Sanitaires here in the USA were made by Eureka at one point. They are now made by Electrolux. I own a few Sanitaires myself. You scored big. I'm a big fan of your channel.

Roger! Welcome to the wonderful world of Eureka Williams vacuum cleaners! Sweden’s Electrolux bought Eureka in 1974 and for the next 20 years mixed and matched and imported and exported vacuums from Europe and North America. This upright’s design (regular width version) made it’s debut way back in the late 1960’s and has survived to this very day. The Dial-a-Nap debuted in the early 1970’s. And the brush roll you have there is Eureka’s famous Vibra-Groomer II with replaceable brush strips. Eureka was recently sold to a Chinese company, but Electrolux has kept the Sanitaire division....which has a lot of the tried and true classic Eureka designs. You should order a top-fill ST Dust Bag kit from Sanitaire - much easier disposal of dirt. These Eureka uprights will outclean any other upright on the planet! (NB: The cord hooks should have slots to anchor one stretch of cord up the side of the handle - see the assembly instructions). “EUREKA. The very best in vacuum cleaners.”

I would love a bag conversion kit for this, but I can't find one in the UK. I did use the slots for the cable when I assembled the cleaner properly. It is back in its box for now until I can get some more belts.

ibaisaic Are you able to afford ordering directly from the USA or Canada? My favourite Canadian vacuum supply shop is McHardy Vacuum in London (Ontario, that is!). If you write them directly, they could easily sell you all the Sanitaire supplies you need for your Wide Track....including the ST bag conversion kit. Would be best to email them a photo of the area where the bag connects to the cleaner just to be sure they sell you a compatible replacement with top fill design. Enjoy your new toy!

I really do like these traditional Hoover Senior style vacuum cleaners. If anything actually tempts me to start collecting, it will be this type of machine. It is nice to see this vacuum in totally unused condition. I think this machine will cope well with the bag of filth, can't wait to see the video.

Wow nice cleaner you got there. It really lifts the pile, could even see slightly on the short pile carpet. Can't wait for the bag of filth mess test and when it put against the Nilco.

I know you brits aren't familiar with Electrolux, but here in the USA, Electrolux always had those unique powerful, but softly-toned motors that didn't make you deaf. I don't know how they did it, but they all have that unique smooth whirring sound.

    • @ibaisaic

Love your new machine. Here is a little Eureka history for you. The Dial-A-Nap was developed here by Eureka in 1969, as the lower end option to the Rugualator. Which was a slide lever adjustment that allowed in between Coustom adjustment. Instead of 6 settings only. Here in the US, the Widtrack design was created in 1978. Not only for the commercial market, but also for the home too. Mainly to compete with the wide Kirby. But of coarse even in America, it just didn't do well beacuse it was inconvenient around furinture and chair legs. Your machines has not only a Vibra-Groomer..But a Vibra-Groomer II. The Vibra-Groomer I was a tottally diffrent shape (look at the Eureka Vanguard commercial on my channel for that). The Vibra-Groomer II came out in 1978.

I remember when I worked for Holiday Inn hotels in Bristol in the 1980's, all the chambermaids used these and we used to clean up the ballroom with this vacuum or several of them. It was a beast and used to suck up almost anything. We weren't very kind to it; broken glass, food I even remember sucking up small coins with it. They seemed completely indestructible.

I'm not sure how that plastic fan will survive a lot of hard or sharp objects passing through it, but perhaps the older versions had a metal fan.

I had a different story with a Hoover I borrowed that belongs to my church, the only same thing that happened was that the belt snapped. So what happened was that, I was vacuuming at the church with the Hoover, and I didn't have the setting on it's right setting, so what I had to do to pick up the dirt was lean the vacuum downwards to pick it up, I was was doing okay until I heard a sudden snap. I thought what happened was, the brush roll had broken. But one day during church, I took a look at the vacuum to see what happened and I found out the belt snapped. By the way, the Hoover vacuum that I accidentally broke was a 1970's Hoover Custom Convertible Model U4121. But it will get a new belt soon, and once it happens, that bad boy is back in business again.

If it came available with the F&G bags, you can convert it to the synthetic ST bags with a kit. We have a Sanitaire SC889A and I like the larger F&G bag to hold even these ST bags.

No Clarke in the USA that I'm aware of but that definitely resembles the sanitaire. I had an old sanitaire once and just couldn't break it. I replaced the power cord a couple times but other than that it was a tough machine. When we finally tossed it the vac was still in working order, albeit tired.

We have Clark in the US. You often see them in hospitality where the machines are owned by the institution as opposed to the cleaning service.

Cool, I've yet to run across one. Most everything I've used or seen is sanitaire, royal, Hoover, simplicity, Kirby, oreck, then Bissell for extractors as far as common "commercial" cleaners. I've run into a few others but the Clarke is something I'll have to keep an eye out for. Maybe I've just never noticed!

That vacuum purrs like a kitten. And yes they did have Sanitaire by Eureka but it is Sanitaire by Electrolux now. I used to have A Sanitaire S661 by Eureka with a 7 Amp (840 Watt) motor it sucked up the dirt out of the carpet like no other vacuum could but that was A long time Ago.

I know it’s a Sanitaire vacuum branded by Electrolux and made by Eureka. The one we use is several years old and has the chrome top. It still works very well, but we need to replace the belt every few months from how frequently we use it. It’s agitation is very VERY aggressive.

I don't think that it will handle as deep a big mess test as the Nilco did. I was not only surprised that the Nilco did it but also that you didn't ruin your house. If you attempt it be sure to have plenty of extra belts around.

    • @ibaisaic

This appears very similar to the Sanitaire SC899, which is still in production. This man uses one in his carpet cleaning business: th-cam.com/users/joerwheelervideo
I suspect the Widetrack and the SC899 are both descended from the Eureka 1400 series.

Says it's been tested on the plug BUT as the plug is un-sleeved it can't actually be sold with one fitted. So whoever tested it needs more training and should have changed the plug.
And being an Electrolux it's a "suction cleaner" not "vacuum cleaner" due to the fact that Vacuum cleaners don't create a vacuum and so they believe they should no be marketed as such.
