I love how clear this is demonstrated Mark! Definitely a winner with these examples of what is different and what we’re looking for at impact. It took me a while to explore how to do this and unlearn what I was doing before pulling my body in the wrong sequence and wrong directions. I’m interested in seeing how these drills will help me refine that feel…

Such an important lesson. Something I am continually working on. When I am putting bad swings on it, poor shoulder tilt is often at the root cause. Even hip sway is often rooted in a flat shoulder turn. Feel how difficult it is to sway your trail hip when properly tilting your shoulders and adding side bend. Great drills.

The idea is to feel like you make contact or direct the energy of your swing past the ball. So in order to not jam yourself, you need to create the space w your tilt. It’s very difficult to do this at full speed if you’re learning for the first time. Think long arms through the ball! But oh man when it’s right and you are fully extended with the driver feels so good. I was able to hit up on it for the first time ever once I figured it out

Ive been doing this drill with a weighted "BodyBar" - think it's 15 lbs and use the rotation and point the end down where the ball would be. The weight increasing the momentum in the rotation which I use to help with mobility and loosening me up at the gym but then I use to fire through as if I'm swinging but no arms involved. Just the hips/shoulder rotation and I get a pretty good workout in the core with this.

This is what Tom Watson did years ago to feel an OTT move. Except in reality his trail shoulder did a 3/4 under turn of his body to force his lower body; lead hip and knee; to get out of his way for his club head to strike directly at and through his ball to the end of his swing. Cheers 👍😃⛳️🥂

You read my mind, with this video. I’ve often wondered why instructors rarely talk about this crucial element of the swing. It’s SO IMPORTANT! You described it exactly the way I try to think about it in my mind. Hip tilt, shoulder tilt, and side bends are the keys to good golf. I would say wrist conditions are a close second. I rarely save a video, but this one is being “saved”. Absolutely brilliant, Mark. Thank you for this. Do an in depth video on wrist conditions, and my life will feel complete. lol These are the two aspects that I focus on in my own head(tilts, and wrists). And, when done correctly, usually result in a round under par.

Good interesting video, ive managed to get down to 5 hcp in my 60s and this is what ive learned! Most golfers confuse the Shoulders (which are the main speed producers, as in any athletic event/other sport you've played well) with the Torso.
Most golfers swing the Clubhead away or pick it up, with their hands and arms then turn their Torso, this is weak and underpowered so they then use their right shoulder at the top to power the clunead at the ball.
Im going to ignore lower body action and ground pressure which is obv vital But focus on the chest/pecs micro seconds early helping activate/load the shoulder joint muscles, the handle is the last thing to move. Both shoulder/pec are turning down around and up,It is this sequencing that keeps the club away from you and ignites your athletic muscles and motion.
Golf is like tapping your head and rubbing your stomach, this action is the head tapping and ground pressure, lowerbody action is the rubbing your stomach!

I think that this information is what is essential for good ball striking. And very few instructors are even aware of it.. As an aside I think DustinJohnson has very interesting takeaway. His left arm/shoulder. moves forward as the backswing starts. It is quite distinctive. He also seems. to rotate his left hand quickly so that the back of the hand faces away from him abdomen right away.I wish you would comment on this. move.

  • @trxe420

Palmer would be proud. I tried to explain this to a friend last year, I was trying to tell him to just point his shoulders at the ball back and through. What I found though is he wasn't flexible enough, simply wasn't in good enough shape. In fact, most the people I play with could probably use with a bit more working out than lessons, you would be surprised at just how inflexible some people are out there.

  • @trevorbeazley7386

Another drill is to use two alignment sticks.
Place one through your loops of pants so it aligns with your hip. Use the second one across shoulder like Mark used in the video. When you complete your turn the shoulder stick has to go under the hip stick.
Rather than think of what everything is doing you’re focusing on the last part, your body naturally tilts to achieve it.
    Shaved strokes and added distance.
Love Marks videos, get excited when I see a new one pop up.

I started doing too much held side bend, and I couldn’t get my club path neutral from in to out. What I did to get a closer to neutral path is simply extend right arm down as I rotated. Made for such simple swing thought and a much straighter and predictable ball flight.

  • @TheflyingkiwiRC

  • @monortues

Another way to think about it is that it helps fix the head position during down swing before impaction. Lowering trail shoulder will help keep some gap between your chin. Your head will less likely move. Makes sense to me.

Right now that left shoulder down move is so huge for me. I thought I wasn't losing posture, but I kept hitting it fat and/or toey. Turns out I was coming out of it a bit in my back swing and then have some early hip extension making it worse.
Feeling like I'm staying more down on the back swing has cleaned up my strike a ton. It feels like a huge move but on camera it's maybe 2cm if that.

Great videos. Really like them. But can you focus more on what to right, rather than what not to do. It makes it too much to take in and I almost miss what I’m supposed to do . Just a friendly observation.

The drill gives you the what to do. Also don’t do what you are not meant to do. 😂😉

That's it. You have to record yourself to improve as well so you can keep trying yourself to get your shoulders to swing at that 45° angle. Majority amateurs swing at 40° or less.
