My Hysteroscopy Procedure/Experience

  • Hi All,
    Here is a video explaining what my hysteroscopy procedure was like.
    A hysteroscopy is a procedure that uses a hysteroscope to look inside the uterus to check for any abnormalities like, fibroids, polyps or adhesions. It uses a camera to take a better look at what is going on inside the uterus. If there are abnormalities, a doctor can then perform a polypectomy to remove the abnormalities.
    A hysteroscopy can be done under general or local anesthesia. Most women do it under local. I did mine under local mainly so that I can look at the monitor to see the images that the camera was capturing and ask questions as the doctor did the procedure.
    A hysteroscopy is a must especially if a woman has suspected polyps or fibroids from an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) or SHG (sonohysterogram or saline ultrasound). A removal of polyps or fibroids are protocol especially for women who are going to do IUI or IVF.
    Hope this helped! And please LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE!!
    Thanks and God bless!
    Connie

    Hi! I got a hysteroscopy done yesterday. I have a fibroid and the dr saw a polyp during the vaginal ultrasound, which is why I needed this procedure. I was given a pill to relax, 2 pain medication and a pain shot before anything. I had local anesthesia in my cervix. That part was the most painful than the actual procedure. My dr explained what I was going to feel when I got the anesthesia, so it helped me prepare for the feeling. The procedure itself took about 10 minutes. She removed the polyp and cleared up some tissue around there. It feels like a long pap and at points it felt like pressure on my bladder. But it was not painful. So far I’ve only felt bloated, some cramps and pain when I move a certain way. I have light bleeding. But other than that, I feel good. And I hope this was the answer to my problems.

    I had my Hysteroscopy yesterday, I was under anaesthesia, so I didn't pain any pain at all. I felt fine after the procedure, no problem all, very little spotting, no pain at all maybe due to the prescribed Tylenol. Glad it was over, heaved a sigh of relief.

    With my "surprise" pregnancy I had a polyp on my cervix that caused me to bleed the entire time until I actually lost her at 21 weeks. They have no idea why my water broke but I always have this theory in the back of my mind that the polyp really made my tissue weak and vulnerable to harmful bacteria. I'm really happy that you were able to clear things out regardless of your next step. I'm pregnant again anxiously waiting for my rainbow but so much better knowing there isn't a polyp. Best of luck!

      ginahina - Oh my goodness!! I guess that's why my RE made me remove any suspected polyps! After my hysteroscopy, I wondered, "Will removing this stuff REALLY improve my fertility?" It didn't really seem like it would but after reading your comment... I'm starting to think otherwise. She did take some good-sized polyps in there so... i guess we'll see! And congrats on your pregnancy!! How exciting! Praying this will be your take home baby!!! Can you please keep me updated? Thanks!

    I lived unnecessarily with fibroids for 2 years. I bled so
    much from them I had to have 2 blood transfusions; one each year. I was so
    afraid of surgery. Male DR.'s were pushing hysterectomy. I found an OBGYN who
    said that was not necessary. I had a hysteroscopic myomectomy recently. 40
    minutes, general anesthesia, no pain, no discomfort and I went grocery shopping
    an hour after the procedure. I wasted 2 years living in fear of the unknown.

    • @onewomansjourney760
      @onewomansjourney760 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm also planning a myomectomy hysteroscopy. I've had several surgeries before but my concern is my uterus is retroverted which will make the procedure more challenging. I've been suffering from severely painful periods with many other symptoms for a long time. No one ever gave me the option for this until I found new gynecologist. I have fibroids in my cavity & other areas but hoping this will help with severe debilitating periods. I was told the uterus tries to expel the fibroids within the cavity.

    • @doctordarcy8385
      @doctordarcy8385 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That only works if you have fibroids within the uterine cavity itself, though. I had a fibroid that was the size of a cantaloupe, attached to my intestines for a blood supply. It took 2 oncologists to free it, over 6 hours. My fertility is now destroyed, as the surgical scarring closed my tubes off. Going in for a hysteroscopy tomorrow, because after I had an HSG done, my doctor said my uterus (inside, now) was completely distorted from either new fibroids, polyps, or possibly endometrial cancer. Good times.

    I had a in office hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy with no anesthesia or local. Hysteroscope gave me moderate cramping as it passed through my cervix for maybe 2 mins. No pain once it was in my uterus. The biopsy gave me really really bad cramping but that pain only lasted 5 seconds. Then no pain at all after. Whole procedure lasted less then 10 mins. In and out of office in less than an hour. Over all it was tolerable and totally worth skipping preadmission testing and the long crappy surgery center hassle. Dont be scare. It was ok.

Ultrasound is good but I'm not sure what's going to happen at my appointment. Ideally I don't want a general anaesthetic because I've been cramping for so long and don't want more pain! Just had it done this morning and without anesthetic. Everyone's different so if you feel you'd be comfortable with one..then ask for it. I wanted to see if I'd be ok without, and I've had period pains worse than that...so I was fine. The most uncomfortable thing is the speculum! And she put it in towards the end as she needed to get a sample out. I had saline water pumped instead of gas. I'd recommend the water as the gas for obvious reasons has you feeling bloated and gassy. After the procedure you can relax a bit and may feel some pain. I felt like I need to sit down. But to conclude the procedure looks scary but was finished quickly.

