Having lived in Florida for over 20 years, I can attest that there are definitely some strange and dangerous people that dwell in the woods. The weather makes it relatively easy to survive there, thus more people in the woods, and with that, come more loopy and dangerous folks as well. I haven’t lived there for decades now, but I still remember and can only imagine it’s tons worse since I left, especially with the economy the way it is right now. Stay safe, have fun, and keep your sidearm on you, hot and ready.
100% buddy, of all the times I've camped alone in the woods, the only times I've been scared is when I'm exposed to people. People scare the crap out of me. I've woke up in my hammock with a black bear right beside me and it didn't scare me anywhere close to the way weird humans have.
Wow, what a nice change of pace. I once shared an AT leanto in Virginia with some others including a homeless guy walking to Florida, so he said. A cold late Fall night and he wrapped himself in leaves and plastic and seemed quite comfortable. Not threatening but I was glad not to be alone with him. I would have roared off in a cloud of dust after your encounter. Well done.
This seems like a pretty Florida encounter. I remember driving through central Florida on 301 many times as a kid and it was always a bizarre experience. I also drove it myself as a teen… multiple speed traps, creepy people, burnt out buildings and much more. I understood why my dad never let me go into the bathroom at gas stations on that stretch of the trip.
This is exactly why I always carry protection when I am camping I am not afraid of any of the creatures in the woods but stupid humans are the ones I look out for. I happy you had a good time here in Florida after that weird encounter.
Alligator eyes at night with a flashlight are creepy AF. I've seen people in Southern Florida camping in tents next to a lake with 'gators swimming in it. That's a big heck no for me.
Me too. Not into being meat on feet for an alligator . See you later alligator in a wild 🐊 crocodile. That's how I regard them. But, it is their right, not ours to be there.
Ever camped at Salt Springs? If you sneak down to the swimming area at night, you can hear the gators growling and splashing around hunting for fish. And the glowing eyes...
I had a similar situation happen to me on new years. I know exactly how you feel and 20 days later I still think about it. I am so happy I followed my gut just as you did! Great instincts Rob!
I’ve lived in Florida most of my life. The “weird” is not just in campgrounds. Because of the weather, our comfortable camp season is only 1-2 months. Lots of mosquitoes and snakes year-round.
Super freaky story! That’s one of the reasons I EDC my Glock 43X MOS with a TLR7 sub and a Holosun 507K and 2 benchmade pocket knives all of this is EXTREMELY lightweight and easy to carry. There’s some crazy’s out in the world and I NEVER want to be a victim. Great video brotha 🤙🏽 love your content stay safe
Just tell this guy you're from New York. You have "associates" or "cousins" that will make this look like an accident if he steps too far. Kidding! I'm glad you're ok. A little shaken, but not stirred
You are clearly shaken by that frightening encounter, Rob. I’m glad you are ok - thank God! Great video as always! A lot of crazies “out there”, sadly. Stay safe and take care.
Commenting on the end of the video first. It was so good seeing you meet up with like minded people. It looked amazing and looked like a super group of people. I wouldn't mind seeing more experiences like that!! You have such a great personality, and I am sure your friends did too, and sharing fun places to go, ect is amazing. Now to the first part of the video,, yikes, and double yikes. I was totally creeped out here too Rob. Its heart breaking, the number of people suffering with mental health issues,, or drug issues, lost to society. Most harmless, some not. I am sorry for the fright you got, and so thankful the encounter ended the way it did. You are one amazing person, and your experience you take us on is awesome. This trip to Florida was amazing, beautiful photography. Looking forward to the next one, as always. Jay in Texas,, where we have more than or share of loonies! ( i was expecting a hog attack) .
You’re a true tough outdoors-man and for that encounter to cause you to freak out like that, means that man must’ve really been speaking crazy and he probably looked unhinged as well. Part of me wishes we could’ve seen and heard your conversation with this guy. Regardless, I’m just glad you were able to make a clean break and get the hell out there. Your safety is always the most important thing. Well, I enjoyed the change of scenery and I appreciate the time and energy you put into your videos. I wish you the best and I look forward to seeing more of your content! Cheers!
nice change of pace Robert. I can see how freaked you were, who wouldn't be. Good to carry protection, but having to use it can change your world. Very smart to follow those feelings, Rob...a lesson well learned...peace in good fellowship
ALWAYS trust your gut! Your gut is never wrong. Dude was probably a serial killer no freakin joke. Plenty of unsolved murders in FL, and they found body parts in the park your in, and other parks, Be safe brotha!
Rob I totally agree with you, human beings are WAY more scary than animals!! I’m glad you are safe! Please keep your protection on you! Take care and remain vigilant!
Me and the hubby watched tonight. We live in central Florida nice to see the swaying pines. The gut is always right he could’ve been just fine but always listen to the gut. Enjoy our beautiful state.
