Personally, I still consider Alessi's interpretation to be my favorite. But I completely understand why many would prefer Jorgen's. Both were equally amazing.
I really appreciated how he didn't take the passage at 5:34 up an octave like Alessi and many other trombonists at that level do. If the composer felt the piece would have been better with that section in that octave, it would have been written that way to begin with, or it would have at least said "opt. 8va". I love Alessi's playing but that's the one thing he does from time to time that really irks me.
I also think that it could also have something to do with the equipment that they choose to play. I think that Jorgen's sound is a bit of a throw back to the glory days of the Conn 88H and the Remington studio sound. Alessi on the other hand is the "new" trombone sound that we hear coming from New York and Chicago. Not that I'm saying that Jorgen isn't progressive in the literature that he chooses to premiere it is just that his tone and playing style are old school. I happen to like both.
Not a copy out (I hope) but I like them about equally for different reasons - Alessi's for the technical perfection and van Rijen's for the emotion and that unbelievable tone. Flip a coin. I'd like to hear a recording of James Markey playing this as well.
Respond to this video... I actually like this more than I like Alessi's version.... Alessi sounds a bit too neutral for my taste... This guy's got passion. I'm lovin' the massive dynamic contrast.
i've never seen someone trilling the f like that! this version sounds so light and easy, much better than alessi's... (but i also liked alessis pianist better)
I have Trudel's version, who is really amazing with french pieces and I must say that I still prefer his version than this one. However, Jörgen van Rijen did and extraordinary job there, and I think the difference is really because of the pianist who, although he is pretty good, doesn't feel as good as Mr. Rijen feels it.
Very good. My only complaint, which is shared by some more is his movement. When a professional can play as well as this, they can do whatever the hell they want, but frankly, I feel like his movement interferes with stage presence and sound projection. I'm almost getting a Doppler effect from the way the mics picked up his sound. That's my only complaint. The performance otherwise was spectacular.
He NAILED the ending. Holy shit...
A phenomenal trombonist. An amazing sound, so clear and powerful in every register.
This guy has his place on the tier. He is the principle trombonist of the RCO, which is universally regarded as the best orchestra in the world.
Thanks ! No one has been talking about our great composer Joseph-Guy Ropartz from Brittany ,please do not forget that !!!
This made me cry.... Such passion and beauty I don't know how to handle it...
I'm going to have to buy this piece...... Oh my god.
right there with you brother/sister/sibling
I love his tone quality. It isn't as strong as Alessi's, but Rijen's is very personalized and unique. Thumbs up!
But it is ever so much more a highly refined classic tenor tromhone sound.
what a beautiful and inspiring performance
Greatest piece for trombone i've ever heard, and the soloist pulls it off perfectly
One of the greatest players
かっこよすぎ!リスペクトです!
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe Jorgen performed it better that Alessi
Personally, I still consider Alessi's interpretation to be my favorite. But I completely understand why many would prefer Jorgen's. Both were equally amazing.
+Will Stephens Alessi's is technically amazing, particularly his breath control, but I find this one more moving
+Will Stephens Both different players, but I like Jorgen more also. And not because i'm Dutch too ;-)
Unpopular? Both are great performers so in comparison, it just comes down to preference

And that my friend is how you make a musical phrase!
Jorgen van rijen the best

Facts, Alessi sounds like a machine, Jorgen is singing!
Amazing.....very expressive.
Tio eres un crack del trombón.
Tu te mereces mar que un “like".
This guy has a freaking soul, like a boss.
I'd like to thank the pianist for making a fucking beautiful accompaniment.
Underrated comment
@@BrianJohnstonTrombone most definitely. Having a "freaking soul, like a boss" should be all our lives' dream. I love it! :)

This is beautiful, and to compare to anyone else means you have no idea what you're talking about.
@Supersamazing - Have you heard Ronald Barron's version on LE TROMBONE FRANCAIS? That's a pretty hot one too. Good job Jorgen!!
The best!
you guys know there are other good trombonists besides jorgen, alessi, and lindberg right?
Ian Bousfield and Peter Steiner are very good ones
Denson Paul Pollard, Zoltan Kiss
Amazing!

Bravo!!!👏👏👏👏
Bravo! A very moving musical performance very sensitively played! A Courtois Trombone? What mouthpiece ?
Courtois legend 420. I have the exact same trombone. It was extremely good. Mouthpiece I'm not sure 😢
Fantástico, quanta música ele faz...Bravo
Time to learn tenor clef.
I like tenor clef. It's like transposing Bb treble clef, which I've been doing since 7th grade.
For real lol
Excelente!!!!!!!
@tinkerbell09ization Jörgen's weapon of choice is made by Courtois.
gran interpretación xd
Is that a Blessing? Because if it is, then I have the same trombone.
look up Jörgen van Rijen ropartz on youtube and theres a way better quality version of this with only 600 views..
i've never seen someone trilling the f like that!

oh, Steinway also builds toy pianos, didn't know that 😱
wonder what he moves like when he plays jazz...
i thought his trombone was yamaha?\
Marc Vela I think it’s Bach
Trombone Antoine Courtois
He dances more than joe
Joe didn't dance. Joe's eyebrows were dancing

Samuel Gagnon do you know where i could find the trudel recording of this? i’m curious to hear how he handles it
