    I have the 721e and i had to replace mine after a year of commercial use. I do 10-12 homes every snow fall. So it stands to reason i would need to replace my paddles yearly. There is a trick to getting the bolts onto the hard side (drive belt side) you put a piece of tape over the open end and then put in the nut the tape holds it in place making the hard side a lot easier.

    I replaced the paddles on my power clear and my power lite. Should mention that a t-25 is needed for removing paddles.

    I replaced my paddles without replacing the scraper. Got 1/4" wear the first hour. Changing the scraper I believe slows the wear of the paddles. Note, I have course pebbly concrete. The original paddles lasted an estimated 15-20 hours over a 7 year period.

    I have a medal leash that got pulled in on the right side or the rubber scrapper holder. Can the whole bar and scrapers be removed by taking the three bolts out on the two out side ends S

    I went to change my belt, paddles and scrapper blade on my seven year old Toro 721 r. Divine providence guided me to do the belt first. I descovered that my keyway on the rotor shaft had partially stripped out and the key on the pulley was pretty much toast. The thing was throwing snow last season so I had no way of knowing what I was running into. The pulley key had partially sheared and the pulley rotated on the rotor shaft and kind of locked itself in place. If I had changed the paddles first, it would have been a waste of time becuase now I have to replace the rotor and pulley. So, I've ordered the new rotor kit and pulley. I was surprised at how easy the rotor comes out of the blower. This leads me to say that I've seen the comments about the difficulty of replacing the paddles because of the close quaters. Even if you are not changing your belt, getting the rotor out should only take about ten minutes. 3 bolts on the belt cover, the bolt on the pulley, 3 bolts each for the bearing flanges on the right and left, spread the front of the blower a little and remove the rotor. Once the rotor is out your access to the blades is wide open. Assemble in reverse order. If you are changing the belt, you have already removed 4 of the ten bolts that you need to remove to take out the rotor. It just seems easier this way then fudging around with trying to secure the paddles on the rotor while it's in the blower.

    It's a lot easier if you remove the entire spindle. Just remove the belt cover and there's only 3 bolts holding it in on each side.

    Did you have to remove the gas from the tank when you flipped the machine to remove the scraper bar?

    • @TheCrazyCaptain
      @TheCrazyCaptain  2 āļ›āļĩāļ—āļĩāđˆāđāļĨāđ‰āļ§ +1

      I honestly don’t remember. I usually run it low on gas or out of gas before I start on any engine project.
      The safest way is always to remove all the gas by running it out or draining it out.

      @joemusicman64 āļ›āļĩāļ—āļĩāđˆāđāļĨāđ‰āļ§

      I did not have to drain it and I had a pretty full tank. What I did was make sure the gas cap was really tight, then tilted it forward to test if it leaked. It did not leak one drop. I did stuff a paper shop towel there just in case while I was working on it. But the paper was totally dry when I finished. Of course I agree with the video poster that it's better to do it with an empty tank, but that would have been very difficult to do without spilling gas all over the garage floor. In my case better to just leave it in. The scraper bar is so easy to do thanks to this video. He had the needed tools listed which would be the most time consuming. The job takes literally 5 minutes. The paddles were a pain in the butt since I had the heady duty thicker ones. But it's all done now.
