Platinum edition. I believe this is a way for Porsche to enhance the last model year before a mid-cycle redesign.
I didn't have enough money for a Cayenne, so I bought a Touareg 3.0 TDI (2010 => the second generation) for half of the Cayennes price. It is still very similar to the Cayenne and build at the same factory. Exact same engines and many same parts in a slightly different package. Ofcourse, the Cayenne uses higher quality real leather and some other materials, but that's not something I need.
Excellent review as usual, I really do appreciate your efforts. I'm assuming you're an Aussie expat? Where we're you originally from and what are you doing in the states? By the way, Perth WA here
Ha, I think you've made a wise decision. Recently went through Auckland on the way to LA. Definitely not my scene ( although I was told I needed to visit the country and not the city)
Hi Nick, Good luck w/ yr 911. I think yr 911 may just have a faulty electrical plug connector issue. the swimming option may be a rubber floor plug that your CT dealer forgot to put it back on? I use to own 2007 Cayman S and loved it. Cayman-S was my weekend/race track only car and my wife hated me having the car for years. I use to drive 2010 VW Touareg TDI. 8 months ago I traded in both Cayman and Touareg with 2014 Cayenne Diesel with all options minus Air-sus. I drive 700 mile round trip twice a month and I, including my wife this time, love every bit of it. I get 32 m/g while I'm cruising about 85/90 miles most of the way. In terror of fully loaded Cayenne is just beautiful. I like the feature that I can close the tailgate from the driver seat. I just don't like the looks of X-5 nor Q7. I also think Cayman handles better. p.s.I would like to buy 2015 Cayman-S w/ minimum options, any color except a black wl do. -Rich
I feel dizzy with you circling the car, that aside its another great video, thank you...guess the 911 is a Friday build car, that's a shame, can we get an update one day, cheers.
Nick, please review the turbo or the same gen, 958. I'm in the market for one, bit you've got me thinking of the diesel now. Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it. Even tho this is your fav.
Hello Nick! I need your advise on whether I shall buy the Cayenne or Cayenne S? Im trying to convince myself with the Cayenne even though i keep reading so many comment on the net that the S is more fun to drive, baring in mind that i do consider running costs , insurance and long term reliability. thank you !
Don't really get the Cayenne - you can get the VW Touareg based on the same platform with only a fraction less power for far less money (and in my eyes it's much better looking too), so you really do seem to be paying a huge premium for the Porsche badge.
Matthew Sharpe This is true however, The Touareq has really gone down market from 2009 model year on, so there is noticeable differences in the material qualities of the VW, Audi and Porsche.
Nick Murray Makes more sense then. A mate of mine has a 2010 Touareg and it seems really nice on the inside (just really nice all around actually, though he's always complaining about how expensive it is to service) - being NZ it could be a 2009 Touareg first registered in 2010 I guess - plus I've never been in a Cayenne so don't have a basis for comparison.
how can you say the Porsche is overpriced if you`ve never been in one ? There is a night and day difference between VW and Porsche and if you don`t realize that, then you are a VW guy.
+Matthew Sharpe the internet is full of comments to this effect. Talk to someone who actually has one or is familiar with the Porsche brand, they are not the same at all.
same platform & chassis but different engine, suspension, material, main thing is, it handles differently, very differently. Q7 shares the same platform and chassis but again, different personality. it's like you and your sibling have the same underpinnings but different personalities.
I have been gently persuading you to pick up an M6 cab, but a Cayenne would be a fine choice too. Ultimately it is your choice, as I drive a Camry and don't get to vote as to how you spend your NZ dollars
Hi Nick, Which one of the following Cayenne do you think has the best ride quality: 1) Base/Standard suspension 2) PASM suspension 3) PASM with air suspension Thanks a lot!
The base is a lot better than it was in earlier versions. The air suspension only really helps with handling in its lowest position it is more useful if you plan on off roading the car. The PASM does help but I find it less noticeable than in other Porsche cars. It is one of those diminishing return augments, adding Air and PASM does make a difference but enough to justify the cost? In my experience not.
The turbo version cost more than 400,000 USD in China thanks to the 150% import tax. The money you have to buy a diesel model will only be enough to buy a benz c class, and it's made in China at Beijing's benz joint venture.
Not as good as the Lexus rx ,the Lexus is number one for realibility for the last 8 years with jd power i bought a new Lexus rx 400 h hybrid in 2008 it has 248500 miles on it now no problems what so ever and the parts aren't that expensive ,i wouldn't buy one with your money never mind my own a very unbelievable vehicle, i seen a video of an Canadian Porsche Mechanic and he said that the Porsche cayenne is a very expensive and unreliable vehicle to keep on the road ,,so guys look for that video and tell me what you think s,
Pretty good, I drove it back to back with a model that had PASM and AS and I don't see the need anymore. It was different a few years back when AS made so much difference to the handling but not these days.
To be honest with you, Diesel engines are great if they work because the torque is unbelievable but if something goes wrong it's hard and expensive to repair. New X5 features 3.0 diesel with 3 turbos 381 HP and 740 nm. There was an Audi q7 v12 diesel = 500 HP and 1000 nm. We have a Vw Touareg diesel but it is very problematic, that's why we bought the LR4 with 5.0 V8, hope it will be more reliable then diesel. Love your videos ;)
If you're smart get a Lexus rx a much more reasonable and easy to live with SUV it will run rings around the Porsche any day of the week I have a 2008 ex 400h I bought it new it has 220000 miles on it now with no expense issue s just regular maintenance and timming belt and water pump replacement at 90000 miles,,,the newer models have a chain even better,,,,parts aren't that expensive I pay 220 pounds a year to insure it ,,best vehicle for realibility for the last 8 year s in a row, with 310 hp it's no slouch either and smooth as butter to drive no rattles or squeak s either and effortless power,,,Porsche simply can't compete a real class act thank you Lexus you win every time ,no contest sorry Porsche you've just lost again ,, so take my word from a 44 year old mechanic that has worked on all sorts of cars Porsche included. ,,but your money on the smart choice buy the Lexus rx you will NOT be disappointed, and I think that you will be secretly smiling to your self that you have made the best possible choice that money can buy and having a laugh when you see a Porsche cayenne and thinking about the expensive piece of overrated crap that poor guy has bought its just a money pit so if you value your money or stupid enough to buy any porche for that matter go right ahead and tell me in a couple of years who was right ,you will regret it from day one when you you see insurance cost ,parts and labour and continuous brake downs ,go right ahead I will be laughing my nuts of at you ,,so go buy your lovely Porsche your welcome ,,,,,, biggest mistake of your life. ,,good luck guys you'll need it ,,s
Wow, every car company wishes that they had "dissatisfied customers" like you who give raving reviews for a loaner while your 911 is such a lemon. That platinum spoiler looks fugly. I'd pay money just to get rid of it.

