I’m a plasterer and you need to do 50% white pain and 50% water mix together then paint the new plasterwork 3 times then out a colour on the wall 😀😀 loving the vids guys!!
You look at the colour of the white wall as you need to white wash the plaster wall before painting so it doesn't keep eating your paint 🙂 I get what you mean with Grey as it always looks different when it's on a wall or different rooms. I bought Chic shadow and mixed 3/4 tub with alot of white and I have a lovely light grey colour now. xx
Anyone else remember the old house vlogs when Carys was obsessed with getting new doors? Literally waiting for the vlog called ‘getting new doors for our new house’ 😂 Love these reno vlogs, the house is going to look incredible when it’s done 💛
Hear me out...I agree that dark green wouldn’t be right in the en-suite but it would look FAB in the main bathroom with the wood accents and marble tiles...love you guys, you’re getting me through lockdown!! ❤️
I think it’s amazing how motivated this house has made you. I feel like in the old house they would spend most of the time just sitting around, or always going out to do things. But here they’re both so creative, and constantly working on things.
White wash the plaster wall, to prime it!! The colours look different on there because the plaster is basically eating the paint!! Love the dark graphite for the en-suite...your house is going to be so beautiful!💛
I absolutely love how Mila holds a shoe in her mouth when she gets excited.... better get use to waking up early to prepare yourself for your future babies lol... I think now that the floors are getting done Carys is going to change out the doors 🚪 😄. Also I’m not too sure if they do it where you are but where I am they can make a paint clot for you by mixing the paints together and make it the colour you want , so Carys go to the store and tell them you want one in between those two paints .
The floor looks really good!! 🥰 love it! The wall that is plastered will need to be 50/50 with white paint and water, then paint that wall 2/3 times with that mixture. Then put your colour on. 😊 I've got Cornflower white in my kitchen and it's a Blue/Grey. The only grey I have is Warm Puter, that would be too dark. 😘
I love the floors and what you guys have decided to do with the whits wash. Our new home had a fireplace that had an orange colored brick on it and we did the whits wash on it and it has turned out so beautiful. I can not wait to see it when it is finished. I will say that it is time to order a new rug for the front entrance that will match the floor when they are done. Maybe something custom made with your last name on it. IdK but I love everything you guys are doing.
I just found out when we were painting our last condo that you can ask for a color at different %. Like if you like a color but wish it was lighter you can ask for it to be 50%, etc. Game changer!
The paint soaks into a newly plastered wall, so you need to look at the colour on the white wall, thats what the true colour is. You usually paint a newly plastered wall with a white wash before you paint it the actual colour you want. hope that helps you
Loving all the renovation vlogs. You'll need to prime the plaster walls before painting in the final colour. Loving the grey colour think it'll go lovely with the tile. Xx
If you find the right shade or tone of grey paint and it is too dark you can always just lighten it by adding white emulsion ...hope you find the perfect one
We’ve just painted our lounge in rock salt, it’s such a subtle off white/grey. In some lights it looks white and in others you can see the grey, we love it and I think it will go perfectly in your bathroom, especially against the tiles ☺️
If you can’t find the colour you want for your other bathroom, try mixing your own. You can get sample canisters and mix different amounts of the paints you like to make your own grey/white and then have them colour match at the dulux store.
Walls have to be primed with water based primer and water based paints in wet areas to prevent moisture getting through the plaster and mould buildup. Go for the color based off the white walls.
B&Q valspar - Grey morn has been a great colour for us. It’s a true grey rather than a blue grey but very pale. They will look so different where you have them on plaster and a white wall so the testers on the plaster won’t be a true colour ☺️ xx
I have dulux pebble shore in my spare room and it's like a light grey/brown. I have brown bedding but silver photo frames etc in the room if that helps at all. It's a unique colour to try and describe xx
Plaster needs a white wash/water mix on the wall before you paint it so the plaster can absorb that layer instead of your final paint layer. Think it stops cracking?
I think in the guest bath that if you go cool toned, it’s going to look grungy/dirty and green in contrast to the warm toned wood. Go slightly warm toned with your grey!
Paint on raw plaster will always look different. You need to white wash plaster 50/50 mix and do a few coats otherwise your paint won’t stay on. Then test the colours on the new (50 paint/50 water) walls. Personally id spend and get a professional painter in. They will do an amazing job and will not charge a huge amount for the time it takes them!
