    Nate, remember that for fast desert you need long DROP travel suspension, not LIFT. The idea is to keep center of mass as low as possible while clearing the medium size rocks. But desert go-fast and big rocks are diametrically opposed concepts. Baja and Rubicon are not two words that should be used in the same sentence about the same rig! ;-) Looking forward to the builds.

    • @stevet647
      @stevet647 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As long as you can adjust the suspension, swap out the coils for adjust rebound and dampening you could retune the suspension for two different activities. I had a rally car that could with re-tuned coil overs and rebound also do the race track until someone on the track used me as brakes into the hairpin and pushed me into the wall. Not that I am still hating the guy for that it has been 18 years... Anyway with some thinking it could be done but would require changing the setup some.

    thanx for the update. so helpful. also its good to hear your rational behind changing projects, or selling rigs. so much of getting things done is the skill of assessing and re-assessing projects you are working on and how they fit into your bigger goals, I think we can all learn from that, and I think, it should continue to be a part of the chanel. Don't look at terminated projects as a failure you are just setting a good example for all of us.

    Good luck on The Con with this truck. Last year we had to tow a new Tocoma off the trail, twice, with our XJs and TJs. The guy destroyed his rack and pinion. Had to hike out and come back with parts a week later.

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol we will see. I did the con with two xjs on 33s the trail isn't that bad if you choose the right lines (easy lines). However we had the same thing happen with the XJ! They are so damn unreliable for trips like this! Of course the CPS goes out half way through then he shears a 1 ton tie rod end and had to walk out to get a replacement lol .

    The stuff you do is just amazing. You are correct. Some of us have to rely on bolt on products. The things you create are an example of the very hard work you put out in every project. I did not have the time to put in the work you do and have had to rely on others like yourself who have mastered your skill. You talked about wanting to put aluminum on your vehicle. You may already know this but there is a company called "Aluminess" that makes off road bumpers. I ordered one for my truck. 06 Ram 2500 Diesel. They make one for the Toyota if I am not mistaken. Regardless, if you build your own or order a bolt on Bumper, it is an option for others who do not have the time, or put in the time to craft such beautiful stuff for your off roading adventures. Peace, Mo

    Nice one Nate, dude you helped me gain the confidence to start welding about a year ago and since them I have transformed my 1982 Toyota Landcruiser in the process, I cut out all the rust and welded in about 12 square feet of new sheet metal in 1-2" wide strips, welded in a rear sill from tail light to tail light(I cut the back end off another truck) then I made a winch mount and front bumper mount extension for the stock bumper, custom boat bunks for my sail boat trailer and recently welded a new rear frame section on a 1985 Land Rover 110(Defender). I think that the Tacoma will help grow your channel and build a new audience, I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with. If the border ever opens, I am in Squamish, BC, I'll see you on the trails. Keep up the great content.

    Idk about the 37’s. Bronco is still ifs with small steering components. I foresee people snapping tie rods, cv’s and destroying rack and pinions trying to crawl on the rocks with 37’s. Is the steering rack from a ranger? F150? All new? Hopefully they beefed it up.

    • @Intentsrig
      @Intentsrig 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Micah Yeaman Problem is that fixing solutions for stock IFS is not as easy as bolting in new parts (axles, bigger TR's) like on a Jeep. Ok maybe a company makes stronger outer tie rods, now your inner will fail or your rack&pinon, both of which are a lot more time consuming to trail swap. No one is going to make a custom rack and pinon, apart from Marlin crawler for the newer toyota's but even that is a serious modification and not a part you can fab up in your garage.
      There is a reason IFS Toyota guys leave the Tie rods stock and that is to make it the weak point. Plenty of videos of people bending IFS tie rods with only 33's or 35's.
      I just can't see a way the bronco will be functional with 37's on serious trails unless ford did something drastic with their IFS we don't know about yet.
      I think it will be great on 33's and even 35's in rocks if you realize it's limitations.