I've camped in the wilds of upstate NY and the Carolinas alone and with friends, but camping takes on a whole new level of weirdness in FL. I've encountered bears and panthers in the woods, coyotes, poisonous snakes and bugs the size of Cadillacs, but ain't nothing scarier than the encounters you'll have with other people. There's places in Florida you DO NOT WANT to even drive through with NY license tags. Protect yourself.
I'm planning on visiting family later this year in Florida. It should be interesting with my long hair, ear piercings and facial hair. Oh, and did I mention I have California license tags?
If you're in a gun friendly state like Florida, there is no excuse not to have not just a handgun, but a 12 gauge shotgun tucked in the rear or even a rifle. Nothing tells some criminal thug to go elsewhere than an AR15 wirh a 30 round mag or a 7.62x52 FN SCAR 17.
💛Happy Birthday! Ik that it's soon. 💛 A 180 in scenery and a 180 in experiences. 😊 Kudos for high tailing it away from a scary situation. Lovely to see you enjoying yourself.
Great video man. You're one of my favorite to watch. You just keep it so real. Glad you had a good time at Lucas' place here in Florida. People like you inspired me to create my own channel. Take care, from Tampa. Rich
Right there with ya bud. Glad you got the hell outta there after that and found a safe spot among some other “normal” campers. Always trust that gut. I like to go solo camping as well and people ask me the same questions about animals, and my response is exactly the same as yours.
Man, there are some weird people out in Osceola National Forest! You were in my back yard! Lots of homeless population out there as well! Safety can definitely be a concern! Glad you made it out ok! Love your videos btw... Thanks for all the hard work!
I agree with Viv outdoors, at some point in life, you will invariably run into at least one wackjob that just creeps the snot right out of you. Be glad for that heart-pounding that you had it could keep you alive someday.
North American Arms makes wonderfully compact .22 magnum mini revolvers that fit perfectly in a front pocket. Good comfort in a troubling encounter. Shotshell or hollow points, good for man or beast.
This was such a good video! I’ve had creepy encounters like that as well and I did the exact thing you did. That was so cool to see you meeting up with those other YT bros. Seems like a cool time.
Oh you met one of those! They always freak me out but I've never met one of those who talked about me possibly dying from a serial killer. That's so unsettling
Be very careful out there in the Forest. All types and kinds hang out in those woods. Criminals are everywhere. Always carry a firearm on you. You have a right to defend yourself at all costs. Degend yourself with anything you get your hands on
I hate that that guy scared you like that buddy. People like that are the reason why I always carry my 45 long colt, but im glad everything worked out for you in the end. You should come down to West Virginia and camp in cranberry glades. Its one of the reasons they call West Virginia almost heaven. Stay safe friend. Can't wait to see your future videos.
Crazy stuff Rob. I don't know what kind of setup you have currently, but maybe consider getting a small single stack for concealed carry. Just so you always have something available. Stay safe!
Hey Rob - How's it going? A lot of homeless move south when the weather gets cold. It is always a bit of a problem here in Southern Arizona in the winter time. It is easier for them to survive than up north in the deep freeze. Old folks and homeless are both "snowbirds" and fly south for the winter. I would rather camp almost anywhere than in a public campground. Stay Safe. Regards, Randy in Arizona.
Wow, creepy is right !, I like to tip a few but being Drunk and Obnoxious is where I draw the line, you made the only right decision and left to another spot.. Having said that, It was another camping adventure for the books, looking foreword to your next post, All the Best and Happy Trails Robert my friend .
That would have scared me, too. I’m so glad you left. People are getting stranger by the day, with everything that’s going on. I enjoy going camping with you. You are fun sort of guy. I’m a great gram mother and I love going along with all the campers. It is really nice there. Please be safe and always trust your gut feeling. Thanks for sharing, it was fun and interesting. 💕🙋🏻♀️🙏💕
Piece of advice for windshield snow scrapper, fill - windshield washer in spray bottle and spray all over and clean after 5 mints. See the difference 😎
I was anchored out in Florida, of course, and suddenly a man on a canoe knocks on my hull. He strikes up a conversation about his boat life and "war" with the cops because of his use of the mangroves to get ashore. All normal Florida man stuff. Then he says "I'm gonna steal your solar panels tonight, and you're gonna let me. That's how this works." Needless to say, I didn't feel like ending up in legal troubles later, so I pulled anchor and headed out. Mind you, I've been anchored in spots all over the world, and the worst is still Florida.
I'm a recovering drug addict and I'm only speaking from my experience. I hear a lot of people in that community talk about life and death like that guy did to you. A lot of us came so close to death it changes your perspective. It also sounds like he feels extremely guilty for picking up his habit again which is why he talked about not judging others. Not saying he wasn't dangerous bc I feel like you should be wary of everyone when solo camping. Your story just sparked some memories so I wanted to tell you it's not that uncommon for addicts to reflect on life and death. Much love and respect to you
