I have never tasted a yellow fin, but I know that red fins are amazing. I always eat a lot of them in the summer
Yellow perch taste like small delicious walleye. Yellow perch may be the BEST tasting fish that you can catch in the Midwest and Great Lakes.

Went to Canada this past summer to visit family. Brought my pole since we would be around so much water and caught my first perch plus several more. Very excited to catch such a pretty fish

Diversey harbor is good for perch as well. Another good spot is is off of lakeshore dr and recreation drive. In the horseshoe across from the boat docks is a metal pier along the wall to fish off of. A small hair jig and wax worm will work for a ton of different species. There is parking but now you have to pay (wasn't that way when I was kid).

It has been an out of the norm great winter season for perch. Big trout and Cohos are the next thing to come close to shore. Got a nice 5 lb brown trout on Saturday. Beginning of March we start getting bigger numbers all along the Chicago shoreline. Give it a shot!

False. I live over west. You hear shots down south up north and over east everyday. You think the 228 people were shot silently this year. And for you to say it isn't bad is just a joke...
Pretty nice side of town in Chicago, not likely to hear gunshots. More likely to hear gunshots out in the burbs (goose hunters in the fields). Dont believe everything you hear on the news. Most of the shooting in the city goes on in the gang ridden areas. Steer clear of those areas and Chicago is a really nice city.
Only in West and South side of Chicago.
Chicago is really safe, by that I mean extremely.
Just don't get lost into the West and South sides, it is extremely sketchy

That has always been a great perch spot. I remember back before they redeveloped Navy Pier you could fish through holes in the pavement.

When I used to work downtown I was working at Navy Pier at 2 AM in the morning. Probably May or June right where you are fishing for the perch there were thousands of massive carp. They must have been spawning, I have never seen anything like it. Love the videos keep it up.
I use to perch fish the lake back in the 70's-80's. I fished mainly from the old armory pier (which is gone now) up to Oak St. Beach off the concrete. Olive Park terrace was a hot spot back then. We would catch 100 a day sometimes. We would use a seine in the Des Plains river and catch soft shell crawfish and pinkies with maggots for bait.

One of my "holdout cutters" that goes in just about everything is one of those little P38 can openers that fold flat - came in handy when I ended with a crazy long layover at the train station there in Chicago. :D
People forget about the urban fishing opportunities. It was cool to see you get excited catching little perch instead of ten pound bass.

My dad grew up in Chicago, he been fishing lake Michigan for years and he caught everything in that lake.
Try the cooling pond at NU in Evanston. People do snag trout and salmon from the bridge, but the heating plant for NU keeps the water open most of the time.
