There was a company named Royal who built a commercial vacuum similar to the Kirby vacuums in that they were all steel construction and had a similar look. You should try to get your hands on one of those and give it a go. See what you think of it. The school I attended used them religiously and I always admired their bare bones look and simple construction.
Great 👍 video I just used mine to vacuum the the mattress while the rest of the bedding is being washed & dryed and also ordered the rug plat gasket for all three of my Kirby’s since their falling apart.
The Tradition was the first Kirby to feature the disposable bag system. They have made many improvements in airflow since then. You can upgrade it to the Heritage/Legend style fill tube and adapter, so it will use the HEPA bags. The airflow and filtration will improve tremendously.
I've only had to replace my Kirby's brushroll every fifteen years. When it was thirty years old I upgraded to the brushroll from the Legend II which has two rows of bristles. At thirty it became twice the rug cleaner that it was when it was new in 1973.
Roger. You really ought to store your Kirby with the belt engaged. The disengagement of the belt. Stretches it quite far. The Kirby instruction videos all recommend the belt to be engaged in storage. I am so sorry to rant Roger. 😂 Love your videos.
Think it could benefit from the adjustment, the brushes seem to not stick out as much as they should, when properly adjusted the brushes should scrape against a piece of paper when it is ran across the cleaning head, at least that's how it is for most cleaners.
Run it over NOT turning it on lol but use a credit card for two credit cards wirth of bursh length sorry no thickness i mean should stick out with it in the holder fully put back together fir it to touch the carpet with about two credit cards thicknes of two credit cards then run the dards along all the way across to test for even wear
Bruce Solomon Royal is a very nice machine, though I'm slightly partial to the Kirby in carpeted situations. Maybe it's just a nostalgia thing that I'd go with the Kirby.
For Roger (ibaisaic): Some did exist in the UK but I know what you mean. If you look for one, it is preferred you find one whose nameplate says 220-250 volts. These versions do exist in your country, but they are sadly very rare.
@@ibaisaic what's funny is we daily use the machine in this video. its a pretty stout vacuum and using the two brush roll does make it that much better
I do like the color and style of this Kirby but it doesn't seem to clean as well as my diamond edition either. And the Tech Drive makes pushing it very easy. I would like one of the new Kirbys but will never pay full price for one. Lucky you can get them second hand for pennies on the dollar.
Much of the reason for the difference in performance is due to the single row brushroll. I replaced mine with the two row brushroll that came with the Heritage II. It was a great boost at thirty years that improved the machine remarkably.
Pennies? I just picked one up yesterday for five dollars. Came with 18 bags. All I had to do was change the belt. I don't think the guy knew what he had.
The Kirby Tradition is the vacuum I grew up with. My parents had bought it new, and I learned to vacuum the house with it. I would love to find a new in box, mint condition Kirby Tradition with full kit one day (these are rarer than hen's teeth).
I’m pretty certain the bumper is what has been vibrating or rattling around. It’s probably become looser of the years and if not stretched properly around largest parts of the nozzle it can make the sound. My heritage II did the same thing. So I actually took a couple pieces of thin felt and placed them between the front of the bumper and the metal nozzle. Voila problems solved :)
Yes it was Moses whom God allowed to part the red Sea so that his people that he freed from my pharaoh, could get away from pharaoh & his army after pharaoh changed his mind and wanted them to return to Egypt.
You actually don't need to replace the brush roll if you really don't want to I know you already have but you can take the original brush roll apart I can put a link to a video I will I could make if you wouldn't mind I need to get the video up anyway
@@ibaisaic No, but who is lol?! Im the Funtime friend from the spooky robot game. Haha. You make very good videos btw :D Im jealous cause we don't have henrys in the US like the UK dose, The US haves sharks every were like how the UK has henrys every where ;-; Henrys are cute. :3
Funtime Freddy was a doll that came with its own shower. He featured in an episode of Are You Being Served called A Change Is As Good As A Rest when the whole department was moved to toys for a week. I believe you can get Henry cleaners in the USA. it, but they are probably a lot more expensive.
ibaisaic you can but it’s hard, there expensive and you can’t get as many versions, like the Uk has like 12 Henry or hetty versions lol, there’s only 2 in the US 😭and there both like 500 and up dollars which is 400 Uk pounds! And there only in commercial use so the cords are bright yellow. I hope your doing well during the out break of that one virus. Stay safe!
Okay, before he puts in the roller, I'm going to guess that the noise does indeed go away, because a brush roller bearing had partially failed. If it stays, it's going to be the rear bearing on the motor making noise only when the belt is putting directional pressure on the motor shaft. Okay, watched it now. For a nearly 40 year old machine with only two rows of bristles and really bad strips of shame, I'd say it did pretty good except for edge cleaning (something Kirby's power nozzle really never did great even today). It's clear watching this that the G series is a much better vacuum and a good demonstration that Kirby's have very steadily improved over the years.
The kirby - vacuum-cleaner is not good, there shit! Throw that away. I had it too and this had very smoke of the end. That’s right. People, buy never a kirby-vacuumcleaner! The Motor is shit of this.
Just picked up one of these for my channel. So excited to use it
Hi Roger enjoyed the video and the cameo appearance of the Christmas cushion in all its glory keep up the good work
Love this good vacuum cleaner

