Artie's a genuinely good guy who lost his way for awhile. Broke my heart to him struggling the way he did. I hope he's doing better now.

Great reminder of how hilarious Don Rickles was. I was rolling with laughter at these off the cuff insults of Artie Lang. I wouldn’t have been able to keep a straight face either.
Arties one of the best to ever do it. Kept the ball rolling the entire segment. A very commanding story teller as well.

“The man grabbed his chest” is a top five Rickles joke and it’s that funny second hand
Supremely funny line. Kinda easy to spot the people with a good sense of humor on that one, notice how loud Dave is and how relatively quiet the audience is in comparison, a lot of them didn't quite get it.
I just got his book as a Christmas gift and can’t wait to read it! Don Rickles was truly a legend!

Generally speaking genuine people don't fabricate huge parts of their lives and pathologically lie to their friends, family and work colleagues...

I don't know who said it, and I think it's a fairly famous quote, but one of the greatest lines that I ever heard was "Don Rickles was so funny that he spent his life insulting mobsters to their faces and he died of old age"
Don Rickles was so funny that even a simple re-telling of his jokes is enough to crack anyone up. You will notice Artie didn't actually have any jokes himself.
I was thinking the same thing, but in fairness, if you meet the King, have Weird Al parody your song, or get roasted by Rickles, it's one of the big events in your life no matter who you are. Even if you are the King, getting roasted by Rickles.
Don Rickles is one of the funniest human beings to ever exist.

Dirty Work is a great movie and Artie's great in it and he was great in Billy Madison

One of thee funniest scenes I've ever seen.
This has to be an intentional head fake. The posting of this video started as a conversation about the least surprising people that could die. I had no doubt, before I clicked on it I said "Aw, Artie finally died."

My guess is. Rickles had to be told who Artie was.

Rickles was the only guy in the world that can openly insult Frank Sinatra without being wacked....They were absolute best friends and Sinatra would kill for the guy.....Also, unlike the comedians of today, Rickles was the only person who would insult you and you'd know it was a big deal and compliment and at the end of the day you'd know that Rickles did it with love!

Perhaps the greatest mistake/injustice to Don Rickle's career happened when people tried to script him. Rickles just wasn't that funny when people did that. One would think over time they would get a clue and just let him be himself.
I used to think Gilbert Gottfried's impression of him was just a bunch of hilarious nonsense, but when you listen to him by himself for a period of time you can really see where it came from.
In this particular case, checking to see if the subject of the video had died was HIGHLY warranted.
Hope Artie is okay. Not the biggest fan of his, but he’s been through the wringer.

artie can be super funny. go watch his drunk/high appearance on Conan's old NBC late show. or his appearance w Norm on Sam Simon's poker show. or the radio appearance where him and Norm talk about his rejected Mad TV sketch idea, Good Will Smith, where it's Good Will Hunting starring Will Smith and it's at an HBCU and the equation he solves is like 3+4=?.
Artie is the Keith Richards of comedy. Most of his pals and contemporaries have gone and he's still standing.
I enjoy seeing Dave not have to work so hard and let someone hilarious tell a story.

@@normie2716 it’s a matter of taste. Howard was definitely at the peak of his own powers in the 90s…that’s when he had the most listeners, 2 #1 bestselling books, his movie & the E! show all at once. The only major accomplishment Howard had after 1997 was the Sirius contract, & that’s about money & not really a traditional “accomplishment”.
1990s there were no segment producers like KC, Will & Jason…Howard, Jackie & Fred did all the show prep & Howard’s 24/7 life obsession was the show. Post divorce & therapy era was more about Howard checking that obsession & enjoying his free time & letting others do the show prep. His new obsession became Beth & the show quality took a backseat.
Artie did do a lot of heavy lifting to help make Howard’s life easier & that’s why he refused to let Artie leave until Artie did the unthinkable.
Artie will outlive all of us.
Jimmy Carter will outlive Artie and everyone else.
Artie was always a really good guest on talk shows. He reminds you of the old Carson guests telling funny stories.

He has a podcast and a really good one at that. But he took a break several months back. He hasn't returned yet. Hopefully, he'll be back soon.

Even if 2% of Artie stories are true, he has had a great life. The cost of many of those experiences few are willing to pay for. Other experiences he has had you don't want them happening to you. Time passes, and friends grow apart. Only the memories remain the same. (Insert expletive here) the Pelican Man's bout with menopause.
I've heard Norm till the story many times it was great to see another perspective.

For anyone not in the know, Artie was apart of the original cast of MadTV and was an employee of the Howard Stern show. Very prolific career beyond Dirty Work where costarred with Norm MacDonald and was directed by TV’s Bob Saget who hosted Americas Funniest Home Videos which was basically TH-cam before people had the internet.
He was also in Norm's sitcom and was quite good in it.
