    If you have this issue, RETURN YOUR PHONE and buy a new replacement.
    *A moderator turned comments off on my original post on Samsung members: us.community.samsung.com/t5/G...
    -Backstory:
    Pre-ordered this phone Feb 11th and received it Feb 23rd. Seems that it's defective and theres some others having similar issues with possibly a bad first production batch shipping in the US.
    It started off randomly and seemed to go away on restarts making me think it was software related. I now have realized that it's hardware related. Cold weather (30-40 degrees Fahrenheit) seems to cause this issue. Pressing down on the screen seems to put the proper amount of pressure on the device to make the speakers sound normal.
    Of course Samsung customer service sucks and claimed that they could start a warranty process in which the phone would be sent to their repair center for them to "examine" it and determine if it was actually a defect. Well since it's intermittent only in colder weather, it probably would be a waste of time. Besides, I don't want a "repaired" phone. I demanded they replace it with a new device so I wouldn't have issues down the line. (I keep phones for 3+ years). They refused, I decided to outright return it entirely (within 15 days of receiving the phone). I then purchased another s22 hoping that I won't have the same issue. I lost my preorder incentives in doing this unfortunately.

    *Update for anyone with the same problem:
    I bought mine off Samsung. Since they didn't want to send me a replacement, I returned it under the 15day return and purchased a new phone myself. I'm happy to report my new phone doesnt have this problem and in fact the speakers sound a lot louder and fuller even compared to my first s22 when it sounded normal. Also read the video description for additional info.

    The reason this happens is due to the water seal. When you go up in altitude the pressure in the phone is able to escape...but due to the watertight case the opposite is not true. What this means is that when you come down from altitude (increased pressure) or the phone gets cold, the air contracts which causes negative pressure inside the case. Speakers need to have free air to move...when the pressure is negative due to cold or going up and then down in altitude, you get this crackling.
    The fix is to open the Sim card tray and let the vacuume of pressure equalize. If the phone is cold, then allow it to warm up by keeping it in your pocket.
    It's a pain, but it's due to waterproofing.
    Hope that helps some of you.
    Cheers
    Edit 6/8/2022
    I just got an additional S22 plus for myself. Both my wife and I took our phones up into the Mountains recently and her phone did the crackle thing as soon as we were below 1000 feet...the new one I bought for myself did not. I think that maybe Samsung has addressed this issue in the latest batch of phones...possibly a different seal on the SIM card?

    We need to raise this massively with Samsung it's a definite fault! My husband had the same issue, we noticed it happened more when the phone got cold. Our provider exchanged his handset no issues as we assumed it was an isolated incident. Within days his second handset was doing the same, a little Google search results in many users experiencing the same especially when there's a drop in temperature or air pressure (flight's). As I also have an S22+ we tested my phone with a temperature change, sure enough mine also does it!! Samsung need to address this asap!

      I thought it might just be an issue with the first batch cause I bought it at initial launch but here we are months later with lots of people reporting the same problem. Seems to be an issue that affects multiple models but some reason the s22 lineup most. Not sure if it's snapdragon specific, which is what my phone is.
      Heard it was due to how the phone isn't able to depressurize in altitude changes. Or extreme weather changes. I'd stay away unless you don't deal with those variables often. I haven't had this issue often on my new one but it still will occasionally rear it's ugly face

    Try this solution:
    There's a pressure relief valve under one of the cameras of the new samsungs. My problem was that I've installed a camera lense protector, which blocked the pressure relief and caused this problem, and that's why you needed to open the sim card tray, as there's no other way for the pressure to be relieved.
    removing the camera lenses protectors solved the issue for me.

      This is interesting because I also did use a lens protector on both of my phones which had the issue, but I doubt many others have done this and some of gotten multiple phones in a row with the problem. Have you tried putting your phone in a freezer for 2 to 3 minutes and playing audio from the speakers to make sure it is a solution? The issue is triggered by cold temperatures which affects the pressure as you mentioned. OUTSTANDING! I just bought a pair of these POS and I fly for a living. Got out of the plane the other day and tried to use the speaker for a call. Crackled it's ass off. Went away after 20mins... Then going from the cold house to outside it went apeshit again. This is BS!

