Hi Bruce, Raining & gloomy here during the holidays but the day after people in grocery store less stressed. High hope for transitional house in Buleleng for people needing mental health services and education, especially on avoiding the triggers & relapse for substance abusers, homeless, or anybody else that has hit bottom. Mandate fines from major drug busts in Bali to contribute to funding of half-way house. Stay safe. Great shirt!

Hey Liz. I don't mind the rain as much as the dark and gloomy days. Yes, I really hope the house goes through. Funding from drug busts would be welcomed. Take care and happy new year.

Bruce, you are spot on regarding the tunnel issues. As someone who has 38 years associated with underground water, large scale construction, this project is doomed to fail. The cost of drilling and water intrusion from the ocean and rising sea levels will simply be disastrous. Can you imagine if Russia gets involved with the financing of this project and others like this. WOW the face of Bali will seriously change very quickly. The overall cost will result in $Billions of USD$ which would be more than Bali's GDP.

Hi Silvio. As you know, these kinds of construction projects are not my specialty so thanks for the comment. This project just seems to be too massive in terms of construction and financing with the hope that it will solve Bali's traffic problems. And yes, a subway system here (should it ever happen) will change the face of Bali. Oh well, that is going to be something that Zoey's generation will have to deal with. Take care and happy holidays.

Just binge catching up on your last 18 days. My device has been out of action. Heaps of rain in Mataram Lombok, I have been here permanently for now 6 wet seasons, this is the wettest I have seen.

Hi Peter. I'll have to binge catch up on comments. I hope your device has recovered well. Thanks for the update on the weather in Lombok. Seems like the deluge has arrived. Take care.

Bruce A train line/MRT anywhere in Bali will never happen. The issues are to complex and unrealistic.
Sorry to sound pessimistic but I have heared endless delusional initiatives that went nowhere in Bali for 4 decades. Endemic corruption is the first hurdle. Balis issues with dangerous chaotic traffic and appalling trashing and rubbish management has been unhinged for years and has now become unsolvable. It's a basket case worsening week by week.

Can't agree more!!!I you can't handle simple issues such as waste management and or mass flooding, how the hell will they build this. Ripe for corruption... Never evah happen

Thanks, Mark. Yes, I hate to be pessimistic too. I made a reply down below about the projects over the years that never happened. Anyone for the airport? We were just talking about the trash here in "downtown" Singaraja and how once upon a time decades ago, the buildings were freshly painted, parking was controlled and the sidewalks were walkable. Just got back from a walk, and it is sad how messy the street is. Maybe the tourists who were taking photos of the trash on the sidewalk will post them and they'll go viral and things will change. Take care.

@@markthomas7132 pessimistic or optimistic, the history of broken promises never lies. Until this day they are repairing the Bedugul highway from landslides. One would think that's the first step. They built the new road, landslides came and ruined it, and are now rebuilding what was ruined. In my village the grass cutter instead of picking up plastic bags on the road side, he cuts the 1 bag into ten pieces. I asked the authorities to think logically and pick up the plastic first. Nothing has changed. Their response was we don't have the authority to change the schedule... REALLY!!! Any major project is ripe with corruption, lack of work ethic or discipline. Balinese always on time for coffee breaks and lunch time.

No flooding here in Candidasa, but we seem to have slightly different weather patterns than other places. It may have something to do with the mountain range surrounding us.

So many pessimism but understandable indeed. However If - mind the capital I - it ever could happen it is now. There is money to be spend do not underestimate the power of money. Also, of course Cemagi was never going to be the endpoint. It is the border of Badung with Tabanan but just next door is Nuanu city. Good old Sergei was not going to be left out and will get his private tube station even if he has to dig it with his own hands. Let's stay positive.

Hi tuanbe. Yes, I hate to be pessimistic, but how many projects have been announced and then quietly forgotten? We had government guys in our kampung 10 years ago or so. They were going to change the whole kampung and the ex-harbor into a tourist attraction. They had architectural drawings of what things would look like and then never saw them again. Regardless of the money, the engineering on a volcanic island with regular earthquakes? But, I'll just wait and see how this pans out. Good one about Sergei. Take care.

The traffic from Candi Dasa through to Sanur -AKA the island highway- is a commercial truck infested gong show. A subway or LRT system from Sanur to Padang Bali or through to Candi Dasa is as necessary as a line to Ubud or Tanah Lot. Definitely start with a line from the airport to Kuta/Seminyak,however. Bali is a nightmare to drive wherever you are with exception of the extreme north and east of the island.

    • @BrucePohlmann
      @BrucePohlmann  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Thanks, Round. As you mentioned, the driving up here in the north is still not too bad, which is one good reason to live here. As far as subways go, I'd like to see how this is going to work out in terms of financing and construction issues. Take care and happy holidays.

    Subway:
Ha-ha. The Indonesians never disappoint with their shenanigans.
    1. Harry Tanoe, a politically well connected Javanese business man has for a long time tried to develop this piece of land. Remember the Trump resort plans over there?
    2. Then by a stroke of luck the Balinese are coming to buy back the land they sold off very cheaply -- now for the very handsome price of 5.5 trillion rupiah (USD 340 million).
    3. Now because the Balinese do not have that sort of money at hand, it sounds like the Chinese working in the background will be the paymasters and hence in control.
