ZUM ABENDSEGEN
Zum Abendsegen (To the Evening Service) was composed in 1833. It is a moving, contrapuntal miniature in A minor, one of the most ancient in feel of all Mendelssohns choral works, which possesses a poignant intensity arising out of his subtle handling of contrapuntally overlapping textures. Mendelssohns mastery of temporal pacing ensures that although the work builds towards and relaxes away from a central climax in little more than two-and-a-half minutes, nothing feels remotely forced.

That's amazing! Does the very last chord sound a bit out of tune or is it only me? I heard this so many times just to make sure, and it always sounds a tiny tiny bit off.

Das n fehlt in der Partitur beim Tenor.
Aber vielleicht ist das ja auch so gewollt und ich habe nur ein überholtes Musikverständnis?
Musikalisch betrachtet, vermisse ich auf der Partitur die Dynamik.
Fängt man mit Forte an?
Wird man in der Abwärtsmelodie leiser (und in der Aufwärtsmelodie lauter)?
Setzt man die Betonung regelmäßig auf den 1. Schlag, wie ist es dann bei den mit Haltebogen gebundenen Einsen?
Darf man auf Drei betonen, wenn ein neuer grammatischer Satz beginnt, zum Beispiel im Bass bei "und erfülle uns mit deinem Geist"?
Matthias Holger Mieth Es gibt eine mit dem Verstand durchorganisierte Musikwelt und eine " Welt ", die man nur mit dem Herzen begreifen kann.In Letzterer wird es fühlbar, wie man ein solches " Gebet " zu singen hat. Das geht natürlich nicht ohne Weiteres im Chor. Wo ja der Dirigent sein Gefühl für ein Musikstück den Sängern mitteilt. Aber " alleine " ist das eine wunderbare Sache. Da singen im Geiste alle mit. Und dann ist es erlebbare, gefühlte Musik.

Moving performance! Such a shame that the recording is (perhaps unintentionally?) a semitone apart from the score.
Maybe they have been using a different pitch?

A-C-E ist a-Moll. Sieht man auch an den nicht vorhandenen Generalvorzeichen
@mizzothify mizzothifi Doch, ich glaube schon. Die Töne A, c', e' und a' (de facto A-C-E) bilden einen a-Moll-Dreiklang. Deswegen ist der Akkord in Moll
@mizzothify mizzothifi Versteh ich nicht, tut mir leid, da musst du mir nochmal auf die Sprünge helfen :D Für mich hört sich der Akkord eindeutig nach a-Moll an und ich kann auch eindeutig das c hören.
