  • Welcome to this sound bath of improvised minimal modular sonic exploration. This performance was live at the Chapel in Seattle where Modular Seattle and Modular Nights hold performances and this specific event was a warm up to the 2019 Velocity event.
Visuals were by Chris Barth of allotrope ijk. bit.ly/allotro...
This system was quickly put together in the days leading up to the surprise performance with modules, case and cables borrowed from Bradley Millington (Modular Seattle) and David Pawlan (Wabisabi). A huge thanks to them for facilitating and encouraging a performance on a new system and for being so awesome with me pulling modules out of their set ups to do this. I used the same system for my talk and presentation at Velocity as well as for another performance up mount Rainier (video on that soon).
If you’d like a full PDF run down of the set up, patching, intentions, modules used, my ‘zonal’ approach and more. You can support my work on Patreon and gain access to this PDF and other exclusive content. Here - bit.ly/DK-patreon
The ideas of a my 'zonal’ approach to a Eurorack performance system was discussed with examples in the Esoteric Modulation podcast here - bit.ly/EM008 . I’ve also provided a (free) resource going through my own personal iteration of this case and set up with my ‘cosmic space case’ that you can read through here - bit.ly/DivKidLi...

Excellent Ben, and extra points for anyone who can sit cross-legged on the floor for more than 15 minutes without getting cramp!

If you get a cramp because of sitting cross-legged for 15 minutes, you need to start exercising and taking care of your body now. Don't wait until it's too late man.

thanks, was great to meet too. We chatted more outside the substation though if I remember rightly, speaking of our love for the Coma Reactor delay :)
That whole trip was fantastic, I'd love to be able to come out there again.

blown away by the variety of sounds you got from this one patch. you moved it along like every 90-120 seconds.. that's insane. gorgous mix of gritty noise and beds of chords.

Thanks a lot! That was definitely the goal with how I was approaching performing live and improvising around more minimal ambient stuff. Bit daunting on a rig of various people's modules that weren't my own but I was had fun with it.

@@DivKid Yeah, just listened to the EM podcast where you explained the setup and with sound examples. Such a simple idea but so powerful in execution.. Really miss your and Eds talks but totally understand how busy life gets. Cheers for all the time invested in the community over the years.

appreciate that thank you, it's been a and continues to be a lovely thing to be part of. I was chatting to Ed recently and there's a lot in those episodes that I think could be shared further and sort of re used as people find it and realise they missed it all. It's not likely that we'll get anything new going though but ideas always fly around when we chat.

brave stuff preforming on another's rig. Then again you know everything about every module. Found this looking for a generative modular tutorial made by you. You've done two interviews with Ann Annie; no doubt this was brushed upon. Is there a deep dive ONLY about generative y'all or you have done as that being the sole/soul focus. Nice sounds here.