Wow, I've been following your TH-cam channel for some time... never expected you would be in the neighborhood one day! I know exactly where you were in Osceola! I was there this past weekend... after visiting the shooting range near Lake City I stopped by Hog Pen Landing and Olustee Beach on the way home... in Jax. I must say I am totally embarrassed by that "close encounter" you had, but not totally surprised. When I camp there, its usually at Hog Pen Landing, and I sleep with a .357 in my sleeping bag. First two rounds are "Shotshell" or "snake shot"... we have every kind of poisonous snake in the US there is here... from Pigmy to Canebrake, Eastern Diamondback, not to mention Moccasins and Coral snakes... not as bad in the cooler weather (Nov. - Jan.) though. The rest of the chambers are 125 grain hollow points for "predators" ... either two legged or otherwise. Not seen any but there are coyotes in the area, Bobcat and Florida Panthers, but not seen this far north too often. Gators, yes, that too... so it occurred to me when I passed on the "Primitive camping" areas due to some of the more unsavory characters that seem to dwell there, and the actual Nation Park campground has been closed due to Covid for some time lately, so I hadn't been there in a while. Again, so sorry for what you had to endure, but to your audience surely, hopefully, a real eye opener, eh! As always, thanks for sharing! And I'm glad the rest of your trip turned out so much better... 👍
I also met Lucas online. He offered me to come fishing a few years ago and he’s been an amazing friend ever since then. Was actually supposed to be here but couldn’t make it 😢
So glad nothing came of your encounter. But you really should keep a firearm close to you no matter where you are. Too many crazies out there. Stay safe!
I enjoyed Florida while I was there, but thankfully it was mostly corporate apts with stocked lakes and nearby canals or reservoirs. Leave your apt and within 300 feet was a maintained place to fish. I even weathered Hurricane Wilma there once in Ft. Lauderdale. The drive down there it turned dark on me. That was the darkest most deserted highway I have ever passed through, and I have driven all over the US. It was pitch black except for the light from the headlights. Yes, they had weird people, but I never ran into them, and not in the woods thankfully.
You are correct Rob, humans are generally more dangerous than wildlife! And that is exactly why I always carry!! FYI: If it was too cold, the alligators would be in their dens.
Always trust your instincts. Good move. The fact that you were jittery even after making the move confirms you were on to something. /break/ I'm glad I'm not the only one with emergency spaghetti-ohs in my truck! Florida would be nice right now. It's about 3 degrees Fahrenheit, but it keeps out the riff-raff. Americans are blessed with our freedoms. Let us be eternally vigilant against forces that would deny us the freedom to travel, etc.
Your doing exactky what im going to be doing. Ill be in 4 door tacoma 6' 4x4 with shell. Kong cooler for fridge (keeps ice for 10+ days), Mr. Buddy Heater Indoors (Safe for no carbon monoxide), 2,000 Watt Solar Battery (Zendure with 400 watt panels 7hr charge time 3,500 cycles to 80% 4 yr warranty). Putting a bed back there. I need entertainment though. So Ill have usb 24" TV to attach my Hard Drives full of movies, Kindle Reader with books, Small Laptop, Xbox One with offline mode gaming, and also a couple boardgames (Terraforming Mars, Mageknight, Dead of Winter, and a small briefcase full of cardgames, Shadowrun Crossfire with High Calibre Ops, Arkham Horror The Card Game with multiple expansions, great great games for 30-60 min breakfast coffee games especially if it rains. Hammock for setting up near streams to read, gonna be hiking, getting small cocker for companion, bear mace for security with baseball bat, and knife. Thule storage cargo rack ontop of shell for extra 160lbs of food, supplies. Even got my shower situation figured out, 5 gallon Stockpot on campfire with usb rechargeable showerhead, works great tested it in home shower. Also hittin some National Parks for 5 days. Good times!!!!!
Yes, sometimes it's scary to meet people who don't know in what conditions you can find them. As you well say, an animal can be unpredictable but it acts instinctively; no one knows what a person's instinct can be and you have to be very careful. I see that in the end you had a great time, what an envy you give me. Best regards. You started the year well. Greetings from Madrid
sooooo wish I could go that far south in the winter... damn canadian border.. enjoy lad.... also... you still have yer bike? should do a video of a bike camp... I know it's not what your channels aboot.. but content eh...
You met the proverbial Florida man 😂. He may have been messing with you when he saw your truck plates or you may have been too close something he was watching over . National Forest have their issues in the south. Bring your little freezer here in August and we’ll give it a test run.Interesting trip for you . Have a great evening
Nice video again fella, and I don't blame you for moving on in that case.. There would be a lot less nutters walking round the Brecon Beacons for example if you were strapped 👍🏼😂
Always trust that gut feeling or when the hairs on your neck stand up. Stay safe young man!
It’s never the 4 legged critters that weird me out, it’s those kind of people that make me on edge. Stay safe! 👍🏻🇺🇸

