At first I was sure I wouldn't watch a 30 minute videos, even if it's about my two favourite topics in the world: doctor who and books. I'm so happy I was wrong! Loved being "buried under books" with your collection :)

I'm hoping to be "buried under books" to this degree someday! I must admit I have only dipped my toe into expanded media from time to time over the years, but I'm now firmly committed to eventually getting through Big Finish and BBC Books. I'm curious about the Virgin New Adventures too, but that's on the back burner. The NuWho era has always appealed slightly less to me (outside of the show itself, which is usually brilliant), but your enthusiasm for that range of books makes me interested in that too! Not enough time for everything!

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Time is indeed the problem. I get so little reading time these days that basically I’m fully expecting to have to get to retirement before I get a chance to read most of these 😄

@@CulturePhilter I read a few BBC EDAs in 2002 or so, but they were all from when the Doctor had lost his memory so I felt like I was missing a big chunk of the story or any context for the companions -- plus these books were so hard to find in the U.S. I didn't bother trying to keep up! As a collector, my white whale was the complete range of U.S. classic series DVDs, which I finally collected a couple years back. My next goal, which I only started this year, is to listen to the entire Big Finish Monthly Range... in order!

I have a Theory that the reason we got so many Martha books is not only that increased their output due to the success of the Tennant Rose books but because Donna wasn't agreed on for series 4 till quite late as told in the writers tale.

I’m still working my way through the EDAs myself, loved stuff like the eight doctors, body snatchers and war of the Daleks. After that I’ve read a few in random order like fall of yquatin and Gallifrey chronicles which I also love. I just love anything eighth Doctor, I’d say my working through his series slowed when I discovered big finish but still fascinating reading. Also loved a lot of the new series novels which were the first novels of who I got into and lead to me going back to try the EDA

Buried under books! Loved this video, felt very nostalgic when you went through the Tennant books. I'm not as much of an avid reader as I was back then as a child, but I do still listen to the audiobooks from that era; especially the ones read by David Tennant! There are a few original audio books from that run too: Pest Control, Day of the Troll and Dead Air being the best of them imo, definitely worth checking out.
I've always wanted to check out the EDAs but I'm a little daunted, hoping that someone will be selling The Eight Doctors and Vampire Science at LFCC in the summer. Looking forward to your dvd collection in 2022 😆

1979 Reprint of Dalek Invasion of Earth
    1982 Reprint of The Moonbase
    Art of Destruction
    The Resurrection Casket
    Wishing Well
    Wetworld
    The Peacemaker
    The Pirate Loop
    Forever Autumn
    The Scratchman
The Knight, the Fool, and the Dead

It was a Christmas present about a decade ago so I’m afraid I have no idea where they got it from. I think it might be a print of an Bansky so maybe just google Banksy Batman and you might find somewhere selling it 🤷‍♂️

@@CulturePhilter OK cus I've noticed lots of ppl moaning about it. I'm not keen on it I think they don't really need to use pronouns and what ppl are. I just hope this Dr is good..

@@carloszarzoso1724 I bet you use pronouns while speaking every single day.
      Everybody does and always have.
“Where John?” “Oh he went down the shops” second word of that reply is a pronoun.

@@CulturePhilter? No like when Donna noble son Jamie uses the name rose but didn't want to use he of she. I don't understand it how are we ment to know if someone is a they them, he her, she he, she her. If you get it wrong that person gets upset. That's what I ment.

@@carloszarzoso1724 - it’s Donna’s daughter, Rose. There is no need to deadname her. And you know she uses ‘She’ pronouns because the episode tells you that. Once you know it’s not that difficult to use them.
When people make genuine mistakes, as indeed Rose’s gran does in the first special, or people genuinely don’t know people usually don’t get angry but they do of course correct. So that the person can learn and get it right next time. People make mistakes with no ill intent. That’s ok.
What isn’t ok is if you do it deliberately, if you deliberately dead-name or deliberately mis-gender when you know what they identify as.
