A disabled vet here. I never let it stop me but as soon as my daughter was born three months early I had the biggest break down because as soon as she came out of her mama, during an emergency c section, my daughter was screaming. I spent 4 years in combat and missed the births of all 3 of my daughters. Coming home and seeing and holding them for the first time was the most emotional times of my life. My son is going into Marines. He was gonna do the reserves, but thought he should go active and then college after he serves. Very hard, but very proud of him. My brother's in the navy and he was always tough as nails, at least that's what I remember. He wasn't there for the birth of his son, but he was lucky enough to be there for the birth of his baby girl. I haven't seen him in three years, my nephew was two last time I saw him, and I've never met my niece. I just found out last week that my brother is coming home in a month and I'm so happy because I'll finally be able to see him and meet my niece!

He died moments after opening that letter while showing me his beautiful newborn daughter and her mother's picture.. AK from 100 meters out.. I still bare the scars from where that round finally stopped and this song gutted me for a long time when it came out some 15-20 years agoish??.. now it's one of my favorites as my daughter who is now 13 going on 40 reminds me of how my best friend felt that day and moment just seconds before... I'm sitting here, 4 years later (seems like a lifetime) with my 4 month old daughter sleeping peacefully upstairs knowing I made the right choice.

When I was 2 my father went deployed. I remember when I was 3 he returned home and I ran up to him when I saw him walking towards us. He went remote when I was 8 and I cried for the rest of the day when he got in the van. It's hard seeing parents leave.
My baby girl turned one 17 years ago today. 2 weeks later, some planes were used as weapons in a terror attack and I was activated by noon. My daughter sensed the mood as I came out of the bedroom in my BDUs ans clung to my leg until I picked her up. She cried as I set ger down and walked out. That little angel sacrificed for this nation too as I missed birthdays, her first day of kindergarten, and so much more of her life being a voice on the phone from thousands of miles away. Now, she's a woman and all I can see is my baby girl.

As the father of an adopted little girl, I guess this song has an extra special place in my heart. She's 18 now and she'll always be "Daddy's little girl." I lose it every time I hear this great tune (especially at 3:00 of this video)...Wow!
I am graduating soon from high school and back in January I decided that I wanted to meet my mom and my brothers. I missed a lot of things in their lives. I am usually tough but I did cry when I first spoke to them and when I performed in a holiday concert because I didn't know if I will ever see them. I love them so much.

my brother is in basic training right now but is coming home for 5 days my nieces can't wait. the 9 year old is so excited to see her daddy and the baby is starting to teeth and giggle and coo at everything. i miss my big bro so much but when he comes i am going to give him the biggest hug ever.
I am currently in the service and even though I don't have a daughter, everytime I leave home my youngest sister cries. This song reminds me of that strong bond I have with her and makes me cry everytime I listen to it.

My brother's in the navy and he was always tough as nails, at least that's what I remember. He wasn't there for the birth of his son, but he was lucky enough to be there for the birth of his baby girl. I haven't seen him in three years, my nephew was two last time I saw him, and I've never met my niece. I just found out last week that my brother is coming home in a month and I'm so happy because I'll finally be able to see him and meet my niece!

You got to give some credit to gary allan, cause he got great vocals and a great voice, he's such a great American country music singer/songwriter, and if you didn't know this song came out in 2003 and the album came out in September of 2003, and his wife suffered a lot of depression and ended up passing away from depression, so I hope gary allan is doing well after that happening to his wife 19 years ago, plus gary allan was in the army for some years too, keep up the good work with your music gary allan, love ya man 🤠

I would just like to take this time to thank all of the Branches of the Military, you all give so much for your country and I am eternally greatful for that. My father left us when I was a young child and I never got the Father/Daughter experience. I have a step-dad that means the world to me but nobody can ever replace the way I feel about my father. It hurts me to know that my father will never give me away and see my children grow up, but I know that he is happy where he is. RIP Daddy

I'm 58,the baddest mothereffer I ever encountered in my 7 years of SWG, training,Va,SD,grad,AIT2,boots down in country,many opps he cried like a bitch the day he got mail,and in it was a handful of ziplocked Polaroids,late summer 1990 of his newly born child,born about 10 days earlier back home... He died moments after opening that letter while showing me his beautiful newborn daughter and her mother's picture.. AK from 100 meters out.. I still bare the scars from where that round finally stopped and this song gutted me for a long time when it came out some 15-20 years agoish??.. now it's one of my favorites as my daughter who is now 13 going on 40 reminds me of how my best friend felt that day and moment just seconds before... Hug everyone who matters and even those that you believe don't.. Be nice,respect all.. One never knows when their last second has arrived...

I joined the military out of high school with no real direction or other options in life. I met my future wife a few months before I had to decided on whether or not I would reenlist and knew that one day we would have a family. I'm sitting here, 4 years later (seems like a lifetime) with my 4 month old daughter sleeping peacefully upstairs knowing I made the right choice.

I signed up my senior year. My mom cried and changed the station every time American Soldier came on the radio. I didn't get why it was such a big deal. Then I finally had kids of my own. Just the thought of my sons going to Afghanistan scares me more than being over there myself ever did.

My daddy was supposed to serve in the army but he had frost bite on his hands so they sent him home & 2 years after I was born. When I started growing hair as a child it was blonde curls. I was my parents & my grandparents miracle baby & grand baby. My daddy played me this & cried. But I want to take a minute & say thank you for veterans & their families & friends.

Though my dad wasn't part of the military, I think of him with this song. He was a high school football coach who had three girls (the coach's curse my sisters and I call it). He was always tough with his players and then was all smiles with us.
October 1991, my four year old daughter clung to my leg just before we loaded up on the trucks to go to Allen Army Airfield. She kept pleading with me to come home with her. I couldn't let her see me fall apart, so I kept it together until the plane was in the air. Now she is 26 and has a five year old daughter of her own. But each time I hear this song I can feel her tugging on my BDU pant leg all over again.
When I was 2 my father went deployed. I remember when I was 3 he returned home and I ran up to him when I saw him walking towards us. He went remote when I was 8 and I cried for the rest of the day when he got in the van. It's hard seeing parents leave.
My baby girl turned one 17 years ago today. 2 weeks later, some planes were used as weapons in a terror attack and I was activated by noon. My daughter sensed the mood as I came out of the bedroom in my BDUs ans clung to my leg until I picked her up. She cried as I set ger down and walked out. That little angel sacrificed for this nation too as I missed birthdays, her first day of kindergarten, and so much more of her life being a voice on the phone from thousands of miles away. Now, she's a woman and all I can see is my baby girl.

So I never served as I should have and wish I would have I'm now 28 and just had a daughter and this song hits home cuz I never thought I would be so picky about sick small things but one little girl changed my life completely and I am a big baby now when it comes to her I sing this song to her when its bed time and she goes right to sleep love it it's a life changing experience

My brother is very much this: Hes was this big tough kid who likes to act like he's the biggest baddest thing on the block. Still does at 26. But when that ultrasound showed they were expecting he burst into tears. Still cries every time he sees it- He's gonna be a wonderful dad.
