Steve Kerr Battles Craig Kilborn in 3-Point Shootout (2004)

  • For the sake of some All-Star Saturday entertainment, former NBA sharpshooter Steve Kerr took on former SportsCenter anchor Craig Kilborn in an impromptu 3-point shootout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The 6'5''' Kilborn, then the host of The Late Late Show, grew up in rural Minnesota, starring for the Hastings High School basketball team, parlaying his abilities into a scholarship at Montana State. Kerr, meanwhile, retired in 2003 as a five-time NBA champion, connecting on 45.4 percent of his 3-point attempts throughout his career.

    It's interesting to see how tall Steve Kerr really is. Because he was surrounded by freakishly large fellow NBA players he always looked so small. In reality he's a solid 6'3" and pretty ripped and athletic.

    This dude has unbeliveable luck. He played with the GOAT. He played with the all time Spurs team he has now coached the all time regular season 73 win team and won 2/3 (nearly 3/3) of the last couple championships. He has the two best shooters who ever lived and a generational talent in Durant and an enforcer in Draymond. His father died of a tragedy but after that his pops definetely has been watching over him from beyond.

      It's subtle. He was originally going to sit back in the chair and then noticed the guy talking was leaning forward when he began to speak. It would've been kinda weird if Kerr was sitting way back while other dude was leaning forward and talking to the camera. After he adjusted his seating, it helped him get engaged in the talk more. That's my 2 cents.

    bro the angles of the camera within this video made me realize how far the court actually is from the three point line bro lol I've always had respect for legendary three point shooters and I always knew it was far but the angles in this video man god fucking damn.

    • @jpogigtxcr1778
      @jpogigtxcr1778 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, if you play on the court, the 3 point line is actually closer than what we perceive on screen. You only have to adjust your power a little bit when shooting from 15-17 feet.
      The only problem is that, wrong angles and power gets amplified more as the ball travels further, making it more difficult to actually sink the ball to the basket.

      I played amateur/semi-pro level basketball in Europe as SG although I am only 1.78/5'10''. My jumpshot was as high as a 1.92/6'4'' guy's so I only got blocked by my G/SF opponent defending the perimeter ONCE in 10 years. Anyway, the 3 point line in Europe was too close for me so I started shooting from 2-3 meters behind that line.
      There was one player in the NBA in the 90s whom I emulated who shot the furthest 3 pointers at that time: Dan Majerle (I am die hard PHX fan). Of course nobody was guarding me so far out there in our games. :P And that was every sharpshooter's dream! In practice I shot around 35%; in-game I had around 40% success because I was more focused but....most of them were game winners. I called them 'daggers' because nobody else dared to shoot when the games were tied or there wasn't much time left on the clock. I loved the challenge! :D Oh, and in 3 point shootouts I was terrible. But in game, uh...I felt pity for the guy defending me.
