Yes jack Jones was in John Farnham's band many years ago. John used to introduce him as like having a son on the road with him. Jack was in a band with Phil Buckle Southern Sons before joining John's band very talented men.
Jack is actually a very fine jazz and rock and acoustic guitarist. I recall him playing with a big band as a teenager (I ran a clinic) and he was keen to know how to play better. I told him "you did everything perfectly". So after 35 years, he is still doing it right. The voice is transcendent but the guitar playing is never recognized. A very polite, talented, modest performer. With more skill than most.

I remember hearing this song when it first came out. So damn powerful! I'm trying to remember though what conflict it was written about, and I feel very guilty about that. I feel as though it deserves to be remembered. I do recall it was in Eastern Europe. EDITED: I found confirmation from Phil (Southern Son's guitarist) that it was about the Balkan conflict.
I find it kind of disrespectful to compare Jack/Irwin to John Farnham every time. I know you mean it in a complimentary way, but if you spend more time listening to him than just the occasional superficial listen, there really are plenty of differences between Jack and John. I could pick them apart every time within seconds. Jack is his own man with his own identity- he's not just John mk II.
Irwin is one of the most talented people on the planet... and also one of the most humble humans you could meet...One of my dreams was to hear Irwin, Farnsey and Michael Paynter sing together... hopefully one day it will happen !!! Get onto it Irwin hahahaha ( I tell him on his insta also... ) I'll settle for Irwin and MP whilst we wait for John to rehab.... (Nick has reacted to all three now.... )

There was a comedy song a few decades ago that parodied John Farnham and Jack sang in it pretending to be John.
I read where it said song and lyrics by Jack Jones when he was in Southern Sons. Released in 1993 I think.
Phil Buckle wrote it I believe. They were together in Southern Sons and released it back then.