I enjoy listening/watching your videos more than some of the biggest car channels
Thanks for this great review. I'm looking at a used one at a Porsche dealer and this review certainly help me out.
cayenne is an excellent SUV. looks classy and great engines
Nice video, I got my first Cayenne diesel, such a nice suv , after diesel scandal and recall price was wright and extended warranty you can not bit , very happy

I really, really enjoy your Videos. They're calm and very nice made. Thanks a lot

Don
I might ask someone to lend me their turbo for a review or we if not I might get one at some point then you can watch me break it : D
thank you. that was nice to watch. you guys are really lucky. here in Turkey they sell them for 150k usd for base model.
Wow that is a lot of $$, still in Turkey you get real Turkish food so we consider you lucky!!

Good review 🙂👍👌

LMAO 😆

Kiwi : ) they drove me out of the motherland with torches and pitch forks.
Ha, I think you've made a wise decision. Recently went through Auckland on the way to LA. Definitely not my scene ( although I was told I needed to visit the country and not the city)
Should I buy one with 93,000 miles , great maintenance records for $ 22,000 ?
Hi Nick,

37 mpg highway 700 mile range on my diesel. Tons of torque. Too bad it is now extinct.
The V8 Diesel is even better!
Before purchasing a Cayenne, maybe check out the new Macan!
The US market missing out on the V8 diesel? It also comes from Audi, just as this V6 diesel.
I feel dizzy with you circling the car, that aside its another great video, thank you...guess the 911 is a Friday build car, that's a shame, can we get an update one day, cheers.

i just wanna say, this car does not have air suspension, this cayenne only come with coil spring. i hope this is not too late to share with u
Do you know how it compares to other SUVs as far as off road capabilities?
Thanks nick !!
I will be interested to see if you prefer the Cayenne to the Macan. You mentioned your mother will buy one but I guess that is back in NZ

What lens and focal length did you use on the truck scene. I really likes that slip.
Would be nice to hear what you think of new S with V6 Turbo vs Diesel (in terms of reliability as well). I am looking at 2015 models now
I have been gently persuading you to pick up an M6 cab, but a Cayenne would be a fine choice too. Ultimately it is your choice, as I drive a Camry and don't get to vote as to how you spend your NZ dollars
It seems a bit telling that your Porsche has been in the shop for so long...
Hi Nick,
Which one of the following Cayenne do you think has the best ride quality:

3) PASM with air suspension

What camera do you use for the point of view shots while you drive? I assume it's some sort of head band mount?
Go pro 3 on head band. Leaves a wavy mark on my forehead for the next few hours so I look like an idiot.
Nick Murray Thanks. Maybe put a hat on afterwards so people would not see the mark.
The turbo version cost more than 400,000 USD in China thanks to the 150% import tax. The money you have to buy a diesel model will only be enough to buy a benz c class, and it's made in China at Beijing's benz joint venture.
Wonder how this would compare to the X5 35d M sport. The X5 is more boxy though.
Please test an X5//M (F15) diesel and X6//M (F16) diesel and compare with this Cayenne
Also, what are the issues that the dealership is still trying to fix with your 911?
If you check out the 911 videos I go over them there. Windows and mirrors moving on their own and smoke from the dash.
Ah. Thank you! Hopefully they get all of the issues resolved very soon.
Is this based on the Canyonero ?
It is Pete!
Is this an all wheel drive, are all cayenne awd?
i know this is late but yes
panamera or cayenne which one u like better?
Not as good as the Lexus rx ,the Lexus is number one for realibility for the last 8 years with jd power i bought a new Lexus rx 400 h hybrid in 2008 it has 248500 miles on it now no problems what so ever and the parts aren't that expensive ,i wouldn't buy one with your money never mind my own a very unbelievable vehicle, i seen a video of an Canadian Porsche Mechanic and he said that the Porsche cayenne is a very expensive and unreliable vehicle to keep on the road ,,so guys look for that video and tell me what you think s,

In Europe we have a Cayenne Diesel S which produces around 340 HP.
Hopefully the US will get this model, diesel is finally starting to sell here

What color is that?
6:36 it's not a Panamera but good review.
Cars are so cheap in the US, jealous.
I agree..
Really? Compared to where??
This guy Aussie?
6:35 lol