In my house I have rock salt in my bedroom and it's so fresh. It's not overly grey but it's off white, hint of grey. In my kitchen I have polished pebble and that's a little grey. It's gorgeous. Also if you're struggling with a particular grey. Why don't you you mix your own grey.
I think you need to do a layer of watered down white paint on the plaster first before you go in with your colour on top, just to seal everything in! :)
The bathroom would look good with maybe these greys? Zoffany - Paris Grey Farrow & Ball - Ammonite Good luck, James and Carys, it really does look incredible! X
If you want the same colour as your bedroom curtains, take a curtain with you to the shop and they’ll colour match it for you. Loving you new bathroom x
I would do number 3 of the original colors. It's very soft and a little warmer, which would accent the cooler toned tiling you have within the bathroom.
The floor already looked amazing, can't wait for the result! Maybe you could paint the doors white, I think it would look very pretty in combination with the white walls and the white wash floor. And I think if you paint the bathroom dark grey it will look very small, I suggest for both of them light grey of maybe taupe/beige/sandy? But I just hope you're going to be very happy with the end result! Good luck with everything!
I love you guys so much. You have become the only people I watch on TH-cam! Your house, your embroidery, Mila, your relationship, everything just makes me happy when I watch. Keep doing what you love!❤️
The beginning of this is me everyday for work at 6am 😂😂 it’s draining!! It’s cracking me up you guys left it till the day to move everything 😂 (I see the new bedroom furniture and love it! Also loving the bathrooms so far!!)
Oh gosh , hope you did get some help from the paint supplier about newly plastered walls and paint for bathrooms xx Looking forward to the reveal. Stay safe stay well xxx
Just an FYI, if you have any vents on the floor, make sure that they plug them up otherwise all that sawdust will get into the vents and will wreak havoc. Good luck!
We just decorated our lounge and had the same battle for wanting a pale pale grey. We got “grey morn” from the valspar counter in B&q and I’m obsessed, it’s a gorgeous pale grey xx
I have taken a pillow into the paint store and asked one of the gentlemen that worked there to help find a similar color and it turned out really well. You could always take your curtain in and do the same.
Try dove grey, that would look great in the bathroom the plastered wall will need to be sealed first with a wash of watered down white then a proper white so the proper colour you will get is on the white wall not the plastered wall at the moment
I know it’s probably too late now as you said at the end but If you’re wanting a really really light grey I recently tried the dulux polished pebble and it’s so subtle and light but still makes white features pop And I feel like that’s kinda the colour you was describing x
You need to prime the plastered wall. But other than that, it is the same color but an optical illusion ifluenced by the color around the patches. Whatever you chose, it will look different when all is painted in one color.
Why don't you get a grey tub of paint and add white paint to lighten it till you like the shade. That's what I did for my bedroom, a nice grey for my main wall and a very light grey for the rest :)
Grey's are really hard. It took me 2 weeks to figure out what I wanted on the exterior of my house. If there is a color you like, but it is too dark or light, the color can be reduced or increased by %'s. For example, I decreased my siding color by 25%, and it was perfect.
I would do a pretty wall paper with golds in it in the main bathroom up stairs like a accent wall :) can’t wait to see the floors long time subbie here ,, hello from Oklahoma
James should get a curl gel for his hair!!! Put a small amount in his curls after washing his hair and it'll help keep the curls for longer and look more defined! Get a little spray bottle with water in (could add a bit of conditioner to help the curls also) for whenever his hair goes frizzy and spray them to get the curls back again, can use the gel again at this point for definition 🥳🥳🥳
There’s a process called threading wood when laying or restoring wood floors. The different parts of wood flooring could have been threaded wood if the floors were previously restored!
The biggest positive of Coronavirus was finding your channels! I can’t imagine not watching your videos now.
I’m a plasterer and you need to do 50% white pain and 50% water mix together then paint the new plasterwork 3 times then out a colour on the wall 😀😀 loving the vids guys!!
OMG I'M SO EXCITED YOU'RE GOING FOR THE DARK GRAPHITE!!!!! YAAAAAY! Stepping out of your comfort zone and I can't wait to see it, will be lovely xx
You look at the colour of the white wall as you need to white wash the plaster wall before painting so it doesn't keep eating your paint 🙂 I get what you mean with Grey as it always looks different when it's on a wall or different rooms. you need to prime the plastered wall to get a more accurate color comparison in your master bath
Yes! Prime the wall
Ok- I can’t help but imagine how perfect your interior doors would be if they were black🥰 especially with the new floors! Allll the rustic vibes! 😂💕
Polished Pebble by Dulux is a really nice light warm grey with brown undertones rather than blue/purple x
I think it’s amazing how motivated this house has made you. I feel like in the old house they would spend most of the time just sitting around, or always going out to do things. But here they’re both so creative, and constantly working on things.

