  • In this video I show you how to make cheap magnetic socket holders using items from Harbor Freight. In total it cost me less than $30 to make this. Please let me know what you think of the holders and if you would use them or not.

    I picked some up this weekend -"free with any purchase"! Gotta love them! I just stick the sockets/tools right to the magnetic strip!

    Those magnets used to have a "free with purchase " coupon. Got about 20 of those sitting around. They always come in handy. You justbshowed another good use!

      Pat B I wished they’d bring these back as a free item. I’d stock up on them too. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    After putting magnets on smaller tray, a couple of 2X4s with some bungee chords will help keep them straight until the glue dries to hold in place. Great video!

      JAArcher0715 man that’s a great idea. Thanks for sharing. The definitely would have helped.

    Was looking into this same idea. I only keep 1/4 and 3/8 in my tool cart (mostly). But I keep them in the drawer, so might not have enough clearance with the deep 3/8. Definitely going this route if i can work though. Tired of wheeling my cart through the grass, then having to re organize haha

      I did end up doing this. Works awesome. Makes the socket holders pretty hefty if you take the entire organizer out- but I rarely do that when working on my vehicles. I went very simple with it and cut the magnet holders to length and put some gorilla glue on the bottom. Haven't had any issues at all

    A couple things. When you were placing the second row of magnets and they stuck to the first, that was hilarious. Any of TH-camr would have cut that shit. You’re awesome for leaving it because that’s how shit goes. Great job!

      AssocPress thanks man. I mess up half the stuff I do but that’s real life. I hate when people make stuff look real easy when in fact they will probably make the same mistakes.

    Hey Bring It Muscle Cars, would you did would work but to me thats a messy job of gluing individual magnets under the flat side of that socket tray and also those magnets are way too thick. i did something similar too what you did but used a magnetic tape that already has a sticky adhesive tape on it that can be applied to anything with out glue and also thinner. You can buy them in rolls off of ebay i think i got a 10ft roll to do all my Hansen 3/8" and 1/4" drive metric and SAE triple row socket trays. I used 3 strips on the bottom of the 3/8" drive socket trays and 2 strips on the smaller 1/4" socket trays. I have the 3 triple row post style on mine which keeps the sockets stable and won't get thrown around or move and combined with the additional magnetic strip mod that trays will not move around in the socket drawer when you are lugging the tool box around the shop.

    Just put a magnet (strong one like neodymium) on the socket/ extender/ rachet. The magnetism transfers down any ferrous material instantly (within a reasonable distance). It'll work better than these cheaper/ weaker magnets

    The Olsa Tools ones I have are actually smaller and lower profile than the plastic ones from harbor freight. Also, the harbor freight ones don’t hold some of the smaller ¼ sizes. Olsa does. Maybe you have an older iteration of the Olsa?

    Harbor Freight has abandoned their business model of selling cheap crap at cheap prices. Our local store went from being packed with guys buying truckloads of tools to being empty.

    i think i might buy these socket trays but try some cheap cube magnets off ebay, just drop them into the recessed drive hold on the bottoms

    • @BringItMuscleCars
      @BringItMuscleCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The magnets on those dont hold the sockets, they just hold the rail to the toolbox

      @@BringItMuscleCars yea, I think I might pick up some magnet bars tonight and try it. I considered doing it before. Not a fan of the height added in my drawers and wasn't sure they would hold through the plastic, but based on your video, I'm giving it a shot.
      Any ideas on keeping the drawers from sliding shut? Seems like I'm never on a level surface and my drawers always seem to slide shut when I'm trying to pull the right socket size