    • @jagboy69
      @jagboy69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Discovered something tonight. Remove the simcard and it's holder from the phone... Now play some music on the phone. While it is playing, I want you to gently suck on the exposed hole on the bottom of the phone. You will duplicate the crackling noise. That got me thinking... This is most definitely a pressure issue between inside and outside the phone from either temperature changes or actual elevation changes. Now look at the actual sim card holder itself. Note there is a tiny rubber seal on it. My theory is cutting or ripping off that seal might allow the phone to equalize pressure thus avoiding this problem. Naturally, I expect this would ruin whatever waterproof quality certification the phone has. Thoughts anyone before I rip off that seal?????????? Thanks!

    • @jagboy69
      @jagboy69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Part 3.... I scrapped off a small part of the seal on just one side of the holder. Now with the simcard back inserted and while playing music, I can get the phone to make the speaker crackle. So in effect, what I have done is create a tiny path for the pressure changes to equalize from inside and outside the phone! I'll take it flying soon and will report back, but for now, I bet I licked it! FWIW, replacement sim card holders are available on amazon in case you'd like to try this. When ya got nothing, ya got nothing to lose!

      @@jagboy69 Yep absolute horseshit that a recall or official fix hasn't been implemented by Samsung yet. But I will say it does seem to be a pressure difference issue. TLDR: Samsung appears to have fixed this in the latest phones marked with Hardware Version REV1.0
    So i just got my third S22 after previously owning two with this crackling issue, and after trying the freezer test, the speakers are not crackling. I got the new purple version because I figured it was the newest model and therefore likely to be manufactured more recently (Serial numbers says July). On my first two phones, I did have a camera lens protector on and I have seen others claim that taking this off removes the problem, so maybe this is why my newest one is not crackling. I find this hard to believe since I don't think those are that popular and it would seem unlikely that this many peoples uses those, plus it has happened on the S22 Ultra as well, which can't take camera protectors. So perhaps Samsung has fixed this in the most recent models. It's also entirely possible that this is temporary and it begins crackling again...will update this post accordingly
    Update: I just noticed that there is an additional tab in the "about phone" section of the settings, that reads "Hardware Version: REV1.0". I therefore believe that this means Samsung has addressed this issue in the most recent models and if yours says this, it may be good. If not, your phone is probably affected by the issue. But glad to see that Samsung has addressed this, but still incredible that they have not released a statement given how many of the original phones it affects

      I just purchased my S22 plus last weekend and experienced this for the first time today. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my hardware version shows as REV1.0. I do have a camera lens protector so I am going to take that off and see if that resolves the issue, but I am most likely going to return the phone and ask for a new one. This is really pathetic for a flagship device. Been a loyal Samsung customer for over a decade, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

      @@landontomazich1608 So heres the issue with getting them from carrier. When new phones come out the carriers expect lots of orders so they will buy in large batches for popular flagships and keep stock. I'm betting many of theirs came from the same "batch". I ordered from Samsung directly and I don't think they carry stock like carriers do. Haven't had a problem yet with my new replacement. Maybe keep trying to replace yours until you find one that's not faulty.

    THE SOUND PROBLEM FIX WITH THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S22
    I have since a few days the new Samsung Galaxy S22
    I immediately had this well-known "BUG" with the sound ... With me the sound problem arises when I am longer in colder places , or my battery is very weak ... I have now much researched and unfortunately this is probably a "hardware problem"
    There are two solutions that fix the problem. The first would be to simply drain the battery and after charging all is well , or the second solution is - to remove the SIM card slot briefly.
    This creates the pressure equalization , which otherwise does not take place ... Samsung has not considered this ... Too bad