Most of FL is full of creepy people.
This is exactly why I always carry protection when I am camping I am not afraid of any of the creatures in the woods but stupid humans are the ones I look out for. I happy you had a good time here in Florida after that weird encounter.
Quite the experience, I’ll bet it is one you will remember. I’m glad to see you are safe!

I just can't seem to escape it - Florida and Creepy in the same sentence, always. It's funny 'cause it's true! 😁 I'm sure I'll comment more later.
Creepy indeed. Glad you made the rest of your camping time enjoyable. Well done.

That guy got what he wanted and that was: you out of his area, welcome to Florida, the further south you go in Florida the wilder it gets.
Yup, I warned him of meth gators. lol.
Commenting on the end of the video first. It was so good seeing you meet up with like minded people. It looked amazing and looked like a super group of people. Another great video brother keep them coming
You’re a true tough outdoors-man and for that encounter to cause you to freak out like that, means that man must’ve really been speaking crazy and he probably looked unhinged as well. I wish you the best and I look forward to seeing more of your content! Cheers!
The freaks are out - unbelievable - I always worry about my youtubers and staying safe out in the woods. Great video - Stay safe
I've never seen eggs cooked that way before. Very intriguing
nice change of pace Robert. I can see how freaked you were, who wouldn't be. Good to carry protection, but having to use it can change your world. Very smart to follow those feelings, Rob...a lesson well learned...peace in good fellowship

Me and the hubby watched tonight. We live in central Florida nice to see the swaying pines. The gut is always right he could’ve been just fine but always listen to the gut. Enjoy our beautiful state.
Funny start to video, great video
Wow! That was a roller-coaster ride.
That peek "into the Fringe"
So glad you landed on your feet Rob.
いつもとは違う風景、森とは違う景色を散策そしてちょっとしたハプニングもあってとても面白かったです。
Man I feel for you! Could hear the fear in your voice bro! So glad you left that spot and went and camped around other people
Robert that was me, I just wanted to have a beer with you😄😅 I'm sure you were much nicer than I would have been tho. Stay safe brother!
Crazy guys out there, Stay safe bro! Greetings from hidden woods in Sweden 🇸🇪
Think you had a lucky escape there.! Great video.
Me too Jackie!
That’s nuts!
Did the right thing there Rob, first and foremost you need to feel safe. Looked like a great gathering at the end though.

Again, so sorry for what you had to endure, but to your audience surely, hopefully, a real eye opener, eh!
As always, thanks for sharing! And I'm glad the rest of your trip turned out so much better... 👍
Sick video! I'm in Florida also! I plan on having my truck camper setup done this weekend and hopefully start doing some camping!
Stay safe!
Dang, you met Florida man!
You can apply for an out-of-state concealed carry permit in Florida. Keep your piece on you when you’re in the sticks.
Thanks for sharing…it has to be known that it’s not always pretty roses when camping
Don’t be worried, your just met Florida man.
Spray your frosted windown with one part water two parts antifreeze, then let sit wipe down.

That’s an awful and creepy thing to happen for sure and I agree-humans can be scary at times! Take care and trust your instincts always

You met the proverbial Florida man 😂. He may have been messing with you when he saw your truck plates or you may have been too close something he was watching over . National Forest have their issues in the south. Bring your little freezer here in August and we’ll give it a test run.Interesting trip for you . Have a great evening
Awesome trip…
There are some crazy mf’rs out there man! I carry concealed everywhere I go and I’m always ready to drop the hammer. Welcome to America!
Nice video again fella, and I don't blame you for moving on in that case.. There would be a lot less nutters walking round the Brecon Beacons for example if you were strapped 👍🏼😂
I just found your channel. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your adventure. New sub too. 😊
You're so right humans are far more likely to kill you than a wild animal. Hopefully you enjoyed the rest of your trip.
could have told you son......don`t head south. stay safe rob.