    Had one yesterday. No numbing meds. I took 800 ibuprofen before hand. Was not bad at all. Its unconfortable but bearable. Its like a very small endoscopy scope. I think the speculum is the worst part

    For me personally I just had a hysteroscopy with a myomectomy & an endometrial biopsy. The myomectomy was to remove 2 fibroids inside the uterine cavity. I've had severe period issues for several years now with severe pain & low quality of life during my periods, hard time functioning. I have 4 other fibroids intramurally & subserosal we're watching. I was given Misoprostol the night before surgery at bedtime (4 very small sublingual pills) which softens & dilates the cervix to avoid any complications dilating & opening the cervix during the procedure. To me this was the worst part. Affects of this medicine start about 45 minutes to one hour after consuming pills. I had 400 mg. total. Felt like I was going in labor after 1 hour. I wasn't able to sleep that night. You have to take pills night before surgery. I was under general anesthesia for this procedure. My surgery was 11:30 a.m, arrived 9:00 a.m. Everything went very well! Not in pain right now after about 14 hours post op, not much pain after waking up in hospital after surgery. I did NOT have any pain meds & have not taken any. I don't take narcotics opioids at all, never! Toridol is a great pain medication used in hospitals if needed. Quick relief & no side effects. I was able to eat light after surgery. No problems. Waiting on my pathology results. This was a positive experience. God is good! She discovered one of my inner cavity fibroids was a little larger than we thought. Size of a Walnut. This procedure cannot be done if fibroids are over a certain size. Next option would be a laparoscopic myomectomy which is a more invasive & takes longer with more recovery time, about 2 weeks. I encourage these options 1st before a hysterectomy. Don't have a hysterectomy unless neccessary. I was very nervous but so blessed everything has been very positive for me. The worst part now is waiting for the anesthesia to completely wear off & get out of my system. I still feel a little tired, groggy with a slight headache & tiny bit of unsteadiness when standing & walking. Thank The Lord no nausea or vomiting. I was also given tranexamic acid to help reduce clotting & flow which has worked great. I only had a few clots then very little spotting & bleeding. I did have a just a touch of mild cramping but that had subsided & it's only been about 14 hours post op. The surgeon also gave me a precervical block which is a local anesthetic injected into the areas around the cervix. This usually lasts about 2 hours then wears off. I was already asleep before she did this part. I clearly communicated with my anesthesiologist team as well so all 3 individuals were told the same thing & on the same page. Communication & asking lots of questions is key.

    I had a symptom which pointed to a possible uterine polyp (through my own research). I then looked up what the procedure was and to my horror, I came across a bunch of stories of women in extreme pain. I then started to look into alternative medicine because I didn't want to go through with this procedure without anesthesia or sedation. My research led me to acupuncture. They do more than treat pain. They can treat many things (but not everything) including infertility, fibroids, acne, and I've read reviews on yelp of people getting treated for cancer and bell's palsy.
    In the end, my doctor said my symptom was possibly caused by stress but I still want to help other women who may have to do this procedure and urge you to look into acupuncture and other kinds of alternative medicine and therapies before submitting yourself to this torture. If you do go an
    alternative path then I would suggest getting a second ultrasound after trying out the alternative therapy for some time (you may have to do a few months of acupuncture before going in for the second ultrasound. It takes time for the acupuncture to heal your body). Also, some
    insurance plans do cover acupuncture.

    Hey guys, I just found out today through my gynecologist that I have 2 endometrial polyps that need to be removed through hysteroscopy with resection of the polyps (this is in the Philippines). However, I am very conflicted as to what to decide because I live in NZ and they do MyoSure over there. I don't know which one is more effective in completely removing all the tissues. Any suggestions or similar experiences please let me know. Would appreciate your input. :)

    I was told i need a hystroscopy and d&c. I have fibroids or polyps. I just noticed on the screen that it said fibroids are harder to remove. I have no health insurance. Dr.last year said it was several fibroids the size of grapes and not to worry about it. But she was sending me to gynocologist for treatment. I wasnt able to go because i was denied while renewing my contract the financial assistance program that the hospital offers because my household income increased. I still ended up paying over $1000 to pay for the contract even though i was denied . I didnt qualify for insurance through the marketplace because income was low. I spoke to the doctor's nurse today about the ultrasound that was ordered last year. Nurse told me it was 7.7mm endometrial stripe,ovaries were measured i think right side was bigger and i have multiple fibroids.the dr.never mentioned any of that only the fibroids. Today i called gynocologist about ultrasound from last week. I wanted to know if these things were found on ultrasound. His nurse said I had thick linning on uterus,polyps then ,she said cyst then she said fibroids that theyre were several.
    gynocologist didnt mention that during consultation or yesterdsy during phone conversations conversation. I told her that gynocologist said it was one polyp or fibroid and he didnt know if it was causing the bleeding. She told me id have to talk to him. He called and i missed the call i wasnt able to answer. It was 1.5 cm. He told me i didnt need a biopsy,unless i wanted one. He said i didnt need a thyroid test because im uninsured and dont seem to have sypmtoms . I now feel uncomfortable talking to him since he was rude to me during phone conversation. Ive never had surgery. Im still bleeding and i was placed on birth control to help bleeding and now he said it wont stop it and it will keep bleeding till he removes whats there.
