- MSC's Ocean Cay is closing from April 7 - May 22 for major additions to the already incredible private island. We introduce the brand new planned facilities and amenities, as well as the renovations coming to Ocean Cay... maybe even a rumor or two!

Just paid our full fare for our 7 day Western out of Port Canaveral, we continue to due this itinerary due to its overnight stay at Ocean Cay which is nearly 2 full days on the island! My favorite OC tidbit is that there are two resident nurse sharks named Salt and Pepper who live within the confines of the sea fence, I was fortunate enough to see one of them up close within the lagoon when one of the swam over the top of me while I was snorkeling in the lagoon.
We didn’t know about the sharks! We’ve heard that there are a few that frequent the waters, and have always wanted to see them, but haven’t yet. On the lookout!👀
@@Taste-Try-Travel just two, they are nurse sharks and totally harmless to us cruisers but they are a vital part of restoring the eco system that surrounds Ocean Cay. I love that MSC went in a different direction than the other major players in the industry when it comes to how they approach the experience had on their private island.
We are leaving on msc seashore on the 26th, cannot wait to see the new changes. We love Ocean Cay, and would love it if they offered overnight camping on the island We just finished watching Building Paradise Island, amazing work they have done with this island, they should show this documentary on all their TVs

Happy dance, another TTT blog. I love Ocean Cay, it is so darn calming and soothing. I am happy MSC took the path of improving the industrial waste dump and making it a Nature Reserve. The time, cost, and effort to ship in all those palm trees, natural plants, coral, and building supplies was a enormous commitment with no guarantees of success. They made it a new experience every time you go there as the plants, trees, and ocean grow and evolve every time. A mostly natural island versus an amusement park island, easy choice for me. The MSC Fondation is also a 👍 for MSC.

We got off the seashore a couple weeks ago! We were supposed to stay mon to tues overnight at ocean cay. Unfortunately, due to weather we ended up at Nassau on Monday. But were still able to make it there Tuesday for a large part of the day. It was fabulous. I wish so much we had gotten out two days there and the night portion. But it wasn't to be. Thats ok weather can't be helped. Beautiful island. We enjoyed bimini Beach most of the day. Very peaceful and serene. I will go back!
Sorry you missed that overnight stay… just gives you another reason to get back to Ocean Cay!🤪😊🤪

Love this review. Excited for the updates, excited msc adding second ship to be based out of port canaveral. I only cruise when i can get overnight stay here. Snorkel is great by all the rocks. I have seen so many fish, hundreds of live conch at one time, and that turtle that digs under the fence and swims by the lighthouse beach. Completely agree on the paths and the pedestrians. Need to build designated cart path only. Also my fav place on the planet.
Headed back sunday and light up paddle boarding is on the menu.

Just got back from Ocean Cay. They are building a new buffet, cleaning up the sand on the yacht club beach and extending the pier to hold larger vessels. They also say they are extending the marine research area and housing.
We saw the completed buffet building but none of the surrounding concrete or shade structures so I’m thinking that will be completed with everything else. Looking forward to being there in June
I hope they don't put another dock for two ships at one time. I honestly think it would be miserable with two ships, I was there on the Seashore and it was packed out with that one ship and they do need another buffet because as soon it opens you end up waiting around 30-45 minutes to get through and get your food. I thought it would be cool if they added an area for like glamping tents or an area they could charge you to spend the night out underneath the stars.
Spending the night on the island would be great! We’d be signed-up for that experience in a heartbeat!
I think they plan to eventually. But it won't be that there's 2 in everytime
Overall, very good. But I recommend having some b-roll of the island while you are talking.

Thinking of going in June and its overnight. Really interested in ocean cay. Never been on MSC and a little nervous to book. Was look at another cruise that has Bimini and key west . One day we are going and next day the other cruise. But you guys are helping us decide to go on MSC.