James should definitely try the ‘curly girl method’ on his hair it helps define curls sooooo well
I absolutely love how Mila holds a shoe in her mouth when she gets excited.... better get use to waking up early to prepare yourself for your future babies lol... I think now that the floors are getting done Carys is going to change out the doors 🚪 😄. 😘
Jaymes & Carys! Now that the floors will be much lighter I think you should paint the doors black! Unless you plan to sand the doors🤔 love you guys xo
Make your own gray! Add a gray tone you like to a white base. Shake it/stir it up and make your own!!
Then it will be a lighter gray
house is coming together so well!!! you should defo consider changing the doors. black doors could look really elegant!
I love the floors and what you guys have decided to do with the whits wash. Crown cloud burst is a lovely grey I have in my house. Looks dark when you first paint it on but then goes light when it drys
Loving all the renovation vlogs. You'll need to prime the plaster walls before painting in the final colour. Loving the grey colour think it'll go lovely with the tile. Xx
I really like 1&3 in the main bath room, it reminds me of your canvases, neutral and nice in the main especially with ur decor
Rust oleum in winter grey! It’s such a subtle grey almost white
If you find the right shade or tone of grey paint and it is too dark you can always just lighten it by adding white emulsion ...hope you find the perfect one
We used mink frost by velspar and we loved it! It can match with both neutral and grey furnishings xxx
All depends whether you’re going to pre paint the plaster. Paint it all white and then paint the back wall like a pale sage green
If you’re looking for a beautiful light grey I highly recommend polished pebble delux!! 😀
we just painted our bathroom rock salt and it's amazing! such a bright white with slight grey undertones. It really brightened our bathroom. Love it!
I think number 2 from the testers on the wall because it has a green tinge and will look good with the plants in there!

I have rock salt in my kitchen and a really light cool tones grey - it’s so close to white and lovely!
I’m literally just obsessed with watching these vlogs - they’re my favourite thing😩 Anybody else?!🤩💗
I think in the guest bath that if you go cool toned, it’s going to look grungy/dirty and green in contrast to the warm toned wood. Go slightly warm toned with your grey!
Polished pebble is light grey.. I have in my living room and whole house. Took us ages to find a light grey
I have rock salt in my bedroom and it’s really nice, it’s quite a light grey with a very small hint of blue
I love the 4th grey colour too however you can also do 1/2 or 1/4 strengths in the colours to keep the tone you like but to lighten the shade :)
I think a light gray-toned sage green in the larger bathroom would look stunning.
Paint on raw plaster will always look different. You need to white wash plaster 50/50 mix and do a few coats otherwise your paint won’t stay on. Then test the colours on the new (50 paint/50 water) walls. Personally id spend and get a professional painter in. I used the rocksalt dulux bathroom paint colour in our utility and its a super subtle off-white grey colour. Its really nice. Xxx
Paint the plaster walls white first then put your tester paints on the white paint and it should match the other walls xxxx
I think you need to do a layer of watered down white paint on the plaster first before you go in with your colour on top, just to seal everything in! :)
Give the plastered wall a white wash! Apparently the plaster soaks up certain paints and makes it peely so deffo go over it with white first! 😘
The bathroom would look good with maybe these greys?
Zoffany - Paris Grey
Farrow & Ball - Ammonite
Good luck, James and Carys, it really does look incredible! X
The way Carys says milk is like the dutch way XD "melk"
If you want the same colour as your bedroom curtains, take a curtain with you to the shop and they’ll colour match it for you. Loving you new bathroom x
I would do number 3 of the original colors. It's very soft and a little warmer, which would accent the cooler toned tiling you have within the bathroom.