In my opinion I’d say they can perform just as good if not better in mud, sand, snow etc and solid axles are great for heavy builds and rock crawling, love to hear your opinion on the channel👍

    Yeah I still can’t believe how much Tacomas are. Like 40k for one that’s a few years old. And for what? There isn’t much value you get with a TRD pro compared to the other TRD

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There isn't much value at all lol. It rides like my one ton, the milage is terrible and the "offroad" package comes with street tires 😆. 41k.... and no front locker. BUT with some elbow grease it has great potential, it's just going to cost alot of money

    • @crzywlf69
      @crzywlf69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The value is it will last forever. All my toyotas have been driven deep into 200k and still ran great.

    • @KosmicHRTRacingTeam
      @KosmicHRTRacingTeam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The value is reliability and resale value. But speaking of the TRD pro, it’s crazy how many guys buy them for up to 60k (10-20k more than the off road) and then they throw the wheels and suspension off and replace it. When you do this, it isn’t that much different than the off road.

    • @crzywlf69
      @crzywlf69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @sneakypete187 I guess you didn't read much of my comment. I have owned plenty of toyotas and they have lasted way longer and held much better value over anything else I've owned. Scion wasnt a "toyota" which is why they cost half and were not over built like the Toyota. Anyone can have a bad experience i won't deny that. no manufacturer is perfect but the quality rep they have is not hype. The market is too competitive for all toyotas to be junk and people still pay a premium for them. Several of mine have been bought AT 160k miles and higher because of how well they last.

    • @crzywlf69

    Hopefully, Toyota has solved their frame rust issue. I have a friend that owns an earlier Tacoma (07?) and missed the "free" frame replacement by a couple of months and is now stuck with a frame that won't pass Pa. state inspection. I pulled the box for him and to check out how bad the frame really is and while it won't pass inspection, to "repair" the frame, would require major disassembly to get at the damage and do a proper repair. I offered to help him with a frame swap (I've done frame swaps before, they're not that bad) but he is so discouraged over it all, he doesn't want to do it. I guess all I'm saying is, take proper precautions to prevent possible future problems. God bless, stay well. And congrats on your new purchases.

    • @RyanWithAviators
      @RyanWithAviators 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as Jeep and Toyota stupidly continue to build vehicles with fully boxed frames, they will be forever plagued with frame rust issues. It’s unfortunate, too, because fully boxed frames offer so much more rigidity. It doesn’t matter how good their frame coating and galvanizing is, a fully boxed frame holds sediment and grime inside the frame and it holds on to moisture, rusting the thing from inside out. If Toyota and Jeep make their frames C-channel with slightly thicker materials, they will not have any issues to speak of at all.

    Dude what! Selling the Jeep and getting a Toyota and a Bronco. NOOOOOOO.
    Just kidding 😃
    When the Bronco was announced, I saw a lot of jawbanging how it will suck, how it will be inferior to Jeep in x ways for y reasons... I think the Bronco is the best thing that happened to Jeep for a looooong time. I think complacency was setting in, and without straight competition, god knows how bad it would have gotten over the coming years. Now: Bronco is here and tadaa, Jeep finally gets the V8 back. Jeep needs Bronco, Bronco needs Jeep. All the offroad cars need each other to keep the evolution working. Communism showed us what happens when there is no competion: everything turns to shit.

    Use 91or 93 octane fuel in the Tacoma and it needs regear from day1 and you will love ❤️ it . I went with nitro 4.88 and after switching to 91 octane my Gen3 Tacoma feels way better no gear hunting anymore and has power through out the revs , that’s my experience so far . I went with 4.88’s because it is my daily and only have 32 inch tall tires with 1.5 inch lift fox with reservoirs . After 40k miles on it with thousands of miles off road , I don’t have 1 single issue with it , very solid truck , I love it more now than day 1 when I bought it brand new . Keep up the good work I will be looking for your videos now that you have a Gen3 Tacoma 👍🏻