Royals uprights were made out of aluminum just like Kirby machines.

far out thats a nice tradition cool as, I love my legend two as well I refubished with my vacuum cleaner skills .

The difference is as great as you describe - it's noticeably better.
I've only had to replace my Kirby's brushroll every fifteen years. When it was thirty years old I upgraded to the brushroll from the Legend II which has two rows of bristles. At thirty it became twice the rug cleaner that it was when it was new in 1973.
They don't make them anymore, but I got a two row for my 519 a few years ago and it was quite an improvement removing embedded grit and animal hair.
I couldn't get over it.
Is it as thin or thiner than a cup pleat style? Coffee filter? In terms of the thickness or rigidity of the paper from the yellow vacuum bag era?
Roger. You really ought to store your Kirby with the belt engaged. The disengagement of the belt. Stretches it quite far. The Kirby instruction videos all recommend the belt to be engaged in storage.
I am so sorry to rant Roger. 😂 Love your videos.
I take the belts completely off my uprights, so there is no chance of them stretching.
I am casting you video from my phone 📱
its surprising how many viewers watch on a phone these days
I am having fun with my new Dual Sanitronic 80, I doubt I will modify the shakeout bag on it
I heard you can put led on them because I did to my grandmother model 62
Was this converted to use bags? looks like it still has the dirt cup cover on the bottom under the bag?
I’ve now tested my Kirby heritage 2 I got today and I’m very impressed ..........Kirby I take it all back.great machine
Really enjoyed this Roger mate
I just picked one of these up at the local tip
The Kirby is prettier that the Dyson though! Ha
well the dyson is aerodynamic lol

What if i told you i have a way older kirby
How old is it i have a classic 3 from 1979 love it
Hello,
Please, try a Rainbow. That would be a great video!
Thank you!
Cool... your Tradition is a 1981 model! Going by the serial number, it's one of the last ones made before the Heritage replaced it.
It's possible that you might also like a Royal metal upright.

We don't have them in the UK and they cost too much to import, not to mention the incompatible voltage that would require a transformer.
For Roger (ibaisaic): Some did exist in the UK but I know what you mean. If you look for one, it is preferred you find one whose nameplate says 220-250 volts. These versions do exist in your country, but they are sadly very rare.
Currently, what is your daily driver?
Dyson Light Ball, but that will change on January 1st.
@@ibaisaic what's funny is we daily use the machine in this video. its a pretty stout vacuum and using the two brush roll does make it that much better
The old silver painted brush rolls had no bearings.
They had sleeve bearings, and the end caps were not easily removable. The transparent plastic sleeves on both ends will also identify the older ones.

1979 or 1981 versions of the tradition?
If you had let me know, I could have flown the the UK and been your "American surprise in a box" or I could have sent myself UPS or FedEx.
You will have had to include lots of bubble wrap in the packaging so you didn't arrive with any of your parts broken.