Every room has different lighting so colours will look different in every room and colours look different with a white base 💗
Ship lap white from the magnolia paint collection (chip and Joanna Gaines) looks white w/ a hint of grey. Very beautiful paint
Try Frenchic paint in the colour Swanky Pants! We just repainted our kitchen in the colour and it’s a beautiful light grey colour!! 💕💕
Dulux polishes pebble is a really nice light grey
Deluxe chic shadow is the grey you could be looking for x
You will have to paint the plaster board white first to get the colour to be the same as the wall with the testers 😉
The beginning of this is me everyday for work at 6am 😂😂 it’s draining!! It’s cracking me up you guys left it till the day to move everything 😂 (I see the new bedroom furniture and love it! Also loving the bathrooms so far!!)
We have Rock Salt in or main bathroom our unit is graphite . Really nice i would go for Rock Salt
Oh gosh , hope you did get some help from the paint supplier about newly plastered walls and paint for bathrooms xx
Looking forward to the reveal. Stay safe stay well xxx
Sherwin Williams Light French Gray is a true light cool gray.
Online by sherwin-Williams is my favorite grey and exactly like your taking about!
Try Dulux "Brume Half" if you want a really nice pale almost white grey!!!
Dulux goose down is a really nice grey, I have it my room and I looks the same on all four walls
Just an FYI, if you have any vents on the floor, make sure that they plug them up otherwise all that sawdust will get into the vents and will wreak havoc. Good luck!
Cannot wait to see the finished rooms!! Much love!!
We just decorated our lounge and had the same battle for wanting a pale pale grey. We got “grey morn” from the valspar counter in B&q and I’m obsessed, it’s a gorgeous pale grey xx
We're trying to find the perfect grey for our hallway. Just looked up grey morn and definitely getting a tester pot. Looks perfect so huge thanks!!! 😀
Literally waking up waiting for your videos ! ILY from SA🇿🇦
Polished pebble (Dulux) is a nice light grey
We have light grey in our house. Best light grey is polished pebble. Lush!!
I have taken a pillow into the paint store and asked one of the gentlemen that worked there to help find a similar color and it turned out really well. You could always take your curtain in and do the same.

What about a soft deep olive green ? Like Dulux color double duty (DLX1030-7 | LRV: 13)
Pleaseeee do the dark graphite !!! It will look SO good
You need to prime the plastered wall. But other than that, it is the same color but an optical illusion ifluenced by the color around the patches. Whatever you chose, it will look different when all is painted in one color.
They are just the best at renovation vlogs.
Why don't you get a grey tub of paint and add white paint to lighten it till you like the shade. That's what I did for my bedroom, a nice grey for my main wall and a very light grey for the rest :)
Paint the plaster wall white first. Then paint over both with your color choice
You’ll need to white wash / prime the plaster wall anyway then paint the colour your after xx
You should try “Summers Gray” for the main bathroom!! It’s still a light color but has the perfect gray undertone!!
Grey's are really hard. It took me 2 weeks to figure out what I wanted on the exterior of my house. If there is a color you like, but it is too dark or light, the color can be reduced or increased by %'s. For example, I decreased my siding color by 25%, and it was perfect.
I've managed to get light grey for my room, took me forever to find the perfect one! its deluxe or just Homebase range I think x
I would do a pretty wall paper with golds in it in the main bathroom up stairs like a accent wall :) can’t wait to see the floors long time subbie here ,, hello from Oklahoma
Are you going to be matching the doors with floors?
James should get a curl gel for his hair!!! Put a small amount in his curls after washing his hair and it'll help keep the curls for longer and look more defined! Get a little spray bottle with water in (could add a bit of conditioner to help the curls also) for whenever his hair goes frizzy and spray them to get the curls back again, can use the gel again at this point for definition 🥳🥳🥳
Go to a B&Q with a Valspa mixing and choose colours that you like (take in samples bigger then a 5p ) and get them colour matched 💕
U should pick a grey u lime and get it mixed in a paint shop...u said u wanna grey like your curtain
Sorry if I missed it but are you changing the door colours now the floor won't match?
Hi Both, I have just purchased the colour mercury from b and q, its perfect, very light grey, try it
Sad that the suggestion will be too late but has the paint shop suggested taking that paint and mixing “down” to get the custom color that you want?
I actually think the big bathroom would look amazing just plain white. It would look like a fancy spa
There’s a process called threading wood when laying or restoring wood floors. The different parts of wood flooring could have been threaded wood if the floors were previously restored!
Could always colour match your curtains for the paint
So pleased you are going with the graphite colour in bathroom it will look lovely... X
So glad you’re going to try the dark graphite! I think you’ll love it when you see it ❤️
