This song got a lot of hate when it first came out cause it was so different from everything they had done before, but it is really a brilliant song. Fun fact, the lead singer was dating Kate Hudson at the time and this is about a fight they had, he wrote the song in 5 minutes.
Not every song out of that era is about Matt's relationship with the actress. So is not this one, nor was it hated by Musers.

Absolutely beautiful song! When Matt sings "I need to love" I feel goosebumps... Muse use a lot of electronic elements in their music. And they've used dubstep elements too. U should check Muse - Unsustainable Live At Las Vegas [U.S. Arenas] - that is live played dubstep with guitar, drums, bass! Mindblowing! and also check Follow Me + Madness-(Live at Rome Olympic Stadium-Italy). I think u'll like it!

Muse are definitely one of those bands who have just done whatever the hell they want to do over the years, musically speaking. I can't say I've liked all of it - probably my favourite record of theirs is "Absolution" from 2003, after that they became stadium-filling pop stars and lost a bit of their credibility in the process (in my opinion). Their songs have always been well-produced though. Their last album was heavily synthwave influenced, whereas their new single has much more of a hard rock sound, verging on heavy metal in parts.
If you want a laugh watch their "Knights of Cydonia" clip it's just a terrifically fun tribute to B movies
The guitarist, Matt, has a Kaos pad installed on his guitar (think small Ipad). The beginning sound of this song is played on that pad by him before he starts singing.
