Grew up in MI and been at that track many times - did a good number of card operations and while we did some freight, we mostly ran the passenger trains as people wanted to ride behind the steamer (typically had the Mikado or Ten Wheeler for the car card operations and sometimes we double headed those two). First time we were there was in 1996 with the 0-4-0 and he only had 2 miles of rack. Last time we were there was around 2011 - I have the steamers Dad and I built and am building one with my sons and we are building yet another with Dad.
Sounds like some great memories! We were doing car cards on this particular weekend as well, I just mostly got video of riding between towns. It's a beautiful railroad, it's clear that a lot of planning and effort has gone into it!
@@mjotrainbrain6167 Had a lot of good times there. Around the early to mid 2000's is when he pretty much had expanded the track to the current trackage and then started going after buildings. He then added the tunnel at Avalanche and got rid of the 6% grade next to it when we were last there around 2010. From what I have seen in videos it looks like he added a tunnel just past the road crossing heading to Reed Lake and removed the track at Reed Lake that made a full circle
