  • Democrat Adam Smith absolutely wreck MAGA extremists Ralph Norman and Glenn Grothman for pushing a hateful amendment targeting DEI programs in the military. Smith bashes the MAGA Republicans and the GOP for pushing white supremacy and racism in America and the military and so much more. Smith schools the MAGA cult and Republican party in epic fashion.

I can't believe he made the "you don't go to politicians, to find out what's wrong with your car, you go to a mechanic" analogy with ZERO shame...
These are the same people who DO want you to trust politicians over experts on just about everything else they want.

The first time my father saw a black man was in the army during WWII. It was also the first time he saw the degree of prejudice against them. After the war, he moved to an area that was diverse and he taught his children to judge people by their actions and nothing else. "They bled the same as me," he told me once.

As a Disabled Veteran I can tell you why recruitment is down. Congress keeps trying to cut the VA budget. Prospective recruits see that once wounded and disabled, you become dependent on the VA and all it offers, especially healthcare. They see congress aggressively trying to cut the VA budget on a regular basis. Why should anyone put their lives and bodies on the line for a nation that stops caring about them after the fact? Think about it. Most people in congress never served a day in the military, so, like Tommy Tuberville, should never be allowed to hold sway over the health and lives of those who do or did. Only those who served should have this ability, like Tammy Duckworth. That's the only way to care for veterans honestly. These are the same folks that want make cuts to Social Security because they don't personally need it. They're all filthy rich. None of them would ever survive boot camp, or even summer camp, for that matter. Take better care of the veterans and you will see recruitment go up.

He gets it 👏🏿. I would have done 20 years if the promotion system wasn't BS. The army preaches lead by example but that means 💩 if you don't suck up. What unit refuses to promote a specialist with more combat time than any of the senior leadership, is the only person in the battalion to score perfectly on all of the fires direction control tests and exercises and conducts the MOS training for the battery?😤 To add further insult, they made me a squad leader in the 1st platoon and put 2 NCOs in the second platoon squad. Still refused to even give me CPL. WTF?🤬
When I went to setup for the training, the SGT shows up before the others asking about the training for the day.🤔 I asked him why they didn't give him the 1st platoon squad leader position.🤨 Turns out, he got promoted all the way up to SSG in reserves, never learned his job, and got bumped down when he switched to active duty.😮 So I got stuck training a SGT on a job that is geared towards un-aliving anyone or anything in a 50 meter radius of impact from miles away. Having shelled Ramadi during the same time we got Saddam, it isn't exactly a job where errors aren't without devastating consequences.
I loved being in the army and learning anything available. I asked to do college after 29 months of deployments to Iraq in the span of 34 months. Denied. Given to a new white male soldier, recently promoted to specialist. Asked to get lasik. Denied. Given to that same soldier. He was a suck up of the highest pedigree. He was fast tracked to SSG. Admittedly, he was very intelligent.
Glad now that I got out. I would be coming up on 20 this year. Working under 45 and not being able to talk 💩 against him would not have been possible.

Name a single major war where US success wasn't in part dependent on cooperation with a different ethnicity other then "White American". For this reason alone the military needs to be "woke".
We don't fight our wars alone and our warriors need to used to working alongside and with people very different from the GOP vision for our military. If they were to get their way it weaken our military and compromise our readiness to deploy anywhere in the world in rapid fashion and ready to engage not only the enemy but also with the local support that we depend on.
The very idea that a group has a problem with DEI shows that racism is alive and well. In fact I'd argue it hasn't been this well accepted since the last time "America was great"

DEI has always been part of military life, even if it wasn't called that. You learn from day one in bootcamp that the bigotry and prejudices you bring from your home and family are not going to fly. My bootcamp company had black dudes from the inner cities of Chicago and Detroit, Italian dudes from the NE, guys from Montana who had never even met a person of color, some good old boys from AL/GA, California surfer types, and some boring guys from Ohio. The good old boys quickly learned that calling somebody "boy" would not fly there. Same with dropping the N bomb - which resulted in a beatdown and discharge.
80 young men from very diverse backgrounds, scared and stressed, surrounded by people much different from them. Yep, you needed guidance and lessons on how to behave because what you were used to doing and saying at home would not fly there. And it worked - 13 weeks after showing up as 80 individuals, you graduate as a finely tuned machine operating as one. Those that could not practice "DEI" usually were not around on graduation day.

Maybe pay them a living wage. My cousin is in the military and had to apply for food stamps (EBT) to make ends meet. That is why my cousin is leaving the military as soon as possible.

Recruiting is down because of addiction to opiates, meth, alcohol ect. Its down because of obesity and mental health issues. If the government focused on opioid addiction as intensely as they did with COVID, we would have a lot more able bodies to serve in the military.

Who cares the sexual orientation, or the skin colour. I don't care about that when there is someone fighting for extremist/despotic ideology on the other side of the battlefield. This isn't the 1700's anymore, all these Republicans who only want those in their ranks to be filled with those who seem to fit the brochures and ads, need to understand that those who wear the uniform have to fight for what you start - not you deciding who has the right to fight for what you start. respect those who are willing to fight for it to stay, or to prove themselves to those who sit in their armchair and bemoan the world.
I always double check my posts by removing a full stop and adding it back. Content, I fixed a mistake and got "returned error". So I shortened my message to hopefully avoid the mysterious hammer that seems to be a minefield these days.

2 concurrent twenty-year wars, crappy VA support, and horrible pay (enlisted families on SNAP etc.) are also factors in the drop in recruitment.

Foreign adversaries - inclusion for years. For example, look at the Indian and the Gurkha inclusion for British forces- for which Britain is grateful and has great respect. To say foreign adversaries are laughing is ludicrous.

Yeah, and we’re also not worried about Republicans feelings either… It’s so infuriating that they act like that. It’s our feelings that are hurt when it seems to be very clearly. The Republicans that are whining about this.

Apparently people aren't joining the military because the opportunity isn't available for minorities. Other opportunities with a low unemployment, have more opportunities for advancement. The "don't ask, don't tell" was initially a way that gay people could remain in the military. The fact is people of all colors and sexual orientation can be the best qualified for any position. Discrimination can be more of a reason for low recruitment than anything else.

The people you are trying to convince diversity is the correct move are the type that want to speak to people not like them the way the cooks were and worse. They aren't strong enough to act without changing laws/rules etc without protection from accountability.

The people typically descriminated against are better for community outreach in areas where the people being helped in a foreign country are not white. This happens a lot more than most US citizens are realizing.