@@Taste-Try-Travel we have to look into that. We were looking at Magnifica 4day out of Miami. We have family in Kingsland Ga. We would drive from Delaware to Georgia on Saturday and leave on Monday to drive to Miami and at the end of cruise stop and see then for a day or two on the way back. but going the Seashore out of Port Canaveral would be easier and a 7 day. We are NCl Platinum cruisers with a few Carnival cruises under our belt. MSC prices are really good too. Which helps.
@@greggriffin3391 Magnifica is a great little ship but Miami 🤯🤯 is tough sometimes. You can status match your NCL to MSC which is great too. Have fun planning 😊
@@Taste-Try-Travel thank you for the tip we just did the match. I have been listening to you podcast very informative. If we weren’t go to see family in Georgia we would go out New York. Very experienced with New York we always take the train to and from very reasonable. I have been back and forth with what cruise to go on Celebrity Reflection or MSC more I listen to your podcasts I am wanting to go on MSC know. On NCL Epic last year heard all kinds of bad and good things. It was actually one of our best cruises ever and loved the ship.
Went to Ocean Cay in December. The Island... Gorgeous... The Staff, semi-helpful but few speak English so it took us like 30 minutes to find a bandaid.
Oh yeah, I could see that being difficult. Sorry it took that long but we do agree… gorgeous 😊
Volume is hugely improved! However, I know this is a podcast... your TH-cam viewers would appreciate visuals for the island. We know you have the content ;)
Thanks for the feedback! The balance is tricky… as you said, for a podcast, we fall back on “explain it” being better. Of course, we will always have our regular videos to “show it”… 😊🤪😊

I heard they're making the buffet bigger. They need to now because I think they plan to have times when they'll be 2 ships in at once.
Also heard that they're gonna clean more coral reef and make the sand finer in certain beach areas .🎉

I hope they don’t bring 2 ships in at once. I feel like MSC has the best private island and a lot of it has to do with how uncrowded and relaxed it feels.I mean, I would still go there buhhht… 😅
I hope they keep to the natural preserve concept in phase 2. I would be so disappointed if they decided to start installing water slides and pools and stuff like at Coco Cay.
Makes me also wonder what they'll do to the Seakers Family Cove, which is currently unusable due to the bottom being carpeted with "upside-down jellyfish" (Cassiopea genus).
(I learned so much watching the documentary on Ocean Cay *and* from Nikki, the fabulous guide for the lighthouse tour!!!! 😊)
Ah! The inlet you speak of around 30 min is the family cove I mentioned, I think. Right behind the employee homes

we have world america booked for oct 2025. I would hate 2 ships at the same time. we were there back in December on the seashore and yacht club was at full capacity and the ocean cay area was so packed we ended up heading back to the ship at 1pm. Getting food took forever. They ran out of certain food stuff they were not prepared for that many people can't imagine doubling the capacity .
The lagoon at Ocean Cay has jellyfish. I got stung several times.
Yikes so sorry to hear that. Maybe putty up a net will help with that. We will check it out in June.
I love love love ocean cay... Glad to hear about the buffet addition as it will help with the current wait and lines at lunch time. I was hoping the upgrade would include some stuff for the little ones that the island does need - something small but tasteful... I'm saddened to hear that the amount of housing will about double as this likely means they'll be expecting more guests at one time. I truly hope they don't add the ability to dock a second ship as this will take away from the amazingly chill, uncrowded, paradise vibe that is currently there. I know at the end of the day, it's about the dollar and how much of it they can pull in but I've never been to a private island that docks 2 ships, that didn't feel crowded. I truly hope they don't do it. Even though so many things on msc are hit or miss, ocean cay always tipped the scales for me. Hope that part doesn't change.
Ocean Cay really is a crown jewel in MSC’s cap… just an amazing tropical experience! As those ships get bigger, they will have to add more crew, but we’re hoping that the vibe doesn’t change (and don’t think it will)😊😎😊
They could improve their shopping village, plus the prices in their stores are very expensive
I’m not a big shopper so didn’t notice the prices. It is a bit limited as far as shops so I can understand. Maybe more shops will be added with local wares.
Our butler said they were going to expand the yacht club restaurant.

We heard that too. Maybe they can get that done in 6 weeks, but it seems they may need more time for that.
