Agree on screen counts in China, however the motivation to build them stem from preserving and spreading Chinese culture only. Agree with all of your points completely. The first set of problems began probably in the mid 80's with video (and later Satellite, and now OTT) taking over, but that was a phenomenon that was seen across all industries. I feel the main problem was that Bollywood tapping heavily into the Multiplex Space (making Multiplex-oriented films primarily from the 2000s). Multiplex got priority over Single-screens, which both meant the loss of cinema-going habit for the common man. Once that happened, then you have problems with Cinema's having to decide between increasing rates or struggling to renovate and keep up with the times, which further worsened the problem. This continued since then, and with that, single-screen penetration is definitely not what it once was, making it harder for the common-man to watch films at the theatre. As you mentioned, blockbuster films now only have a typical range of 3-4 Cr, whereas in the 60s-90s it was upwards of 4-7 cr, with some All Time Blockbusters doing upwards of 10+ cr footfalls. Blockbuster films cannot generate the audience it once could (solely due to current cinema-infrastructure) nor can a typical low/medium budget be dependable to generate profits. I think the solution should start from the Industry itself. We should examine what some of the regional South Indian Industries (for instance, the Telugu and the Tamil Film Industry) and look at their model of films. Study how they incorporate aspects of traditional Indian-masala based cinema into their films to excite the audience, and see how that can be utilized in Hindi films. The answer should be to make more films (in general) for consistent revenue and footfalls and more of these films should appeal to the mass audience. We've seen with films like Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan, Animal, and recently Stree that these films do well universally (Multiplexes or Single-Screens, Big-cities or Small-cities). It probably is more worthwhile to make films that appeal to the wider-audience than a certain section of an audience (atleast from a Box-Office perspective). When you have a consistent generation of revenue, then I feel exhibitors won't have that pressure to hike ticket prices. And lower ticket prices will only add to cinema-going culture. The deeper problem may be that the culture in the Industry has shifted to making more urban-oriented films for the last 20-25 years. Most of the filmmakers prefer and or feel more comfortable making that type of film (perhaps due to relatability). Perhaps the Industry may need to collaborate with south directors, and hopefully the Hindi directors take inspiration and dabble more into the mass-zone. This way, there may be slowly transition into a more stable culture where all types of cinema is created for both Cinemas to survive and hopefully grow, and all sections of the wider-audience receive the entertainment they're looking for. The more fortunate news is that a lot of this started to happen recently, and we are seeing more collaboration between Hindi Stars and South Directors, and seeing a lot more universally-appealing films starting to be made and released into the future. Between all of the Horror-Comedy films being started right now + franchises/sequels + action films being made right now for a release in the next couple years, I think there is definitely a change that is happening. Obviously we'll see on what transpires, and whether there will be more films being released in the theatres in upcoming years.

The problem with lesser screens are also that log nahi jaate cinema dekhne theatres me ganv ya block me. Wo culture banana v jaruri hai, Tire 2/Tire 3 cities me still cinemas hai but ye v check karna chahiye ki unka average footfall kitna hai for a movie. Ek aur karan, cinemas expand nahi kar rha qki waise movies nahi banti hai ab, Massy/Entertaining types. 2000 ke pehle Almost all movies were having family drama, emotional connect and action etc. jo general public ko achha lagta tha to log cinema jate the ab waisa nhi hai.
