The reason the fireboost has such a trajectory is because I changed the angle of what the game thinks is a floor by doing a slopejump at 0:31. Therefore, I was able to get horizontal momentum from where I burned.
I actually had so much speed that I had a LOT of wiggle room, and so the ending lavaburn to the star was the most optimized it could be; any more and I would have too much speed and literally fly above the star.

As someone who has done a self-imposed no-power-up challenge in this game, seeing how many stars I could get without ever using a power-up, I just came to this sight.
I did it as Luigi, and I did all of Ghostly Galaxy too (there's about 250 dead Luigis sitting on the spiked roof in that first star now). Yeah, I went that far just to get stars without power-ups. I even tried coming up with methods for Sand Spiral (I was unsuccessful, but I still brainstormed for over an hour).

Even easier is triple jumping + walljump + 2p jump to the top of the ceiling for Sand Spiral, which may be faster in a speedrun than the intended route (I believe Dendonodon's channel might have a TAS of this soon!)
If you want to do it 1p, then floating off the power-up crystal to the top of the ceiling may be possible as well.

My understanding of TAS is that it’s basically a computer putting frame perfect inputs to finish games a fast as theoretically possible. I always thought of it like if a human played a game for an infinite amount of time, they could eventually replicate a TAS. So, is this stuff on this video “technically” possible for a human to do or am I misunderstanding how TAS works?
TAS is an AI robot. I ask chatgpt to TAS the level and the AI bot does the TAS for me. That’s what TASbot means its just a robot doing everything

im certain it's doable in 3das. people have gotten the skip rta, but going directly into the freezeflame secret star is... probably precise enough that no one's going to do it?
@@ApriiSR No, it's TAS only. No one has gotten this skip RTA as it's very hard to change the orientation of what the game thinks is a floor. The reason I am able to directly go to the freezeflame star is because I have the height due to a different burning from a different orientation. The closest RTA attempts die out at the boss because immediately getting burned doesn't allow you to go that high (see desc).
In fact, even if the Freezeflame star was located 7000+ units higher, I would've been able to get it. I had to slow down to not overshoot.

How are you slopejumping on lava?
You can download the files and play them back on dolphin to know how more in detail! Basically, Lava isn’t lava. It’s an overlaid texture on a regular floor (see all those triangles that make up the “sphere”). And that texture is imperfect near the triangular edges!
